As soon as I have time to sit down with the NO2, Im going to take it apart and see whats going on inside. Maybe at that point we can figure out where the smell/taste is coming from.

Lwien, I like the cynic in you. And after all, if there is any toxic byproducts in a vap the NO2 or any other Vap, I would want to know so it isn't harming anyone. There still is a faint taste of something along with the taste of the materials being vaped, and my "oven like or furnace like" smell that is coming from the heating element has nearly diminished. Since this is my first and only vape I feel I need to buy something else for comparison sake.

But, I have to say, whatever the mystery is my experience doesn't seem to be as bad as others. I attribute that to the fact that I don't know any better. It's like cars, you may like your Malibu, but you have never driven a Benz, and when you drive a Benz, you quickly see how the Benz is far superior. (Just an example, don't rip me for choices of cars). So, I want to try another vape so I can compare my experience. What do you recommend? keep in mind, I don't want a portable this time, and I would like something that is easy to use with another person, but not necessarily a group. Where do you recommend buying also?

Lastly I have questions about perfect vaping temp? Could someone direct me to the post(s) where there is a temp discussion. Currently I feel at about 382 F I get the best high, but maybe there is a better temp, and I am all for trying that.

Please help the rookie...

Regarding another vape, I don't think this is the thread to do it in because it could cause a serious derail, but check out the following threads and their associated links:

There are tons more. Just do a search with vape or vaporizer in the search box with topics highlighted.

I've spent a few hours with the N02, and I must say that this thing RIPS! I find 382 is the best temperature as well. it works best when plugged in, but does ok for about 35-40 mins unplugged. great on flavor and temperature consistancy.

if the iolite is the cellphone of vapes, then the N02 is like the cordless home phone vape.

posting from my cell. sorry for errors.

Edit: Max, I hope you don't think that I am continuing to bash this vape with my post above. That is not my intent. I'd just like to get to the bottom of this smell, taste issue if we can. I know that you believe that it is just a personal preference regarding a persons sensitivities to taste and smell, but it could be a more serious issue than that. Bad tastes and smells are red flags that really do need to be investigated, do they not? Is it really ok to state that the vape works well, and that we really shouldn't be concerned with these "potential" health issues as long as users can tolerate the taste and smell ?
I've stated before that we're going to assume name brand vapes to be safe until proven otherwise. At this point none have been proven unsafe. Unfortunately, there are no high tech testing facilities putting vapes through the wringer as a public service. There are also other vapes that you could claim are possibly introducing toxins into the vapor path, due to exposed electronics, including the very popular Arizer models. Are we even certain that exposed ceramic elements are 100% safe? The Volcano has been claimed by some to be unsafe because of the aluminum block it uses, and also claimed by others to be safer than other models, because of the same aluminum block. People come here, and to other forums, with varying degrees of knowledge concerning materials and temps. The Vapir Mini is also well known to have a taste/smell issue. I don't remember seeing numerous 'may be hazardous to your health' warnings posted on that one. And quite a few buyers of both the Mini and N02 have not even noticed a taste/smell issue.

If we allowed everyone to express their own particular opinion in this area, we'd have alarmist warning posts in nearly every vape specific thread on the forum at some point, including ones from people just trying to make trouble. I'm sure quite a few info seekers would quickly decide that it was simply safer to smoke, and give up on their vape shopping for good.

We should probably have a sticky thread concerning vape safety, pointing out what we do and don't know (mostly don't), with some helpful tips on how to identify what kind of vapor path various models have, and we'll look at doing so in the future. But in the vape specific threads, we're going to continue to assume each brand name vape to be safe, for purposes of discussion, as we've done in the past. And to further clarify 'name brand vapes', we don't consider cheap clones like Top Vapor, Noble Vapor, Vaporite, etc. to be name brands. They have no manufacturer warranty, or even a manufacturer that wants to be contacted, and in some cases they're the same exact unit, just with a different name on 'em. These models won't have a dedicated thread, but that doesn't mean we want to see warnings that they're toxic every time a new member appears to say how much they're enjoying their new vape. We'd like to steer everyone toward models that have a cleaner vapor path, but not in a way that says their new purchase will poison them.

Please give us a report back, Stu, regarding the taste. I'd really like to hear from just one member who has been here for awhile with more than 100 posts under their belt to report back that this vape doesn't have a noxious smell to it. .
Well there is this post:

Have not posted for a long time but thought I would throw my 2 bobs worth in about the No2 I've had it a few days now and it beats the iolite imo hands down. No hassle with butane the No2 holds charge and temp very well.
The taste is fantastic and I really don't have ANY complaints about the unit as whole whatsoever and I do own quite a few vapes whether they are portables or not.
So for me now it is the old faithful Herborizer at home and now No2 when I'm on the road (which is a lot) in place of the iolite or the VM3. All the best from DOWN UNDER guys.
Go you Dragons!

