Vapers vs Smokers 🤣

Hello everyone!

I don't understand the outrage people get when I suggest dry herb vaping.

I get told to "take my diet bong elsewhere" when I mention you can still bong rip with wpa's.

It's just crazy people get offended, I don't really preach it or anything I just asked a few people while I was vaping the other evening "hey have you tried dry herb vaping? " and it was immediately like "oh that crap doesn't get you high" "it's not as satisfying"

People are allowed to do whatever I don't care, but kinda amazes about the willingness to just inhale all kinda carcinogens when there's a great alternative.

I find it weird, but it's also the first time I've been on some opposing side of an issue like this and thought I'd just make a thread lol.

Hope everyone's enjoying their day!

(sips on diet bong) 🤣

Haha yeah those people are just willfully ignorant, tried one crappy vape and then presumed they are all that way, or just got a bad hit once off even a good vape... Most likely they just don't want to think about it at all, but to me they don't care about their health and don't even remotely understand how they are destroying half of the act of compounds by burning it, so let them have their carcinogens I guess! I stopped trying to convert people long ago, bring my own:shrug:

I've actually had a lot of luck converting people. My wife made the switch mostly because it was what I was doing, but now she just cant go back to smoking. One of my close friends is an only occasional smoker, probably once a week, and after trying my vapes he can't stomach smoking, too gross tasting compared to a good vape. In fact, I just hooked him up with a splinter to get him started on his own vape journey!

Well to be fair I did give my roommate my fierce to use, and that is what he uses as his go-to here, but otherwise smokes and with other people... Even my brother who I gotten into it originally with flower mate and then firefly and then a brick has switched to dabbing and just smoking joints again too... Most people I know who rely on vaping, are mainly just using disposable oil pens really

most of my friends prefer smoking joints, and i think a huge part of it is just aesthetics. they have all tried different portables of mine (mighty & tinymight), and were usually really impressed: yes great taste, yes cleaner high (we also always mix joints w/ tobacco here), more efficient etc etc.
but it just feels different passing around a vape instead of a joint, there is sth much more sci-fi and much less romantic about it. it sometimes feels as if they regard me as this stoner expert because i have all this specialist gear. it just happens to vapers but only vapers know this.
personally, i really miss the slow pace of joints, vaping 1 hit is usually enough for me for a good while. i started experimenting with cbd weed just to be able to draw a session out a bit. i recently came across "the gentleman pipe" and i like what this evokes, part of it is speed (or lack of). but 30min sessions just dont work with vapes i know (or my tolerance). 1629137548992.png

You guys make good points! I think I also it's daunting to spend hundreds of dollars on something that maybe you won't like or "think sucks" in your mind.

I simply love it, tasting all the different strains, ah man. Some I love, some I question, and some I don't like, but being able to taste bud those first few vapes.

😍

*edit*
Yeah it does have a bit of a sci fi feel to it haha it's kinda cool but kinda strange and not the traditional method I see it!

I think in 5 years we're gonna see some cool things in the dry herb vape world.

I think there is a Firewood or similar that has a magazine type set up with multiple bowls!
I have a friend that smokes joints with tobacco and has bucket bongs...I purchased a Tera for him as he liked mine on a bong but have since bought it back off him as he said it gets him too wasted compared to blazing...he is funny to watch after a dab too.

There is definitely a learning curve to all vapes which is going to attract a certain type. Combustion is a no-brainer, predictable experience for the non-curious.

Also, don’t know if my experience with ecigs translates, but when trying to convert smokers to vaping I found that I had most success with heavy/lifestyle smokers — as opposed to the one-a-day or once-in-awhile types. I suspect partly because the negative aspects of smoking (heath/smell/etc) is more pronounced, which makes the effort/learning curve worthwhile. Interestingly, I also realized there is something else in cigarettes besides nic, that if you are an infrequent smoker, really knocks you on your ass, that you just don’t get with ecigs. Whereas heavy smokers seem immune (or just always feel that way ;), and are just looking for their nic fix. I wonder if that ‘effect’ translates to herb? Idk. Definitely would play a factor with people that mix tobacco with their stash.

Strangly, when I first stopped smoking cigs, I preferred smoking my herb, because I missed that occasional smoky taste/throat hit. But once I got a proper device (Lotus) and could really taste all the subtle flavors, I was fully converted. What a difference! Plus that lotus pipe is just so simple and cool. Sad they shut down.

P.S. That and people just like to just play with fire!

