call me selfish, but no unexperienced user gets to use a torch with my vapman. it's my precious.

Definetly heat it up for them! Or close instructions. Second day my middlepiece and filter got the 'burned' smell cos of a friend when i wasn't watching for a minute. Luckily I ordered everything double or triple..

yeah i'm downright ocd possessive. my vapmans is/are like my toothbrush. or undergarments. you know? i still feel like i'm in for a new learning experience every time i go for a sesh. it's too much to explain for sharing i think. or i'm too lazy to teach. i always hand the zero learning curve vapes off to a guest.call me selfish, but no unexperienced user gets to use a torch with my vapman. it's my precious.

In the short time I've had my Vapman I haven't let anyone else heat it. I'm still learning the art myself.
I took my pear basic with me on a road trip this weekend. I take a small tin of ground herb, a lighter and the egg. So convenient and easy!
Here it is hanging out by the mighty Murray River in the driest state on the driest continent.

Yep, we tend to forget about that other continent. Although I get it's traditional to put the 'occupied' modifier on it to eliminate Antarctica, I recall reading a while back a fellow who pointed out with more than 3 dozen permanently manned, year round stations run by over a dozen countries we can't even really say it's uninhabited?
Still, Oz is the driest continent I've ever been to (not the driest place of course).......a very 'long time between drinks of water', giving yet more value to the beer?

I just want to thank @M0J0 for one of my most used tips. So many tips it is good to bring them up now and then.
Then I found that if I cup my hand around the Vapman, I get better vapor and it works like a throttle - the tighter the grip, the better the vapor cloud.This works great and I find myself doing it a bit most every sesh. Sometimes I use both hands like I'm trying to warm them on a cold day.

Thanks for posting this. @Mojo is yapping at me so often that I missed this somehow. He is a brilliant and committed vaper but hearing accolades from Steama somehow elevates the posting.

But yes. Since I started using that technique, there is definitely no need for toothpicks or gimmicks. It feels very easy and natural too.
But, I found this out more by chance than by smarts. I would hold it this way in case someone walked in the room while I was drawing on the Vapman and noticed the carb/throttling effect.
I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I'm pretty good at paying attention and noticing details, even when under certain effects... Oh, and I'm also luckier than most!

I did not intend to tease, these are just plain facts and informations about the heating station.
I can`t make a video about it now as we are still waiting for the circuit boards to arrive, it shouldn`t take that long from now. We could show how the prototype works but I want to show the final product in order not to confuse things as interent never forgets. Hey guys! So recently I noticed the center pin on the bowl has warn down, causing the mouthpiece to wobble around. Thus it doesn't form that great of a seal on the bowl. I've been vaping a lot of concentrates lately and thought maybe the higher heat may have contributed. I don't know though, anybody else have similar experiences?
I am aware that the stainless steel filter erodes the center pin eventually as copper is softer than steel. This is nothing new, the only question is, how long will it take or how many times does it has to be used for this to happen. From my own experience I can say that it takes quite a bit to erode this pin to the extend shown on these pictures. Then again, I have to admit that I am not 100% sure if there are some filters with very sharp edges enhancing this process. With this question in my head I just placed some filters under the microscope (50 times magnification) to find out.
Beforehand I have to explain that all the filters get a vibratory finishing after the punching and bending process in order to eliminate sharp edges. Looking at it through the microscope, it is hard to imagine that pins get worn that badly in such a short time as I could not really find any sharp edges.
Of course I did only check a hand full of randomly picked filters, it does not prove anything.
What could we do to rule out this to happen? A steel pin in the center of the bowl would solve this problem but it would make vapman more expensive. As this is not really a big issue, I like to avoid anything making vapman more costly in the production. Switzerland is already a very expensive place making it hard for us to compete as by far the most vaporizers are made in China.
May be extending the vibratory finishing process on the steel filters helps. I think this is what we will try first as it doesn`t add much to the costs of production.
In the mean time I advice not to apply unnecessary force causing more friction when locking the upper part on to the bowl. Especially locking and unlocking vapman just for fun to hear the clicking sound (as I do sometimes

I was very shocked to see that center nipple which used to be a pin, because as you all know by now, my original Vapman is at least 1.5 years old and the center pin looks fine. (I've posted many pics here).
In fact, I sent it to laser engrave recently, which I would not have done if I thought it didn't have a lot of live left in it.
I think this video says it well when it says that the Vapman is a precision instrument, like an expensive Race Bike. They are fast and tough but you still have to treat with with care and maintain them by cleaning and oiling them. If you just ride it and not maintain it, or drop it on the street at the end of each ride, it won't give you good service for long.
I'm not saying that Vapman was abused. I am saying that when you treat it a bit more carefully, like by cleaning the bowl right after each session, keep it clean, not forcing the mouthpiece, etc. It will give you better service for a longer period of time.
The Vapman is deceptive in many ways.
People think less of it because it's a wooden, jet-powered vape that seems simple.
It is simple, but there was a lot of experimentation, time and thought behind it to get to where it is now. (I'm going by what René has told us about the process of creating it).
It also looks like you can just throw it around and no harm would come to it, but this is not true.
Think of it as an expensive race bike and treat it that way, and it will last you many, many years.
Maybe the fact that the Vapman is very moderately priced compared to the electronic bells-and-whistles type of vapes is also deceptive and makes people think it's cheap. If you watch the making video you'll see all that goes into making one of these Functional Art Pieces...

You know, looking at those photos, I don't think any sort of burr can be at fault. A burr would, I think, attack the pin radially as the cap is screwed down. This looks more like polishing off the tip, complete with rounding, like a file or sandpaper might? My take is it came from a very large number of 'scrapes' inserting the pin tip into the hole. Like a one tooth file taking hundreds and hundreds of passes. I think most avoid this by putting very little pressure and 'feeling' for the hole by nature?
Perhaps a slight chamfer (or better still a radius) on the hole mouth could go a long way to eliminating the possibility?

Received my Vapman today, and I must say I am very happy with it! I'm actually surprised at how small it really is, no picture of it got me prepared for that. My Vapman is now my smallest vaporizer I own. It's a very simple design, and once you master the technique it's really nice to use, too.

Put the goodies on one screen, and Another screen on top. Use more screens if runny. If not full melt, scrape the residue of the screens, and do regular burn ofs of the screen.
Concentrates need more heat, and are in my experience harder on the Vapman than herb.
@Nugg 's technique for reheating while still drawing is especially nice with hash or oils, if you hook the Vapman up to glass.
