Underdog Log Vapes

RUDE BOY

Space is the Place
I have an older Ash underdog I picked up used here on FC and was taken aback at how beautiful the wood was when I first got it (near a year ago). Now it's overall a few shades darker and the different grain (growth?) patterns in the Ash just pop out at ya now and becoming even more eye catching and sweet looking week to week.

Had more then one person believe it was a different dog due to those changes one month to another.
Not sure @EveryDayAmnesiac would even recognize it as his former pup if he was holding it now.

Today my little Goncalo pup is serving up wonderful vapor via a Nylon stem, I love my Dogs.

Not to undercut this thread, and I concur the UD is as functional as it is beautiful. But I'd suggest getting on the HI (heat island) list. They are every bit as powerful, if not more so. And just as beautiful, with custom wood. And the accessories are mostly interchangeable. The list is free, and theres a reason the wait is around a year.
I'm waiting for a hot pod. l wonder if the HI list is so long because it takes forever to get one.

In search of the best terps and smoothest vapor
I picked up a used Maple UD from a fellow FC member. It's my first log style vape. I've enjoyed it so far. It's a solid performer and a nice change of pace for the collection.

One question, I have some Howard's butcher block conditioner lying around. It's food grade mineral oil along with beeswax and carnauba wax. Is it ok to use this instead of underbutter?

I use butcher block conditioner on all my log vapes.

Most likely the problem is in the power supply as that's almost always the case when such things crop up. Send Underdogette a message and she'll help you troubleshoot the cause when she gets back to the office later this afternoon. :peace:

Hey @underdog and @underdogette, I wanted to say thanks for the new extension cord for my UD. But... it's broken just like the first one! :(
I used the new extension cord for about a week with my new VVPS (the $20 TPS-MP30) paired with a tattoo style power cord I got from you. It worked great until yesterday; now when my underdog is hooked up with the new extension cable it doesn't heat up. I grabbed my multimeter: voltage from the VPS with tattoo style cord is good, but with the extension cord I got no voltage reading. Same results with the stock wall power supply.
My underdog doesn't leave my desk so the cord is not getting bent, folded, kinked, tugged, or anything! I think I must have horrible luck, I have not been rough with any of my UD components.

Further tests with my multimeter revealed that I can get an inconsistent voltage reading (with the cord bent in a certain direction) with my original extension cord. But I can't get a voltage reading with the new extension cord at all.

My extension cord stopped working after about a week, Not a big deal for me since i got a vvps for it. I personally don't feel screen placement alone cut's it for these.

What do you need screen placement for? Providing more or less heat? Screen placement doesn't make the much UD hotter and unless you've got a long glass or silicone stem it really won't make much difference.

@underdog it seems to have dropped about 15-20 degrees Celsius...that happens sometimes even thought the power source hasnt changed?

Ill try a few outlets before I blame the dog!

do you know where the break is?
mine tends to break regularly very close to the plug that goes into the UD, so I got a screw-on plug, whenever I have a cable break I just cut of a little piece at the end, re-atach the plug, and I have a warm dog again.

What does everyone do with there reclaim from your stems? I have always just cleaned them out with iso and dumped it down the drain. Whats the easiest and most efficient way of using it? Could I just simmer some milk in a pan and put my stems in? Then drink the milk after?

Sometimes a power supply will 'fade' before going out entirely though we have had relatively few issues with the current model(s) of power supply. If you can rule out line voltage changes, ambient temp changes and cable issues (cracked cables, loose connections between them, etc) then the PS is possibly suspect. It should also be noted that if you've used it (the PS) for experimentation and overloaded it or caused any kind of short circuit it's (the PS) performance or lifespan may have been impacted.

No, it's really a hit or miss when i move the cable around trying to get a voltage reading. Does anyone have recommendations on any other extension power cords?

I've only seen a handful of extensions fail, I guess you must be super unlucky. These are the best cables we've found to date that we can purchase in bulk but we're always looking for other options. If anyone finds better cables please let us know and we'll investigate them as an option.

Alright Underdogs I have to keep it short today. Lots of shop work to get done and quite a few custom Dogs to pull from testing and get sent onward to their new homes.
