Yeah, Mikeben- hmm, yeah, I'm not sure how the other screen could have gotten a ridge, or a fold or anything like that.... Unless-- Are you talking about Glass screens or Nylon screens? After we insert the glass screens, we use a dowel to push on the sides of the screen and take a second dowel and push from the bottom at the same time. We do this to straighten the screens out after they're inserted. Maybe this is what caused the ridge/fold? If it's the nylons you're talking about, then I'm really not sure. We don't do anything special there. The screens are all the same.

and also....

Happy Thanksgiving UDs!

We'll be taking the rest of the day off- hope you all enjoy yourselves!!

Happy thanksgiving to you too!.

Yes I just checked and my little Nylon screens are perfect, it's the five glass screens I am having trouble with. I should have made that clearer. I would love to buy five post doweled glass screens is what I was trying to say all along. Sorry I wasn't communicating the problem too well.

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving yesterday, we took a whole day off of work but are back in action today and pushing hard to have everything done in time for the Holiday Sale kickoff on the 1st.

We also got an awesome, thoughtful gift in the mail from some of our FC family so thank you all very much. The Dogs are already all over it trying to find long lost cousins and whatnot.

You know, we've been working on a 'How-to' video series project, and this gave me the little extra push I needed to get at least one of the videos finished and published. :)

The dowel process I'm talking about occurs after the screen is installed- so you would need to do this at home, and actually you only need the one dowel and a table to do it. Take a look at this video:

The specific part where the ridge is formed that you like, happens at the 1:56 mark if you want to jump ahead. I think the video should explain it better than I can in writing- let me know if this helps it all make sense!

Hey guys, recently acquired a gorgeous dog from @Gandalf , and just got my thick stem (in very timely fashion) from Amanda. Just wanted to share a couple of tweaks I made to it
djoGazgh.jpg

May be a little hard to see there, but I added a bit of activated carbon with another screen "above" the basket for the green. Doesn't seem like activated carbon is super popular with vapes on here, but I like adding it when possible. Makes a HUGE difference with combustion, but I still feel like it may filter out some of the harmful organic compounds that are more nonpolar than THC that occur even at vaping temps (BS Chem major). At the very least it catches any "crumbs" and doesn't seem to affect performance. Also cut two pieces of extreme Q vinyl whip tubing to create a makeshift WPA
W8Tui7hh.jpg

Still not getting the super milky hits I've seen others get, I've searched this forum but any additional advice is appreciated. Although from what I can tell I think a nylon stem will do the trick....current water setup

I see what you mean a lot better, I think I can make it work. They just seemed so thin at the top edges and I didn't realize I could shape them inside the stem either. Thanks for this both of you!

Cool mod with the activated charcoal.. does it affect the draw resistance much?

What voltage are you running? If you're not getting as big a clouds as you were hoping for you might try bumping the voltage a little more and see if that helps.

Anywho, welcome to The Pack!:2c:

When you use a small amount of carbon, it doesn't affect draw resistance at all. I filled it up with too much at first, but a small amount does the trick.

I vape between 13.8-14.2 to get bigger clouds. From what I've read, I didn't think I was supposed to exceed much more than that. I've also tried different draw speeds

Some dogs, just seem to run cold. My very first dog needs to be right in that range as well (13.7-14) for me to get consistant clouds without having to wait on the dog maintaining temp. Not sure why, but this was a dog I got last year, and I'm not sure how long it was shelved prior. The dog you got was purchased in 2012, so maybe the older models don't get as hot?

I do think that is the case, because @underdog mentioned a few months back how he was working on changing his cores, and how the standard cores tend to run hotter than the standard cores he used to use. I know if I were to put my newer dogs on 13.8, I'd combust in a heartbeat.

Neat, thanks for the additional info on the carbon.

Generally speaking we don't recommend people push their voltage as high as you are but I suspect you might have a cool running Dog, if that's the case pushing the envelope a bit more shouldn't hurt. I'd say in your case you might try taking it as high as 15v.. don't leave it there 24/7 or anything but for a session at a time it should be ok.

If you want to you could also send it in and have us take a look at it. We could replace the heating element with one of our newer hotter ones if need be. :2c:

I can't really tell by your pictures or description of using activated charcoal, but if you are directly mixing it with herb, as appears in the photo, that may very well be why you're not getting the clouds you expect. The charcoal, if mixed w/herb, will absorb much of the heat that would otherwise vapor-singe the herb directly, and will also cause too much space between the herb particles to allow for any appreciable vapor concentration of heat and output. There are actually refillable activated charcoal-filled gong adapters on the market specifically made to achieve your filtration goals. Am I getting your method correct ...please advise. Thanks!

So has anyone traveled on an airplane with their underdog? I'm going to be visiting family this month and was thinking of ordering a nylon stem to be with my family waiting for me and then only be traveling with the dog itself and my dimmer and cords and an aromatherapy cup so if questioned I can say it's an aromatherapy device for use with essential oils. I'll be traveling within the US from a prohibition(medical starts soon but not for flowers) state to a medical state and back to the prohibition state. Carry-on or checked baggage? Should I try to deal with my family with only my portable vape and not rely on the underdog? What have y'all done before?

Your plan seems to be the go-to for people traveling with their Dogs. New (never used) stem or have on delivered to your destination, pack the Dog with an aroma cup and put in your checked luggage and don't try and hide it. Pack it with your toiletries.

The only other thing I can suggest is tap/blow the Dog out thoroughly to make sure there's no debris in it and then let it run all night before you leave (or day) to burn off any lingering stuff and you should probably be good to go.

@underdog have you ever put together a pid controlled UD?:worms: I'm currently working on putting together a 12v e nail controller (just waiting on a couple parts) and the thought has crossed my mind more than once to use the controller with an UD. A 4 pin mini XLR connector could be used in place of the barrel jack so a thermocouple could be attached to the outside of the core somewhere. I don't even know that it would benefit the UD with all her thermal mass just a fun project idea I thought I'd put out there.

Hey Dogs, happy Monday hope you all had a good weekend.

We'll be kicking off the Holiday Sale tomorrow morning so it's a rush around here to get all the final preparations in place. :borg:

Thought about it a little but never spent much time going down that path since I suspect for low volume, handmade items like UDs it would bump the price too much for most people. When you finish your controller I could probably build you a custom Dog using it though.
