yeah even the best silica wicks are short-lived and off-putting. I used Gentleman's hash oil carts for a few months. Out of 9 individual carts I only got 5 that worked, and really only two that worked well. Those two were the two best disposable carts I ever used!! I couldn't deal with the poor Quality Control, though, especially when it comes to the mesh on the bottom around the coil. I gave up on them because of the massive amount of hash they wasted. It sucks because when you get a good one they are clogless, efficient and hit like a goddamn freight train and last me around 2 months at .5 g oil use per day, but few of the ones I bought were good.

Noticed that you have a GLV2, how do you like it?

I'm waiting patiently for ceramic or wickless, then I'll join the dabbler team.

Vaporbrothers introduced a sort of wickless heater for the Dabbler at Champs this week, dubbed "Ceramic Core Heater". It uses a ceramic rod in place of the glass fiber wick. Like the glass fiber wick heaters, there is still an inconel coil wrapped around the ceramic rod.

Unfortunately, the coil can still suffer the same amount of damage from improper use as the heaters with the glass fiber. This heater is for those that don't want a fiber wick.

Price and release date should be announced shortly.

Sorry about the blurry photo. And yes for those of you wondering, it is similar to the UP Tech K.I.S.S. cart heater. Although in a side by side comparison, the UP Tech ceramic rod looked yellow. That was the only noticeable difference other than the obvious thread and body size.

We were given a beta ceramic core heater by Vape Pen several months ago to test. So I can definitely say this was in the works before UP tech announced theirs. But which came first the chicken or the egg? I'll let you guys debate that, I'm staying out of any debates.

This is basically exactly what I'm after. Its really just the wicks that I don't trust in these vapes. Problem solved right here. Any idea what kind of ceramic it is? I know I'm splitting hairs I'm just curious. Any ceramic > fiberglass or silica.

Any ceramic > fiberglass or silica.

I understand this is the common opinion, but I just don't understand what the advantage of Aluminum Oxides (ceramic) have over Silicon Oxides (glass). Neither is toxic, or likely to slough off harmful dust AFAIK. There's certainly no concern with glass in the normal form.

In normal safety (medical) terms they're both benign materials in this application I think?

I understand that some makers have long used the silica wicks to slam their competition's products, I'd hate to think there's no better reason for fear them than marketing hype?

Anyone have any objective studies or reports on the topic? I couldn't find any.

Whatever core is used, I think there's a serious advantage to it being porous to hold the goods. Solid cores are used in Revolution/DART but are no use in retaining oils.

I'm open to trying ceramic cores, of course, I just don't see a big problem with current wicks.....unless your competitor is using them?

This has been on my mind, as well. Seems the EO would just drip right down the solid ceramic element, onto the base of the crucible... The ceramic element/coil needs to be at the very bottom of the crucible, maybe even embedded somehow. This would allow for more of the EO to be utilized. Airflow could be moved to accommodate the lower heating element. Just my hi flyin :2c:

The ceramic rod is porous.

Much like the ceramic screens for the Vaporbrothers EZ Change Whips and ceramic rod for the Dabbler heater, my personal preference is for their counter parts.

These ceramic parts were created for people that wanted certain elements eliminated from the air path or heater.

As for what type of ceramic, I'm not sure, maybe Linus can enlighten us.

Cleaning and maintaining the unit's integrity for longevity is the main advantage.
When the meniscus of your oils reduce time and time again, the skin that forms becomes scablike and requires actual "plucking" along with solvent cleaning. The needle can be dragged along the coils thread, as if it were in the thread of a screw...
but repeated instances of this deep cleaning "bites" away at the silica strands/rods.... and eventually your wick is pretty damaged.
Ceramic takes a lickin' -- and keeps on tickin'... and heat helps clean residues off of the ceramic!

i also do not see any problem with silica. However the KISS is apparently rebuildable, that is the only feature I would like to see in a new dabbler.

I think you mean the Hercules SR71 not the K.I.S.S. carts.

Rebuildability is an interesting point. If you look carefully you'll notice the heater coil is three pieces welded together. There's the heat producing part in the center (makes the coils) and non heat producing leads down through the base.

The KISS seems to be made the easier way, one continuous piece of NiChrome? This means battery robbing heat is being produced where we can't use it but it does make it cheaper and easier to make and makes owner rebuilds possible (even if not practical) I think?

Once again, we get useful choices in the market.....most cool.

Actually G posted a photo of a KISS cart pulled apart and made the link to rebuildable.

Thank you for pointing that out. I haven't had time this week to read through all the chatter on the various threads. BTW being an old prog fan I love your icon image.

Can you confirm the price for the VB2 ?

Starting price is $699. Let's save the VB2 chat for the VB2 thread. I will confirm the price in there.

Is the rod/coil of the ceramic rod any lower down in heater then the silica version? It looks a little lower in the picture... I would love that if so...

We will have to let Linus answer that one. I only have access to one of the beta heaters and the rod appears to be a bit higher than the rod in the photo I took above.

Here's a photo I took of the beta heater we have been testing. Obviously this was taken before we started testing it. :brow: The one at the show and pictured above came from the production batch.
