Holy jeezus. G, you have come a long way with this nail already! That video of Caligula's was mouth-watering!
As to the long drop for the dabber to reach the nail, during my recent absence, I accidentally broke the dome on my oil rig (yup, the Ryu Wilson slyme rig!). Whilst Ryan was made me a new one, I was using my 18mm carbon filter upside-down without and carbon/screen as a dome, and yes, this had a long drop indeed to the nail from the top of the dome.
However, it very much depends on the kind of dabber you are using as to whether this is any kind of problem. I find with both my custom made Ryu Wilson opal encrusted boro dabber that it both dabs into the 18mm male joint and carb caps it perfectly, meaning that by the time dabber has touched nail, the boro ridges on my dabber have carb capped the top of my dome. This is extremely effective IME!
