Too much weed?

I don't have an answer or even spent much time thinking about it, but, how is (eventual) legalization going to change things?

One thing that is a big difference to those in legal states is availability. You might not be able to get a certain brand of a certain type of oil, but you can always "score". In the old days, one mitigating factor to any problems from using was the fact it was just not readily available whenever you wanted it. Even if I wanted to use every day as a teen, I couldn't. Today, supply is simply not a problem.

Are there any downsides to cannabis being freely (Heh, it ain't free.) available? Can there be such a thing as too much weed?

No, there is no such thing as too much weed.:D You can still compost the bad qualities or run biogasification with them.
In europe Holland is the country where weed is most readily available, but relatively little young people consume it. France in contrary is very strict about illegality and has much more young users.
I heard similar from the states that legalised for recreational in US too.

Do you think there's too much booze? The French would disagree I'm sure!
Yes.

Society would be far better off if we saved it for special occasions and not used it regularly. Cannabis does not have the profound negative influences on people with regular use alcohol does. That does not imply there are no potentially negative effects of regular use of cannabis easily available to a larger proportion of the population than before.

...been using weed since 1967...never really had a problem finding any...maybe because I always have lived in cities?..besides college which was...well..college..everywhere I went I was always able to “cop”...(what we called it back than)..so for me legalization hasn’t changed much on that score..there are other advantages.

It could take the law breaking thrill out of it for young people,
It may also cause it to skip a generation, when the youth see us and think "I don't want to be like a crooked older person with an MJ vape and red eyes"
Or like in Holland, it seemed to "police itself" as I saw it,
the cafe's are frowned upon or tsked at by many square type passers by.
And servers in fast food joints might give you guff for being too stoned in front of other customers!
So even in a "free" market, there will always be a huge section of society wagging their finger at you and making you feel bad about it?!

Even if I wanted to use every day as a teen, I couldn't. Today, supply is simply not a problem.

Where I am this part is almost the opposite! But I know what you mean.

Maybe I can try to reply for him, the legalization in the States (not every state I know!) brings huge company to invest money in this business taking it out from hands of "artisanal" growers. Most of the times this growers were coming from the low-incomes society since this business was a great help. Since it was small productions it was easier for them to use compost or others naturals incomes to feed their soil and they never used any pesticides.
I'm not speaking about "mafia" or "gangs" business which was the dark side of this days (and still present for others stuff even in legalized states) but may be easily eliminated if there wasn't politicals compromitted in their business... so cops waste their time to fight with artisanals growers and let the worst to continue their business in peace.

So the legalization àla USA leads to intensive cannabis cultivation, pesticides, kill soils, use a ton of energy when indoor and money is going in the same pockets than all the rest... I would prefer the legalization àla Uruguay where cultivation is in the hands of "clubs" for the most and the government official farm for the rest (there is still a lot of "brick weed" from black market but since it's easier for peoples to grow themselves better cannabis it will be a lot less lucrative business).

I have nothing of value to add, I’m just here because I like the name of this thread.

Same. And surprised @OldNewbie started it. Surely, the free market will sort this out with little to no interference from government. ;)

Basically agree that society would be better off if people were inclined to use cannabis and alcohol less frequently because their lives are filled with meaningful, challenging work, family and community activities, and they feel fundamentally secure about their futures and those of their children.

Sorry to say, that's probably not going to happen until we're replaced by racoon people in 100 million years, so toke up! (Fishing for meme - don't disappoint.)

Grow you own, could equal too much weed though.

Only one plant a year supplies 60-80mgs shatter a day. Not having too much requires restraint.

IMHO there can definitely be negatives (and too much weed). I've not read the entire thread but will rely on the fact that I most often see things differently than most. So I leave you with the following scenerio...

In the USA, our farming business is dying.
This China crisis isn't helping them, as China buys a lot of our crops.

Now, what is more profitable, a field of corn or a field of weed?
Could you imagine the impact to the USA, and the world, if our farmers all decided to toss the veggies in favor of the herb?

My bet is the government would step in and regulate land use for only growing certain kinds of crops, if this started to take place... but why wouldn't the farmers choose the more profitable crop?

:peace:

just before death the munchies kick in  It is self regulating.

edit: @DDave Isn't that what US and other countries (UN) were trying to convince drug producing countries to do?
Plant something less profitable instead of "drug" plants. Were they successful? Well...
They would be ready to try their schooling on US farmers too. Crazy world.

They all should use more cannabis!

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
Supply and demand ..... if all our farmers decided to toss veggies in favor of herb the price of that herb would drop like a rock because supply would rise exponentially versus demand. The opposite would happen to veggies so some farmers would run back to veggies.