Id really love to have this vape, it looks like it's exactly what I've been looking for but the reports about the smell/taste is holding me back. Not the taste itself as im sure I'd hade alot worse before, but the possible health concerns. I really hope the device gets some more good reviews from long standing members.

Why do you haveto wait for it to heat up before putting in your herbs? Has anyone tried to skip that part?

Is there any other vapes similar to this one out there?

The MFLB wont work for me because of the cold issue, and I dont really like having to switch batteries either. I want something I can hide in a cup or something at the movies like this or the IO but I dont like the IO because of the butane and all the other issues of that device.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Man, I can't think of any other portables that would work for you. Outside of the No2, Iolite and LB, the rest are flame based.

Edit: And Max, thanks for the explanation.

I dont want to derail this thread, but @Zormac, the ioLite is a great vape as long as you dont use cheap butane in it and you're diligent about cleaning it. Ive only had sputtering issues with mine once and that was when I used cheap butane. Now I stick with the 5x filtered stuff and Ive had virtually no issues I didnt bring on myself. My biggest complaint with that unit is lack of temperature control but thats even not a deal breaker.

Far as the NO2, well, I cant believe that these units can be had without the smell/taste, I just think the people who are posting either are A) Shills or B) Dont know any better. I have a full arsenal of vapes, including a Volcano, SSV and an ioLite. The NO2 by FAR has the worst taste of all of them. Is it a deal breaker, well, kinda. Just depends on if the taste dissipates with more use. Ive only put like 4 bowls through it and it does seem to be getting a little better. I made the mistake of heat cycling it multiple times at 400F with a small amount of weed in it so mine tastes and smells like charred weed.. woohoo.. the fix

I will say that the adjustable temperature on the NO2 works much better at getting you vaked than the ioLite but thats a small benefit next to the taste issue.

Final thoughts.. I doubt Vapir as a company would knowingly put something out that was harmful. I suspect they probably know all about the smell, probably know whats causing it and just either A) Dont care or B) Cant fix it easily. If it was harmful, the liability they would be opening themselves up to is HUGE. Hopefully they have done their due dilligence.

What cold issue?

I've been informed that it still works in the cold, on ski slopes, chairlifts, etc. The batteries don't last AS long when they're cold, but it doesnt stop them from working.

I let some batteries get really cold and they wouldnt work at all , like deader then dead , I didnt try them after they got warm so ...

Sorry for the double post but the other one was a long time ago .

stonemonkey55 said he'd give it 2 thumbs up if not for the plastic taste (after two months). That's about as good as you're going to get from a member who has owned/used many different vapes. As for "possible health concerns", that question is going to go unanswered for quite some time I'm sure. So the verdict is that the vape works well, and some have no problem with the taste, while others do. I feel safe in saying the difference in opinion, taste wise, is due more to differences in taste buds than to variances from one unit to another.

So you're out of luck for now, as far as your ideal portable. There are only so many ways, with current tecnology, to power a small portable. For now, it's either dealing with batteries or butane.

And this is the N02 thread, so please take any more 'what vape to get?' questions or suggestions to Ask FC.

The taste/smell issue for me is pretty much non existent at this point. I used it a couple times a day, sometimes 1 bowl per time, sometimes more. My position that the faint smell I have is more of a heating up type of smell, which happens to many things like stoves, fireplaces, grills, furnaces etc. I don't see how that will completely go away, considering the temps we are working with.

Also, as far as taste goes, all I can say, is that whatever I am tasting, is way better than what I had been tasting when I was combusting.

I rarely rolled it due to the waste and the amount of smoke, so before vaping I never realized the different tastes from the different strands, like I do now. I tried combusting last night to reflect on the taste, and that now seems awful. I feel I need 2 vapes just in case the N02 breaks, so I don't have to use combustion again.

As far as the battery and the cold, I didn't have any problem with the battery not working in the cold (so far), but the heat up time was significantly longer for me when I left it overnight in the car when the outside temp was only around 30 degrees F. It took just over 2 minutes to heat to 382 degrees F. Opposed to just over a minute on battery when warm, or about 30 sec when plugged in.

I bought the car charger, $30 like the cost of a car charger for a iPhone. I believe on the side by the plug in, on the N02, it actually says 13v. I went out of town over Thanksgiving, and took the wife's car., so I forgot car charger (in my car) and home charger. So, I tried a universal charger, it gave me just enough juice to keep the battery from dying, but clearly wasn't recharging the unit. That charger only worked 12v.

I leave the avb in while it is warming up, and I dump it as it gets close to use temperature. I don't notice any issues doing that. Do other vapes recommend against putting bud in while heating or is it unique to the N02?

BTW; thanks for the links to other posts Lwien.

There are many other vapes that operate in the upper temp ranges where this is not an issue at all.

