@M0J0 Maybe we can start seeing custom center pieces on your site that would be sweeeet...

I agree, more choices in the market is a good thing.

How about a partially done 'DIY' version? Drill the wood blank for all the holes, then supply the pins, screws and screen an a bag. Then we'd be able to shape, sand and finish our own custom stems........

Anybody with sandpaper and time could play, those allowed knives and other sharp things could also play.

@Nugg Now I understand. Yes, at the beginning I had only wooden mouthpieces before some people asked me for plastic ones. The middle section and the mouthpiece were always separate, though. That the middle section fit into a 14mm glass joint is a pure coincidence, I never thought about bubblers and other glass wear, really. Making middle sections with the right adaption for the glass parts could be worth thinking about as I learned from this forum about how many of you like to hook up vapman with some sort of water tools.:)

Also if it's not to much to ask?
Pic with custom stem in Vapman.
Oak is too hard. I can't get the top part around the hole as smooth as I would like. I wouldn't use oak again, but that's what I found at the local hardware store. :(
@Melting Pot, that's a good idea. I'll hit up @Ed's TnT and see if he's interested. I know he make a real nice one piece mouthpiece.

@OF, that DIY blank sounds interesting too. The hardest part is the middle air/draw shift and drilling and inserting the locking pins. PITA to get them straight.

Understood. That's where a single guy, using simple fixtures (perhaps as simple as a drill press and vice for small runs) lets one guy do the hard part quickly and accurately for us all.

I suspect this is exactly how VM makes his parts. If I was doing it I'd go for the through hole first. Then put the piece on a pin through the hole to support it and use a stop to drill the pin holes through in one shot. Then, on a different fixture or modifying the first, use a small pin 'feeling' for the hole you just did to hold the work at 90 degrees from those holes to drill the other two. A couple hours to do the setup, then you can do a run of say 100 pieces in an hour or two?

FWIW I kind of like Maple for such stuff, a 3 foot commercial dowel is under two bucks locally and would make a lot of MPs. You could even include a couple half sheets of differing grade sandpaper?

While the VM certainly won't milk my 187 like a Lotus w/ flowers only, I think what the VM does have over the Lotus is in the concentrate department. If I'm using concentrates I can milk my bubbler, but with flowers a light misting of that bigger style bubbler is all I get.

I would very much like to agree the vm is far better than the lotus for concentrates with the vm screens added. with all the flame powered portables i have, both of my vm's are used almost exclusively with bubble hash and shatter. best thing besides how well it works, is how easy it is to clean after

...But yeah, would need a jig, or a lot of luck, to get pins right with tight fitting screen.
René made a bunch of tools and jigs himself.

At 1:40 you can see a casing/jig for drilling all the holes... At 2:10 he is adding the air tubes to the bowl with another tool he had to make... At 3:40 you see the case/jig he uses to insert the locking pins...

This is awesome precision. Which is why we all stare at the vapman for a while in admiration at session's end.

And I just noticed for the first time - looking at the bowl's technical drawing, that the walls are tapered. Thicker at the bottom and thinner at the edge of the wok/bowl. That's smart.

after reading the recent comparisons between the lotus and the vapman, i'm even more glad, that i went with the vapman, when i couldn't decide between the two. especially coming from @natural farmer as avid lotus promoter. :)
@NorVape are you really loading 0,1g of import hash? i have a sneaking suspicion, this amount will knock me out like thor's hammer, but i'm ready to try it for the science. :)

You know what, I suspect my scale isn't accurate enough, so I'm thinking it might well be under 0.1 g

And of course I usually don't weigh every bowl, so I just assume it's that low... but I'm not adjusted to the fact that in the world of vapor it's often point double digits

I'm with you. This isn't science class. I drop some wax in and apply heat, partaking occasionally, and then stop when my wapor appears dead. I might be more scientific if I had more time but I'm just trying to get through the night. You, my friend, are the sensei of hash/concentrates.

I also don't know how long my Crafty takes to heat up. I know it's a valuable piece of information but I'm good just getting a good night's sleep. When it gets too long, I'll get pissed and deal with it. Until then, I'm good (and I'm not losing sleep over my Grasshopper!)

My deepest appreciation to all who participate in this forum. You can't put a value on the information gathered here.

Guys…? Until I find a suitable piece of bamboo for a long slim stem, would there be any health risks if I use the polystyrene barrel of a Bic Cristal pen?

