So no-go on the acetone cleaning? If I can't get this thing clean and working it's basically throw-away time at this point.
I'd hold on for a bit, Joe, and give TV a chance to get back here. Then I'd contact them off line before throwing anything away. I recall some talk about stronger solvents, but what that list might include and what it might hold for you in terms useful solvents I've no idea. Let them make that call?
And it should be possible to rebuild your unit. I've seen Tim do it a couple of times. It takes special tools to open and close it again, of course, but once the ceramic is removed it can be heated to very high temperatures to 'flame off' almost anything that might be there. One of mine came out looking 'brand new' even. This was at a time when he was tweaking prototype heaters for me, I doubt it's a routine service, but it's clearly possible. Given the high cost of the labor to make the heater element and high materials costs of the ceramic elements recycled this way, perhaps they'll offer rebuilds?
