Underdog Log Vapes

my underdog is such a trooper. Dropped it about 5 feet onto some hardwood today (no one call dog protective services, it was an accident) and it's still workin' like a champ. No cracks or dings and I'm having a tough time even telling where it made contact with the floor.

Also the extension cord reaches every corner of my studio from a single outlet so I'm pretty damn happy with my UD. People ask me if I planned it, I just say of course. Gotta look smarter than you are :p

I also scoped out some burl and mahogany humidors for storage so maybe it'll have a new doghouse soon.

Wow the week really flew on by.. I've been so busy in and around the shop that I haven't been able to post any pics of the new pieces we're working on. Maybe this coming week, fingers crossed.

With no moving parts and no delicate electronics these little beasts (and Logs in general) can take quite a bit of punishment and (usually) just shrug it right off. Occasionally people tell us we should make a video of a Dog taking some serious licks and how it (hopefully) keeps on going.. kind of like what Tom did back in the Purple Days days. So far I haven't been able to bring myself to intentionally abuse/destroy a Pup for such purposes.. :science:

Hey everyone, still working on pieces for a refresh.. lots of super nice Pups in the pipeline (pupline?) including quite a few high-end/exotic Dogs. Will really try and get some pics for you all this week. Really. I swear. :p

Killer morning session with the UD using one of the SS stem tips stuck in the vapolution vapor barrel. Sweet, Sweet, sweet vapor clouds. Almost too awesome for words.

Love mixing up the stem options for the day.

Did the tip fit in the Vapor Barrel with the small silicone sleeve we include with the tips or did you have to find your own solution? If the 'stock' silicone/tip combo fits we'll add it to our notes. :)

Nothing like waking up to a warm dog on a cold day.. Oh and a nice cup of coffee!

Cold day, warm Dog and hot coffee... that sounds like the start to a great day!

You should open a coffee/vapor lounge so I can hang out there. I'll bring Dogs.

I used a short length of the vapolution tubing and a tip I pulled out of a nylon stem to play with. I don't have the silicone sleeve from your site yet but i don't think it'll work with them as you need to slip an 1/2 inch or so into the vapor barrel to make a seal.

Soon I'm going to order a few supplies from you so I'll have a few SS tips with your silicone to try 'em out.

Hi,
I bought a second hand underdog almost 2 years ago. First I must say that I am so pleased with it : after owning it, I never felt the need to buy an other one ! It works so well ! I have a few questions about it though : The guy I bought it from added glue under it ( see pics). He said that when he removed the leather piece, he could see holes between the different wood parts and that it was not good because when using the vape, air could enter from the holes and go through electronic stuff. In other words : the air path was not completely safe with the holes. So he filled them with glue. My question is : what do you think about it ? Second question : lately my dog doesn't get hot anymore when I plug it into the sector. Well in fact it's really strange : sometimes it does not warm anymore but if I play with the alimentation or try to plug it in again It can sometimes work again :/ Do you think the AC adapter may be dead ? I live in an old house where sometimes fuses pop for no apparent reason... If I want to change the alimentation adapter to see if it is the problem : what kind of adapter should I buy ? I live in Europe, any 120 to 12 V adapter may do the trick ? For example this :http://www.amazon.fr/dalimentation-adaptateur-secteur-100-240V-LD137/dp/B00BLI7MLU ? ( yep french here)
Sorry for the long paragraph.

Hi -francois-,

Wow, talk about a vintage Dog.. I remember that one well though it's been a lot of years since I've seen it. Thanks for sharing and glad you've enjoyed it!

Normally I would think the power supply is the problem but with a piece this old it's just as likely to be the power plug or the heating element is reaching the end of its life.

Unfortunately a standard 12v power supply won't do you much good as these were run at 13v+ (even though their power supplies indicated 12v their output was higher) so it's unlikely you'll find a new power supply to match. Even if you did find a power supply it wouldn't address the issue of the plug and/or heating element.

The above said, send a message to @underdogette and we'll see if we can't help you get up and running again somehow.

Thanks!
Underdog

PS> In old Dogs like that one there were frequently 1-2 holes in the bottom wooden plug which were meant to be there and were used to help remove the plug for servicing should it be necessary. There shouldn't have been any air flow from the bottom up as the cores were sealed and the leather bottom installed over the wooden base. :peace:

@RUDE BOY Thanks :) So according to you the problem seems to come from the power supply and not from inside the vape ? The vape in itself seems to have no problem ( it's a real tank, love it so much) but since I can't open it, I can't really know. And I suppose you can't know either :p But even if the problem does not come from the power supply, it's worth trying to buy one to save my poor underdog :p

@underdog Thanks for the reply. That's fine customer relationship ! In fact I have always had a french power plug. I will post a pic of it. And it worked well, even if I must admit it was hard to get dark brown chocolate ABV. And what's strange is that at the time I am speaking it works again !! So I don't think the heating element is dead. So my question still stands on : does anybody know what kind of european power supply could power it ?

Replying to myself : I'm more and more confident the problem comes from the power supply. As I said earlier, at the moment the vapes works quite well. And if I touch the power supply plugged into the wall socket, it is slightly warm. Whereas when the previous day the vaporizer didn't work, the power supply was cold to touch !

Got a resolution last week from eBay, on the two battery powered units. Full refund and just received a working unit from a friend! This thing rocks, I can take my Pups and HI anywhere I want now! Around 4.5 solid hours per quad battery cycle, not too shabby. Still eagerly awaiting my AC/DC VK though!

Ah, well if you've been enjoying it with a Euro power supply then definitely try another, if this is the case then any 12v 1A+ should work fine. The tip should be 2.1mm, polarity doesn't matter. The power supply you linked to should be more than adequate. :)

@SSVUN~YAH - that's awesome man, glad you got it sorted out. Your run times are about the same as mine.. very cool. Battery powered Log Vape for the win!

@underdog Thanks, Im gonna buy a new power supply. Here is a picture of the one I have been using so far :

But if you tell me I'd get better results with 13 V, what do you suggest me to buy ( since I'm gonna buy a new power supply)

I can't make a specific suggestion for a 13v power supply, especially a Euro model so I'm not much help there unfortunately. If you search on Amazon.fr you might find one (search for '13v' and make sure it's also at least 1A+) but other than that I couldn't say. If you can't find a 13v then definitely try a 12v since that's what you've been using anyways.. those should be easy to find at least.

Absolutely Stunning!!! I'm really digging those ultra-thin twigs (talk about portable logs with a battery powered vvps!!!)!!! Wow!!! Aarfff!!!

those two middle twigs are crazy! hell they all look great, looks like you're trying to constantly elevate your game.

what kind of wood is on the far left?

Thanks man!

Wood on the far left is some local Claro Walnut which I've been calling Fudgy because it looks like fudge swirls lol.

One of the middle Twigs is Amboyna Burl from @Snappo that was initially going to belong to @SSVUN~YAH but now is up for grabs.
