Vapor and your teeth

We all know smoking is bad for your teeth but how do vapors affect them? Any insight?

I can't say I have absolute proof, but my teeth are much whiter since I stopped combusting. I don't have a yellowish stain on my front teeth anymore. And, my dental hygienist no longer asks me if I smoke when I go in for cleanings. :2c:

Out to lunch
Smoke stains. Hard enough to get it off glass, and it seems to eat right into other materials. Vapor is cleanable.

Morning mom!

All i can say about vapour is that, when it is too hot i feel "something" in my front teeth. Much like that ice-cream cold pain, but way way way less in terms of pain. I don't think pain is the right word, it is just a feeling in my teeth, and i atribute it to the temperature, rather than the vapour in itself.

Unlike smoke, whom i know stained my teeth. I must add that, in fact, after kicking the smokes, my teeth are loosing some brown spots in the inside part of my front bottom teeth.

I thought that yellow staining on your teeth came from the nicotine in cigarettes.

In my case it wasn't actually spots.. it was like a brownish line across the perimeter of the teeth. Dunno if you get the picture, i can't explain it much better.

I have a friend who has a noticeable brown spot in one front tooth, but he is a joint smoker on top of being a cigarette smoker. He had it removed, and it appeared again.

I don't think vapour will have any kind of effect of teeth. What i report is a heightened sensitivity, but i believe i am prone to that. And i also think, aside from the known problems of using too much MJ (short memory, blablabla), the only problem comes mainly with the high temps of the vapour and a little bit from the unfiltered particles. And none of these affect the teeth.

I also noticed when I stopped combusting my teeth did gradually get whiter, some times when combusting I'd wake up in the morning with noticeable resin taste in my mouth.

I sometimes get the same feeling/sensations in my front teeth as well. I've noticed it at lower temps as well, but as you've stated it seems to mostly happen when I'm using high temps. I've always been a bit concerned when I get these sensations of my teeth. Glad to know I'm not the only person whe feels "something". Any one else ever experience this or have insight into what this "something" may be?

I am not sure on the vape thing but i keep my temps pretty low so never had the experience. In Chinese medicine the teeth/oral health is related to the lungs. This stuff we are putting in our lungs can possibly be to harsh on them (cough cough) and can encourage lazy behavior, that is also bad for lungs, which again will be bad on the teeth.

Solution!
Don't be lazy, exercise in some way. Stay active, cleaning, singing, working, loving, gg.

Oral hygiene is important, an important thing to note is that when your mouth is dry, fermentation occurs at a much faster rate. This fermentation is what produces acidic conditions which erode the enamel of your teeth.

Dry conditions also favor halitosis, so it is important to keep cottonmouth in check. And yes, vaporizing can still trigger massive cottonmouth.

Some people's teeth are more sensitive than others'. Sensodyne may help.

When I vape, I get dry mouth. When I get dry mouth, I want to use my special mouthwash I got (biotin?) But I brush my teeeth before I use it. I get dry mouth a bit from my pills, and use it more at night before sleeping, but now I vape, brush, swwish, and I'm good. Brushing my teeth a bit more helped make them a bit whiter. I'm sure stopping coffee helped a bunch, too.

I notice that when I go too long between cleanings by the dentist that my sensitivity to heat and cold increases. I have had luck with a 2 part, Zinc based, mouthwash called SmartMouth. Kills stuff for 12 hours so you can wake up without morning breath.

Hey I got the sensation thing on my teeth too. :/

At first I wondered if it was temperature dependent, or just the dryness... or if it was resin droplets depositing... but I don't know. It's clearly when I suck the vapor through some teeth that I can feel it. If I suck the stream towards my tongue or my throat it's ok.

Yesterday I got it on the front teeth as I wasn't careful, and I noticed that when I passed my finger on them, it would make the same noise/sensation as when you rub your finger on a just-cleaned glass (say just after you rinse the soap and it's perfectly clean...) hard to explain though...

I'll try to get a longer straw/wand for my vape and see if it changes anything...

Agreed! I think the biggest impact to teeth is from dry mouth. Good oral hygiene definitely a must.

In regards to the temperature sensations reported above, it's temperature change that you're noticing. If you want to lose it, drink something hot before vaping. The less of a difference between what you drink and the temp of the vapor from your session, the less you'll notice any feelings in the teeth. :D

This reminds me of a guy from the combustion days, who was trying to keep his smoking secret from his girlfriend. To prevent staining of his teeth, he would take a piece of tissue, punch a small hole in the middle, and put the whole thing over his mouth like a gasket. He swore by it, but it did nothing to cure the outrageous smell of his bong hits.

I don't want to bring up gross subjects, but have you seen a crackheads teeth?
It's not just nicotine that damages/discolors teeth,I think it's combustion/high heat/chemicals/dry mouth

Recent developments in my life have brought me to the same conclusion. I'm having orthodontic work done and one of the consequences is that I get to see that no matter how careful you are, so many things can discolour your teeth that the only defense is frequent oral hygiene—in my case that means mouthwash/flossing/brushing 4-5 times a day. :o

I never lie to my dentist or doctor, they need the straight facts to help you the most,If I did drugs or smoked or drank draino I would tell them just so they know what to expect or how to help.

Obviously I never drank draino or anything stupid like that, but you can understand what I'm saying right?
Besides how would it benefit them telling the police I used to combust a oz a week?
They could lose out on my twice a year teeth cleaning/checkup(not cheep)