I got two people to make the switch by gifting them Fury clones back when you could get them for like fifty bucks on eBay. They liked the cleaner high and loved the efficiency.

Both of them ended up “upgrading” to Fury 2s so I honestly don’t know if I converted them to vaping or Weecke.

Smokers can be some picky-ass people. I introduce people to the volcano before some found it quite impressive until the price gets a mention. Then here comes the ridicule that starts, "That is way too expensive to get high from it. "Did you really spend that much? "I will never spend that much on something just to do weed." Every fucking time after they vape a couple of bags. They do not criticize while ingesting flavorful vapor just after the fact. One of my favorite lines my buddy told me once, "vaping is a pu**y way of smoking." You're just an uneducated baboon who can not see the value of vaporizing yet. I am still hopeful more people will convert to vaporizers. Smokers are the ones that are missing out.

All of my circle still smoke (baccy mix). They think I'm the moron for buying multiple vapes and think it's all too scientific. I've stopped offering my viewpoint.

It's the non partakers that have the potential to really annoy. Spent an uncomfortable afternoon last month having a BBQ with some non toking mates. Both drink heavily whilst I've cut down massively over the years and now just have a couple....

Anyway, I was having a tinymight when the interrogation started.
The basic theme was 'why do you need it' and 'i think it's sad that you need to vape weed' all said whilst they were taking a massive hit on a nicotine vape of man made shit or a swig on cheap as pishhh whiskey.....

My protestations that I didn't NEED it but I enjoyed it, just like sex, (I have 3 rugrats so I don't need to have sex, but I do regularly cause I really enjoy it .. ) was a good enough reason but the belittling continued.

I kept me cool and politely reminded them that it was my choice and to mind their own fucking business. I had another tinymight and then made my excuses.

One of them messaged me last week suggesting we meet in the local bar for a catch up over a beer or two.

Hist message remains unanswered.....

I think that people who think vaping won't get you high have had a bad experience with vapes somehow.
Either waiting for a volcano balloon to fill up or using some magic flight box or something weaker.

Over the years I tried smoking again purely out of nostalgia, but it's just totally inferior and wasteful.

i think it boils down to more than just ignorance on one side or vapewokeness on the other. its openness for new experiences, technical savyness, health consciousness and other psychological factors that draw us to vaping which some people just dont have. on top of that, as all people are autonomous beings, some just dont want to do things, merely because someone suggested it to them (some people call that reactivity).
i personally gave up trying too. and i often find myself refusing to do XYZ too, when someone insists i try.
im sure less and less people will smoke eventually. than we can all say i told you so someday.

I’ve always been into vaping as I got into the cannabis game far later in life then most. I’m almost 50 and I first got high was in 2016. Took a hit off of a Coors Beer Ball Bong back in college but felt nothing. I’ve puffed on one pre-roll and a glass pipe that I bought but I always felt they were just much more odiferous and messy than a vape. The only thing I would like to try is a cannagar at some point - only with a bunch of friends though and that’s out for a long time for obvious reasons.

A few of my friends who smoke aren’t interested. I brought a Mighty once and a few of them took multiple hits and were surprised but went back to their pre-rolls, blunts, and pipes and bongs.

"why people don't like vapes" is one of my favorite topics as I find it fascinating.

Anyways I used to believe that too, this idea that people don't like vapes as they simply haven't used a good one yet. Well I've been lucky to own some of the best and Im still surprised by how relatively unconvincing they've been for others. I remember when I bought a Flowerpot in 2017, I thought that was going to be the nail in the coffin that no smoker could deny. Big fat bong hits crushed in one solid draw. But it still didn't really convince anybody to switch. Used to think it was the heatup time that turned people off, but as more on demand stuff came out and I acquired and demoed those, I realized that wasn't it either.

Eventually I started feeling like claims of vaporizer efficiency may have been inaccurate, or oversold throughout the years. This idea that vaporizing preserves all these goodies, thus making it theoretically more potent made lots of sense on paper - but it doesn't match all the anecdotes of people not getting high. A common sentiment is that vaping is stronger than smoking, but another common sentiment is that you should also take a t break first so the vapor "works better." I always thought this was a rough claim, that vaping is so strong you need to take a tolerance break first to feel it.

For many years I looked at smokers as "wrong" but at this point I think if they actually got really stoned off a vape they'd probably be convinced.

