I've been enjoying my UD very much since I got it not long ago.....so after a week or so of use these are my observations.
I really love the Nong's as well as the SS tips that I purchased and made my own Song's out of them by throwing a thicker diameter silicone tubing around the SS stem and smaller piece of attached silicone tubing that they came with.
The smaller inner silicone tubing it comes with serves perfectly to hold the larger ID tubing with greater ID onto the SS stem. The larger tubing then sits deep enough into a 14mm down-stem (or adapter) on a bubbler to then seal the 14mm opening hole and still have the sides of the 14mm glass wall support the SS stem with only a little movement.
Although if you use a larger piece of silicon tubing it isn't a big deal either and then you can also use it as a very short silicone whip to further help cool the vapour.
I would put up a picture but I haven't figured out how to post a pic from my hard drive yet.
The Ailanthus wood is much nicer in person - even though the pics are very nice too - and I'm not sure if it my imagination or not but it seems to be a little darker than when I first pulled it out of the box. It's a very nice caramel coloured wood with a very interesting grain structure running through it.
The shape of it is also incredibly nice to hold in the hand in either orientation. I am very happy with my purchase and made sure that I loaded up on a lot of accessories. My best advice for anyone thinking of a purchase is to load up on Nongs.....18mm's are the best .....that way they can sit there all loaded and ready to be used in any social situation.
Give your friends who are over their own Nong to care and feed as they like during their visit (take a deposit first .....lol) ......just leave the UD on and beside a bubbler and let people help themselves .......especially if they are "BYOW" visitors who bring their own goodies around to share.
The jury rigged silicon "song's" are more compact .....but the 18mm Nong's are big enough to sit up without falling over. I think a perfect accessory for the Nong's would be a strip of silicone thick enough for the tip of the SS stem to penetrate up to the crimped point and yet have a nice thick backing remaining. That way you could load up all your Nong's and insert them into the silicone/rubber strip and slide them into a small plastic case for travel.
I also like the way that the SS stem hits harder that the glass stems due to the addition of conductive heating over a greater surface area:volume of herb ratio..... by letting the stem sit against the heater for a bit before drawing (i.e., smaller vol of herb to a greater vol of ss conductive contact area with the heater).........as well as the regular convective heating that you also get when drawing air through it.
I think that the glass gong's that I purchased (2x long, and 2x short) will serve their "higher" purpose when I get my VVPS and then I can use a higher heat to get the same vapour density as with the SS stems.......as well as using the extra available space for bigger loads or a larger loading area to position concentrates either on a bed of herb or within some organic cotton.
After getting my UD, I decided to sell my Solo to a friend who would like to get into vaping.....this freed up some extra money to join the Massdrop for the newly redesigned version of the Mighty (new housing, firmware upgrade, 2 min timer, etc).
With the Arizer Extreme V-Tower (Earlier Generation Extreme), my Underdog and when my Mighty and Grasshopper arrive, I think that I will have the perfect variety of vaporizers for all my purposes........except for maybe a Sublimator
........Hmmmn, maybe something to think of for Christmas?
Hmmmn, is this feeling that I'm feeling what has been commonly referred to on FC as VAS?
But for right now - I am enjoying my UD immensely......even without the use of a VVPS.....basically because of the extra heat drawing conductive power of the SS stems.
Underdoggette (Amanda) was also of great assistance in processing my order and even though I thought that I had everything I needed in the way of a crap load of extra accessories.......I was also happy to see some nice little extra's arrive with my unit that just seemed to round out the purchasing experience very nicely and also give me some neat little extra containers to play with.
But I think that I'm going to have to go look for steel versions of the wooden dowel tools now though.....they work really well ........but I did snap the end off of the thinner one used to help position the SS screens in the smaller diameter SS stems.
I also find myself using it for aromatherapy .......I purchased the Cedar and the Lemongrass and both are very nice in adding a nice, non-overpowering scent to the room. I got 6 copper dishes so that I could have multiple essences on the go at once and just switch out to whatever I am feeling like for that day......so far only a choice between the two .....but that will change with a visit to the local health store.
I'd be very happy to hear of other suggestions for room scents that other people have enjoyed.
So, all in all, one very happy customer here! Thanks Underdog & Underdoggette
