based on everything I've read, somebody introduced Chinese-made tainted vitamin E acetate oil,

China has not been connected to anything but empty carts and packaging.
Perhaps I missed something but it seems to me US citizens are the source, not even drug cartels.

No one "credible" is suggesting yet that the E acetate is "tainted", pure E acetate is quite capable of destroying lungs.

here's the link I'm referencing:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/heal...5b708e-d98d-11e9-ac63-3016711543fe_story.html

from the article: "Sidewalks outside the storefronts double as ad hoc loading docks. One shop representative who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity because he feared retaliation from other store owners, said more business people from China have come to the district in the past four months to sell counterfeit Honey Cut thickener in large quantities."

maybe untainted vitamin E acetate is capable of causing chemical burns in the lungs, but this mass poisoning seems fairly sudden/recent, so one question is: how long have they been adulterating carts with vitamin E acetate? if it's a relatively recent phenomenon, that would suggest the vitamin E acetate is the culprit - but if they've been adulterating the cartridges for a while, going back to before the mass poisoning, it could mean a tainted batch of vitamin E acetate got into the supply chain.

just my own speculation.

Drew (Andrew) Jones AKA Mr. Extractor is the culprit behind the vitamin E acetate and the majority of the death and illness we all read about. He started selling it late last year. The entire story is on ICMag. I have been following this for almost a year. Long before mainstream media got a hold of it. We sent emails to the FDA warning them about it long ago. My most recent email to the FDA said, "... if you had responded to our allegations when they were presented, 6 people who are dead, would be alive now.

When it's all over, I doubt Drew will be held accountable. So much misinformation spread by the media will probably simply result in the regulation and taxation of e-cigs (which has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the death and illnesses).

can you direct me to the thread at icmag? thanks

Sorry gang... moving is killing me. LOL

Here is the oldest one....

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=359328

There are 3 or 4 more follow-up threads. I will dig them up and post them as soon as I can find a minute.

EDIT:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=366736

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=365803

There is also a long drawn out thread (or 2 or 3 or 4) at Future4200.com

https://future4200.com/t/vitamin-e-mr-extractor/39752

Do some searches for "Mr. Extractor" and "Vitamin E" and you might find some archives of the youtube videos where he was selling his "revolutionary, completely safe" dilutant. Giant gallon bottles of Vitamin e for wholesale sale to dealers and distributors.

It's just a personal opinion... but that guy just looks seedy to me. Kind of reminds me of the 2 headed guy in the first Men in Black.

On the surface Drew Jones explanation seems plausible (counterfeit products being the issue vs vitamin E which he claims was used to thicken vs MCT oil (need right consistency for carts), yet also prevented the extraction from solidifying) but I know very little about concentrates since its not really my thing.

Excuse me while I do more research on the topic.

which he claims was used to thicken

Properly produced cannabis oils for cartridges are very thick to begin with.

The thickener is used to adjust the viscosity of oil which has already been cut with a thinning agent. This gives you twice as much dilution (cha-ching) while still giving the misleading physical appearance of raw, uncut oil.

The people that were actually using this stuff in their cartridges are just as bad, if not worse than the guy selling it.

Lets not be misconstrued, this is shady people supporting shady people. And all these dudes on ICmag and Future4200 that supported these companies are just as guilty of obliviousness. They should have never been using non cannabis derived anything, ever, in their processes.

I agree with keeping it pure. But, the convenience of the liquid vape carts was simply too strong. No smoke, no smell, no roaches, no flame. Pull it out, take a puff and put it back. Just too fucking easy. Personally, I can't stand vape carts. I have made a ton with every mix, blend and concentrate you can imagine. And, I don't like any of them.

However, with that strong of a market, the opportunity seekers were coming out of the walls. One guy I know was selling liquid vape carts and he was selling as many as 50,000 a week. I am not that close but I can only assume they were mostly all tainted in one way or another.

Man! 50,000 carts a week, thats alot of potentially sick/poisoned customers.

Greedy f#$king pricks.

Everything's going to be OK...the legal profession has determined they're needed. What one predicts:

https://www.cannalawblog.com/vaping-epidemic-and-cannabis-what-cannabis-businesses-can-expect/
1. Bans
2. More regulations
3. Increased internal governance and recalls
4. Lawsuits
...Intelligent cannabis businesses will get out in front of the vaping epidemic with tight corporate and production policies around vape production and quality, client education and safety, and recall protocols and plans that already plan for the worst. Until the states get more seriously into gear regarding consumer production (and, let’s face it, pick it up on enforcement against the illegal market and bad actors), a lot of consumer well-being will fall directly onto cannabis businesses and testing laboratories. With that great responsibility comes the large risk of having to deal with significant changes in regulation and litigation threats. For cannabis businesses, the time is now to prepare accordingly.

Crisis management is admittedly an odd bird. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Hanu Stone has made no reference to the vape issue. Pax Era makes no reference either but states the following on its site, which isn't reassuring months into this kind of story...

"PAX Labs Inc. has sold empty Era pods to various fillers in select states, which fill the pods with herbal extracts at their discretion." Does this strike you as legalese?

What I'd like to see at this point is random testing of state sanctioned pods and carts now on the shelves lab tested, independently.

Yet another study that talks about Mustard Gas. I suspected we were vaping canola oil way back last year. Canola Oil that you eat and the mustard gas used in WWII both are made from the same rapeseed plant.

https://www.wweek.com/news/state/20...-a-specific-chemical-used-in-cheap-vape-pens/

The "study" you linked to does not mention mustard gas.
Mustard gas is made by treating sulfur dichloride with ethylene and variations on this theme.

Canola is a rapeseed that was cross breed to remove erucic acid.

Planck,
Read before you talk.....

"The study out of the Colorado lab largely backs up the findings out of the Mayo Clinic's study of 17 lung tissue samples last week, which found that all the injuries resembled severe chemical burns, similar to those caused by mustard gas, a biological weapon created during World War I."

You're also wrong about the mustard gas.

Rapeseed is a member of the mustard family, one of the most toxic of all plants, and is shunned by insects. Mustard gas, which was banned in war because it blisters lungs and skin, is made from rapeseeds.

Better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.

Perhaps you should take your own reading advice.
The study talks about silver solder and cadmium oxide, and was done by company that sells cannabis products.

I am not wrong about what and how mustard gas is made.
DoctorDirt is completely wrong.

Didi you read his fine article https://www.dirtdoctor.com/garden/13-Mostly-Indestructible-Dog-Toys_vq13675.html

Your last line was unnecessary and completely uncalled for.

I think they were using it as an analogy and not a diagnosis.

As to the rapeseed/mustard gas, I don't see a lot of general support for anything other than chemical factories bringing together the ingredients to create the particular mix of the day. Mustard gas has nothing to do with mustard and, if rapeseed oil was used in the manufacture of it, I don't think it is because of any species relationship with the mustard plant.

oh FFS, so now it's back to my comment about the materials on the vapes - wonder now if these pens are made on the cheap, the internals on our normal dry-herb vapes - could be pretty damn similar or what? even devices from Canada and USA would have Chinese internals on them right? assembled in China?

Silver solder has been (and possibly still is) used in some dry herb vapes too.