It makes for a very nice tasting and cool vapor so far (have been using it for a couple of days now) and haven't noticed any signs of melting or any smell or anything suspicious… It also has a built in hole, the same size as in the middle section, that makes the hits even smoother!

Has a boiling point of 464 °F though some slight degradation may occur at temperatures lower than that. Cannabis has an ignition point of around 445 °F though, one can infer that the temperature drops to some degree (excuse the pun) between the actual vaporizing action and going up the wooden chamber to the tube. Apparently it is also "safe for use in foodservice products."

Boiling point means that fumes are only produced above this temperature or it is the point where it melts?

In the vapman I think the vapor reaching the mouthpiece could be lower than 130C since there are three holes providing air in the crucible and three similarly sized holes providing fresh air in the middle section. So the air that touches the mouthpiece would be the sum of the vaporizing temperature plus the ambient air temp divided by two to give us the average temp, right? By the time it reaches the tongue it should be even lower since it doesn't burn it, right? So it should be safe maybe...

That's not the boiling point, it's the melting point. Vapor (or 'fumes' if you will) can happen below that (many plastics 'smell', so vapor of some sort comes off at room temperature, more when heated).

Significantly to this application is the 'softening point', when it starts to get soft and mushy to use technical terms. In this case it's too low IMO, 100C:

IIRC Benzine is one of the decomposition products on heating, so if heating such a home made stem doesn't poison you first it'll probably bend? IMO a very poor choice of materials, best left to it's original purpose......

Acrylic is a traditional plastic tube to use for stems (like the original MFLB ones). Where on "planet earth" are you? Inside the US? If so, PM me and I'll mail you a piece of acrylic tube.

if you want to be completely on the safe side, you can try a glass drink straw. for example everstraw.de sells them in various styles. the diameter they offer is probably not exactly what the vapman needs, but they are familiar with making straight long slim glass tubes, so maybe if you ask them, they might produce a "custom straw" in the right size. or you can ask any other glass straw blower.

EDIT: just connected the mouthpiece of the gnome with an acrylic shortie from magic flight using a piece of silicone whip. now i have a 15cm glass mouthpiece. will report the results later.

Volute of Vapor
Really glad to get this magic vape in my arsenal!

Although I prefer it for concentrates...for me it's difficult to get a good heat control to vape flowers and most part of the time I get a first whispy hit and a 2nd monster hit and the bowl is done, withthe same load l can get 5-8 hits in my Lotus and a bit less with the VG.

Although I got more experience with VG and Lotus...I need to try again but in my mind it's more a big hitter than a sipper , especially with flowers or hash/kief, with shatter it works more on the tasty side than cloudy side (I love that!)

The heating station seems very nice although it's a bit expensive to replace a lighter!

Thanks guys… I should get back to my silicone tubing piece I guess before I find something more suitable.
@OF I live in Greece mate, thanks for the offer though! Magic Flight mouthpieces are a little short anyway, I need something the side of that Bic pen to feel more comfortable… And @axakal, I would rather avoid glass for durability reasons. Maybe Ed could make a custom wooden mouthpiece which is that long?

don't obsess with cleaning. :) the required level of maintenance is very low, some even never clean. in most cases o soft cloth is sufficient.

Hello everyone, I have a vm on order and I have a question regarding its maintenance : I'm quite partial to the use of white vinegar, can it be used for cleaning the vm (especially the middle section as a substitute for acetone) ?

Nice work. I like how it looks like the end of a cigar you would see in a cartoon. I always subconsciously wanted to take a puff off of one of those...

Some like it hot :cuss:made this last year my first mod with a needle @Mojo nice work with that a dowel is smart ( I was close to nicking a oak cupboard door handle once) it looks like a caramelo hash egg much.

What is that glass stem made from?? It looks kind of like a tiny liquor bottle. Awesome by the way. It's always cool to see a successful stem mod on a vapman.

I'm pretty sure it's a mini "Tabasco" bottle.

Good call on the Silicone IMO.

Too bad about the Greece part, although I'm sure you like it and all, but that means postage/hassles getting the tube to you would far exceed it's value. I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough. I buy that tube by the six foot 'stick' and was going to cut you a couple longer pieces if I could put them in an envelope and put a stamp on it. A couple years back I made and mailed well over 100 such custom length stems for MFLB owners by way of 4/20 celebration. I still have some of the tube handy.

You might also consider metal. Auto fuel lines are often the correct size and it's a standard size for copper tubing used in Refrigeration service.

Best wishes,

OF