Just an update/advice. When/if you get it, do the burn in with the top off. I blew into the chamber pretty consistantly for the first 20 minutes. It lost that smell quickly. To tell you the truth, I would not even think about the smell if I had not read the bashing on this thread. My friend bought one and stated that he had no smell. Have not been over to his house yet, but will reposrt back. The only problem that I had with the unit occured 2 days ago when I put what I call "Smrgsbord" in it. Had a mix of 3 old strains and 2 premium strains. Tasted and smelled a little too sweet (if that makes sense) Sort of had the essense of rotting meat is the best way to describe it. The chamber still smelled like it after I dumped it and had to go through 2 premium bowls to mask the smell. Will combust Smrgsbord from now on. There are 4 small holes in the bottom of the chamber where the air is forced in so I will have to do some research on how to clean this without damaging the electronics. I do not warm it up before putting my product in it. Don't know what difference that would make, but I will try it. One of my best friends went to the ER yesterday and was put on bedrest for 3 days. The only things that she asked me for was Mountain Dew and "The Toy". She loves it. I can say that I like it, but I still enjoy combustion and have not totally made the lifechange. As far as taking it into the movies, I would just grab some duct tape and cover the display. Grab a smoke buddy filter system and you should be good to go if you don't go to a crowded show. That is what I am looking forward to. Maybe I am just ignorant in regards to vaping, but I am pleased. What, besides the 600 buck volcano, will give me a great home vaping experience. I feel from everybodys talk about clean vaping that I might be missing something. Had bought a cheap $39.99 ebay box vape that I was not pleased with and know I might be missing something. Thought I have had a good experience with the NO2 until others said that it is not a clean taste. I do like that the buzz seems to last longer than combustion and it seems that I can easily get up and move around more rather than being a couch potato. Thanks for the temperature posts. Are you supposed to gradually increase temperature or should you just start off on 382? The whole process from start to finish is what I am confused about.

I'd say roughly about 10 to 15 other vapes that would be able to accomplish that without having to spend 600 bucks on a 'Cano and they can do that without any unwanted taste and smells.

Lots and LOTS of viable alternatives out there.

I looked up 10 to 15 other vapes but could not find that model. I might have phrased my thoughts incorrectly. I don't want to put more into equipment than I have in medicine. Already spent 140 this month on the NO2. If I wanted to spend around 100 Bucks, which Make and Model would you suggest buying so that I would get a good home experience? What is a good cornerstone vape? What would some suggest so I can finally taste this miracle clean taste which has been argued for 17 pages of this discussion right? If you feel that us Newbies are just ignorant little lighter lovers who wouldn't know a clean vapor hit if it was blown in our faces, then help us (ME). If you were going to have one 100 buck vape on a desert island, which one would you want?

mod note: Do some reading on the forum please. This is not the place to ask which vape you should buy.

No man your right its the cano or no2  . I have read alot of the pages here and in them hundred and hundreds of pages I just cant find any other home vape but the cano . Sorry Im out of this untill I have the vape in my hands to have something to say about .

Bogey this forum is FULL of non cano home vapes and I think the most expensive one is under $400 , if your not looking for a bag blower check out the Da Buddha Vaporizer , under $200 and will knock your socks off , Im not going to plug up this thread with other vape stuff but man you got some serious options .

Edit : For the $100 , I would get a Magic Flight Lunchbox , and its the only thing I been using as my home vape , I have a bunch of options but find the LB in hands all the time .

Right, so I emailed Vapir and got a very prompt reply and suggestion to pry off the battery cover with a letter opener. I appreciated this because I eventually knifed the thing free, and if I had damaged it I think I could have made the case that I was just following directions.

Anyway -- the unit did not respond too smoothly at first. The green light wouldn't come on to indicate the heat was working, and the temperature settings wouldn't ... set.

But eventually it fired up. I'm almost a complete newbie with vapes, so I'm hardly one to give a review here, but I can say for sure that there was no strange taste as has been described in this thread. The taste was sweet and the buzz was immediate and long-lasting. (Shared a single bowl -- actually 3/4ths of a bowl with a friend and was completely satisfied with the results.)

I ended up giving the unit to my friend for Hanukkah (she recently quit smoking cigs and combusting herb, so she was very appreciative), and I'll get another vape for myself. I'm satisfied with the NO2, but I'll likely try something else comparably priced, just for the hell of it. I shall nose around the forum for tips...

I got some pictures coming of the insides of the no2 . Ill edit and add more

This one , I had a hard time with being that close to get the details . You can see I started to remove one layer , the burn mark is from me heat testing with a lighter . There was also some layers of orange tape stuff holding everything together .

So any determination on where the smell is coming from? Perhaps the material insulating the bow?

How difficult was the unit to get apart and were you able to reassemble it? Ill source another kind of insulating material if thats what it is. Ive worked with high temp stuff before.

PoopMachine,

I wouldnt tell any one take it apart , Im sure it voids the warranty .

The body has 4 screw , the heater has a bar acroosed it to pinch it to the top and another screw thru the heater strap into the heat assembly . To change the insulation you have to cut and resolder a wire or 2 .

It went back together , and is working .

Yes it has a bad smell of new garden hose when off and a hot electronics smell when up to temp .

I'll keep working on it .