Basically realized that despite the many claims of vaporizing, many people do experience the opposite. Like the Temperature is a thousand degrees less, but people find it hotter than smoking. Or it should be a smooth mist, but they find it harsher and more aggregating. Or it's supposed to taste incredible but they just taste popcorn. Or It's supposed to get them higher but they aren't. Or it's supposed to be more efficient but the weed goes even quicker.

All the purported benefits of vaping are great - provided you actually get them. But obviously not everyone is. There's a lot of room to be made in this department.

Used to think smokers were just being stubborn, but seeing what even people who claim to like vaping go through just to find a device they enjoy, it really doesn't surprise me anymore to hear people's unsatisfied stances on vaping. That said, vaporizing is more popular than ever - it's so interesting to me that the vapes that convinced the masses to switch are the same devices most people on here hate.

This is a dynamic ive experienced in other hobbies, actually. The people on here are the people who actively want to go through the process, we find vaping an enjoyable and interesting experience so we dont mind spending lots of time searching for and playing with devices to figure out how to get them to work correctly. Most people, however, want to minimize the process and get to the result, and if thats what youre in for then smoking just makes much more sense. Its easier, doesnt require any complicated purchases or maintenance, and gets you stoned more immediately. So the devices that can switch people who dont necessarily want vape, just to get high, are the ones that eliminate the process; however, since we love the process, thats a con to the hobbyists.

I agree with what you're saying, but I want to point out that a lot of vaporizer manufacturers have solved a lot of the equations for people already. I feel like as soon as I find a vape that matches someone's combustion use "profile" they are really easily converted (most of the time).

My buddy who sparingly microdosed with chillums his whole life was a super easy sell for the e-nano with its high efficiency and reasonable price.

My other buddy who has always packed 1-gram bowls in a giant bong and loves dabbing was an easy sell for the torch driven elev8r.

I do have a few friends who refuse to give up smoking blunts (dutchmasters), and a few friends who don't feel they smoke enough to justify buying a vape in their minds.

The rest are super jealous though and are too cheap or think I'm gonna give up one of my babies!

There’s also the ritual of things. I remember reading studies about alcoholism in the past - essentially the researchers would remove the ritualistic aspects of drinking put in a masking agent and alcoholics were less likely to drink. Taking away the sounds and feel of ice, bottles, cans, etc. made a big difference. The same could be applied to smoking as well. There’s a big ritual with getting out a rolling tray, grinding up the buds, rolling the joint or blunt, or the feel of a bong in the hand or all of that is probably a big factor. I’m guessing it’s just not the same with vapes.

Idk some vapes have even more ritual, some have less. Depends on the vape.

its called cue-reactivity (as in when i sit in my chair i reach for the bottle) and is a theory connected to conditioning and learning theory to explain addiction.
i do feel vaping is even more ritualistic though, with cleaning, trying out new addons, etc.
man i even enjoy the cleaning sometimes and i hate cleaning bathrooms fe

I owned my EQs way before I ever considered giving up smoking. I always appreciated the signature of the vapour but it was a different experience that only came out when I had excessive stash. I never found it efficient in terms of stash use but my other form of consumption was spliffs rolled with tobacco. I didn't smoke cigarettes unless social circumstance dictated a spliff was not acceptable for many years. The ritual of rolling a spliff became second nature in my teens when I first leaned how, and obsessed over getting the perfect experience. When I decided to stop smoking I found vaping to be much much more work, however the benefit of but coughing up a lung the moment I woke up soon made the effort worthwhile, and quite quickly I started to obsess over getting the perfect experience again which made the effort enjoyable... It was part of the journey!

If I hadn't felt so rough in the mornings i would never have converted. I'm thankful every day, and often wonder wtf I was thinking for so many years, especially when I walk past tobacco smoke these days!

All in all, my point is, smoking is so main stream and accessible it will always attract more people, especially when experimenting, then when it's easy, and effective, why look for another way!

That is my exact experience as well. I was a daily spliff smoker for 10 years, and only stopped because the tobacco was wreaking havoc on my lungs and making my mornings very stuffy and awful. I prided myself as a flawless spliff roller, so being able to replace that ritual with vaping rituals was a big reason I was able to succcesfully quit and move forward (It also helps that I can vape inside during the winter).

I think this is a very FC thing. Yeah, we all love getting baked but you can get a Bic and papers at any corner shop, newsstand, bodega, or what-have-you. For most, it’s enough.

We’re all here because we’re all chasing that better high. Basically, we’re the geeks of the cannabis world— tinkerers, over-thinkers, and obsessives in search of elevation. 👍
