Are you going to use that reclaim ?
No. Just to get it out of mid-section.Are you going to use that reclaim ?
Phew, I feared that you were going to make a batch of that nasty stem milk that people talk about.No. Just to get it out of mid-section.
Also not so sure how safe to consume it - reclaim will get something from wood and from paper as well.
Phew, I feared that you were going to make a batch of that nasty stem milk that people talk about.
Always fun to read about your cleaning methods, I must say that you have some pretty creative ideas!
Hey guys how do I download a picture here? When I tap on a picture icon above my text all I get is a drop url here!?
Im on Android. Cheers.
Edit.....Cancel that. Being new I don't have that function enabled yet going by my searches.
How many posts or how long does it take for it to be enabled does anyone know?
Ok, thanks for the reply and info. This feature hasn't been active on this forum for... a very long time...
You must use a third-party site. Imgur or imgbb are popular around here.
Once your image is uploaded, copy the link and paste it into your post.
Good luck!
...love those photos and relics. Thanks for posting.Ok, thanks for the reply and info.
Ok. Got it. First thing I thought was what a timeless work of art this is.
So I took my pictures of it with some goldfields relics I have found during my relic hunting here in Oz. Talk about made to fit in. These are from the 1860s. Obviously these Vapmans will look as awesome in over a hundred yrs time as they do today.
I like it with the old clay pipes in the background. They were dug up on the actual gold diggings here.

How do you clean your āpanā?
Lots of suggestions in this thread ranging from mustard to bicarb soda, which is my preference.@0796 damn, your pan after 20 months looks newer than my pan after 2 monthsI need your secrets
How exactly do you do that with the mustard?Mustard))) 2 rounds, once in 4 months
@0796 is the mustard king around here. There is plenty of information available if you use the search function. How exactly do you do that with the mustard?
Cleaning with mustard powder.
1. Put gloves. Mustard eats skin.
2. Mix mustard powder with water - get something like toothpaste.
3. Apply on pan. Thin layer. Avoid to put inside of nozzles. (Itās very difficult to wash it. If you are not so accurate avoid this cleaning technique. Burning leftovers of mustard inside of nozzles - you donāt need it)
4. Wait 1 hour.
5. Wipe the mustard paste. (Nozzles!!!! Careful!!!)
6. Scratch the dirt with wooden something small and sharpened.
7. Wipe the leftovers with small wet cloth. (Around the nozzles!).
8. Repeat ā7ā until the pan completely clean from mustard paste. If you not so sure, that you completely cleaned the mustard - wipe with alcohol pad in the end - after - wipe alcohol with wet cloth - make one heating round without weed.
Done.
Whole cleaning process about 1.5 hour (1 hour of waiting).
Cleaning the filter - the same idea.
Scratching with wooden stick is essential. And it doesnāt scratch the pan.
Mustard powder made 100% of mustard seeds - the greenest cleaning solution.
If you have better way to clean - I will be happy to know - avoiding nozzles is pain in the ass.

I just re-checked about mustard, so basically made half-year cleaning routine.
So, the vapman 6 months after previous cleaning - around 500-600 bowls:

My regular dose covers this area:

So - teaspoon:

Fresh boiled water.

Mix

Apply. Avoid nozzles.

Put upside down (mustard will move from nozzles) and close with plastic.
![]()
Put fresh boiled water to cup and close it with other plastic, so steam will stay out of bowl with vapman.

This way it will heat mustard.
Wait around 1 hour.
And then clean off mustard and dirt with toothpick.

Clean with ear sticks and hot water. Remove all mustard.

While cleaning nozzles hold the vapman in way, that wet thread will not touch mica.
If you are suspicious, that mustard still on the pan - make a round with alcohol pad.
After alcohol better to wipe with water/cotton pad.

Half-year cleaning done.
Maybe a paste of a bicarb and mustard mix?I didn't like the mustard method for effectiveness tbh, I do need to try bicarb instead.
