The Toasty Top

Well a new friend has joined my growing vape collection. I purchased this lovely Toasty Top secondhand from Vitolo.

Alan's craftsmanship shows in every beautiful detail. From the exquisite shape of the body to the knurled edges on the cap surrounding the power port, every detail is perfect. It feels so nice to hold in my hand.

The roasting tubes are just as great. My favorites are of course the wooden ones, but they're all a joy to use.

It's nice to see how the designs have changed since Alan made this vape. The Toasty Top is complex compared to the elegant simplicity of the HI. It has the star-washer type heatsink instead of the much slimmer heater cover, the roasting tubes are all multiple pieces sandwiching flat screens instead of a single piece with a basket screen, it requires a stand, and so on. But the Toasty Top isn't a clumsy device. It's complex in comparison, but every detail was clearly thought out and reasoned, and it all works beautifully. It's still as simple to use as any other log, and produces amazing results.

I will say the HI's core is certainly a step up, as the Toasty Top takes noticeably more time to heat up and offers more draw resistance. I can see why he's switched to offering TT's with the new HI cores. It also doesn't except OD roasting tubes for other vapes, like many I use with my HI and UD. But all the ID tubes work perfectly, including the NonG I got from underdog.

I found out after I had made my purchase that Alan actually has some Toasty Top's in stock, with the superior HI cores in them. Probably the better choice for any prospective buyers, but I'm happy with my older unit and the story it tells. I'll get a custom unit with some exotic wood and glass heater cover when I get THE email.

This Top is going to take its place as my bedside vape, the perfect place for a vape that doubles as a warm massage device. It will be cherished.

Thanks for posting the photo. Glad you are enjoying the TT. Some very interesting roasting tube styles.
The old style core does work better for a hand warmer than the newer style heater covers since it has more mass. You should really enjoy the newest style of heater cover.

Alan, you mentioned a wine cork roasting tube. Is there a picture anywhere?

This may be a dumb ?, but has anyone tried a honeycomb style glass screen in their HI or TT
roasting tube? Guess it might be hard to keep in place and not work well w ground material,
but I often don't grind my bud.

I got my toasty island, and got some vapors just minutes after it being plugged in. The second bowl about half hour later was real today. Learned to pull back some on the stem to control the heat. Also touched the ss heater cover art the top of the unit. Ouch! Ha-ha

I have made some improvements to the wine cork roasting tube. Here are some of my latest tubes that use a wine cork. I am using two basket screens to capture the material so that no stirring is required and nothing can fall out when the tube is upside down.

The one on the left has an 18mm M2M cork sleeve over a 14mm GonG tube. It works well in a Milaana & LSV in addition to the UD and nano logs.

The one in the middle is tapered less on one end so that it will work in the Milaana (and LSV) in addition to the other log vapes. The glass tube goes half way into the cork sleeve. The wooden tube is machined with a section that is the same diameter as the glass tube and butts up against the glass sleeve so that there is no cork material exposed to the vapor path. The wooden mouthpiece is tapered for 14mm.

The one on the right has a single 18mm tapered cork sleeve with a bamboo mouthpiece tube. It can be used in the LSV if the cork sleeve is turned around the other way. The bamboo is tapered for 14mm.

The wood and bamboo tubes can be made shorter so they fit into 18mm fittings that won't accept the longer tubes.

It might be possible to hold a honeycomb style screen between the glass and wooden/bamboo tubes. Will have to see if I can find the right size glass screens.

I have one pretty similar to the middle one and it's real nice. Wasa little hard to come apart for fear of breaking the cork, but a piece of silicone gave me a good grip. Easy cleaning, looks nice, and it fits a 14mm opening perfectly. Haven't had the chance to test with a 18mm yet.

A glass screen would be pretty cool, though.

Hi everyone! my first post here ! I am new to vaping world! wanting to conserve , better taste, hack(cough less) and simply, Enjoy my toke better im used to the bong, and from my readings, seems i need a log vape!

I have tried a friends portable vaporizer, got a cheaper model myself, I am cheap , lol, therfor i am initialized abit, know what i like and want and Volcano or anything over $150 is really out of league. I could probably build a square log vape myself if having parts or list/instructions, it would probably work, even if not turned in cylinder shape. So far ive considered building myself a mflb or a desktop dome style, but I already know i wouldnt be completely satisfied with results.

If I can find or be directed to a log vape kit or something complete for around $100 , i suppose i couldnt really complain & it would save me the headache. heck im sure a company who could build & sell them around that price would become the next best thing in this market that keeps rising. any partners? loll

But seriously, I love the work and elegance of the Toasty Top, the most visually appealing vape in my own opinion, that also serves multiple purposes. Great Craftmanship!! Very well thought of and designed it seems. perfect update to the log vape perhaps although i wouldnt know never having trying any. it is the feeling it projects though

Question, anyone know if their is any Toasty Top available for immediate purchase or if there is a waiting list on standard models as well ?

Thanks for the kind words. I am always trying to improve the design. The Toasty Top now performs like a HI since it uses the same heater cover. I no longer have any Toasty Top units available for immediate sale, so the waiting list also applies to them now.
I am putting together some more bamboo HI units that run $50 for a glass heater cover and $65 for a stainless steel heater cover which might be more in line with your budget. That doesn't include the power supply or roasting tube which are sold separately. The overall cost would be around $100 for the complete setup.

Ok, so I just want to say that I keep my Toasty Island turned on and ready to go any moment of the day. The thing is, it heats up SUPER fast. I can start getting satisfying vapor in 2 minutes. 5 minutes and it's really cooking. After that, you can burn the load with a ss tip if you're not careful. It really really really rocks at glass stems right at 12v. I personally prefer the ss tips, though...so here's the thing with Heat Island tech and ss tips...it's intense. It's strong. Deep extraction. It's great for a quick micro dose. But I've combusted with it a number of times. I find that frustrating, but I've learned as I've used it and haven't had a mishap in a long time.

All that said...I have one issue I would like help with. I bought an extension cable online and it doesn't really fit the Toasty Top very well. Does anyone have a recommendation for one that does fit nicely?

Hi @Diggy Smalls , I suspect it is a, Right Angle power adaptor extension, you are looking for ? I did a search on ebay and found a short one , perhaps you can try a search and find a long one if have not tried fleabay yet. right angle to fit the toasty top in its stand possibly.

Maybe try emailing Alan if no other suggestions so.

I knew I should have been specific. The right angle extension plug I purchased does not sit the same way the TT power adapter does. It doesn't stay in tight, and it's too big, so it doesn't rest on the stand the right way.

I have been looking at the website on these and they look fantastic. As I am new to log vapes I am a little confused what I would have to buy to get going, , may i ask how these compare to other log vapes.

Man, there's a lot in both threads with people sharing videos and talking about the vapes. As you can see people aren't really that interested in comparing vapes in an official thread. I'm not trying to be rude at all, I'm trying to be welcoming to you.

I love my Toasty Top a lot. Scroll up and you'll see I've even customized mine a little bit. It's hot. It's fast. It's uniquely shaped. It's capable of being efficient or blasting me away with giant bowls. It doesn't seem to need any recovery time between hits. But mine has Heat Island innards, which is where the magic is. He had some premade ones for sale back when I got mine. You would have to contact Alan by PM to inquire about it if you're interested. I sometimes kick myself for not getting a custom made one instead of maple, because Alan does some beautiful pieces. But I do like the simple look of mine. It's very pretty if odd looking.

Oh, buying from Alan is ala cart. YOu would need a power supply and a roasting tube at minimum.
