We really brutalize our batteries. A 15W Cera core draws a little over 4 amps. For a 600mAh 14500 IMR that's almost 7C. It's a wonder our batteries last more than three or four cycles.
Boy isn't that the truth. A classic 'end justifies the means' deal. Anything less than AW IMRs don't seem to stand a chance, note of the ones I tried were worth the effort. I hope the mini Cera carries more battery, but even if it doesn't I know it will do well and be 'just the ticket' for some. Especially the oil cart is seriously potent this way.
I haven't played much with it. After we get caught up ill start trying stuff out more.
A little background here might be useful? Help folks that are interested understand a little more of what happens 'behind the curtain'?
The rub with higher voltage is wire size, physical size. When I asked Tim to make me a custom high resistance (higher voltage) cart he hit the wall at 1.2 Ohms because that was all the wire (in inches) he could squeeze in the package. IIRC he took it from 8 to 13 turns before troubles hit us. To move forward the size of the wire (diameter) has to be made smaller. Then a shorter length will provide the higher resistance and we can fit it all in the space needed.
The bummer is this is not off the shelf wire. If TV was using normal heater wire they'd be fine, but this stuff is way special (as we know), basically a custom order deal. They have a spool I was using yesterday that has something over a mile of wire on it. A coil needs maybe 2 or 3 inches. That's a pretty good supply, they won't need more anytime soon. But when they get serious about higher voltage carts (and I hope it's soon, I want more than 1.2 Ohms.....) I bet they have to go through the whole exercise again with a smaller gauge wire? Then for mere money and waiting the'll pony up the bucks for several lifetime's worth of it on a spool smaller than a soccer ball.......
Tim and I tried 'bifillar wind' (two or 3 parallel runs in the same space) using the smaller wire they have from their prior products (two sizes, LOTS of it left....) but that didn't allow us to connect the ends as designed. My guess is the base (threaded part) might have to be modified too to work with the smaller wire??? Not simple, or it'd be done. But IMO it will happen in due time.
