Early next month I think, as soon as I receive the first retail units. So when will we get the first sneak peek of this bad boy in action?![]()
Check out the tempest manual page on their website for ball options. They break it down with material density and recommended temps. Looks like stainless balls may be the best optionHi everyone, I'm a proud owner of the Tempest V1 and it's been my daily driver for the past few months. I'm really enjoying the experience.
My wife currently uses a DaVinci IQ2, but with the V2 pre-order now open, we're planning to switch her over to a Tempest as well. She occasionally uses my V1, but misses the longer sessions that electronic vapes can offer.
Since the Tempest is so customizable, I think we can tweak it to get closer to that kind of experience. In that context, what kind of balls would you recommend to extend the session feel? I was thinking the new ruby balls might help, but I’m not entirely sure.
Any suggestions?
Everytime I see this black beauty my eyes tear up 🥹Happy 420 everybody
Its 9:30pm UK time, and I'm just about to have my first session of the night.
From what I’ve gathered, it’s more of a marketing strategy to get some launch sales offering an exclusive pre-launch version. If the titanium made the performance any better, they wouldn’t only offer it for presale, it would be available as an upgrade option.
I think you're probably right. I do know though that often with titanium parts, manufacturers just don't want to make them because it's so much harder to machine than aluminum. I'm not sure if there's something about the geometry of the heat shield that makes it particularly difficult to make out of titanium and just looking at the images of it, I can't imagine anything but it's possible though. I don't know anything about his supply side but it's possible that the titanium shield is added on at cost or very near it because it's already so much more and if that's the case then I would understand not wanting to offer it even if it did stay cooler. This is a lot of "ifs" though. I'm not expecting a practical difference either. Really I'm just excited and can't stop thinking about it lol
Hi tempest friends! So for 420 I had the opportunity to go to a social event and vape out a bunch of friends. This is a rarer but important use case for me, so much so that I would keep a dedicated device ready for it. I chose to take my tempest with my wood and glass aezhenn stem instead of my TM2 because I didn't want to have to give anyone instructions beyond "don't touch the metal part, its hot". It was cool because my buddy is a mighty user and the house owner was a dab straw user so I got to show them some cutting edge dhv tech. I felt like a dhv ambassador
I have usually just packed tempest 1/4 to 1/2 loads for myself and have just done single heatups. At the party I packed around 4 bowls mostly back to back. Since I can't see the VI when the tempest is in the wand, I ended up using the wand more like a torch. I would drop the tempest in for a few seconds, then pull and check the VI and adjust as necessary. I tried to bring the VI up to the second indicator. Once I thought the vapor was a little thin so i pushed it to the third indicator and combusted.
There were a lot of variables.. sometimes there were enough folks around to just pack back to back, sometimes folks were good so i would hang onto a half toasted bowl for a bit and then try to reheat it for the next person. at times when it had cooled down more i wanted to reheat it a little more but after combusting i just kept it to the second indicator and figured that a little underextraction was better that combusting again.
How do you all handle this use case? I had never needed to reheat a single bowl or pack back to back before this. I am hoping that just reheating to the second indicator should be enough, and maybe if its still thin just heat again to the second indicator after a hit or two. What do you think?
Also, does anyone know of leatherworkers that can make a case for the wand? Duba doesn't have a wand to design around. i realize that for this use case i don't even need the mh wand stand thing. i end up just holding the wand in my hand constantly and dropping the tempest in for a few seconds at a time. I thought that if would be awesome to have a tighter fitting leather case for the wand that would provide some protection from button presses and moving the wand adapter within the head. If the wand can be run inside the case great, if not maybe the part that covers the head could flip back like a hood and play the part of the mh wand stand.
I'm a Wand user too but I have a Stunner instead of a Tempest. I think they should behave similarly though. The Stunner has no clickers or indicators of any kind so for re-heats what I like to do is to heat with the Wand while also drawing on it simultaneously (hold it up to your face as if lighting a cigar). If you do this and test the vapor density every 5sec or so you should know when it's good to go. No VI needed.Hi tempest friends! Always heat to around 2,3 on the visual indicator. If it is the first heat up 2,5. After 2-3 heat cycles change the bowl. Helix tube and wood stem for back to back bowls.Hi tempest friends! thank you! the thing is in the use case i have no idea ahead of time if the bowl is going to be finished or not.If you plan on not finishing the bowl then you would want to try to concentrate your heat towards the very tip so you get the balls hotter than the rest. I have no experience with the wand but just for example if you were using the torch, you'd focus the flame at the very tip of the device instead of somewhere down further on the cap. You'll always get some amount of conduction but from my (admittedly limited) experience with the tempest, it's better than most portable dry herb vapes for this. Basically you want to bias your heating strategy as far towards convection and as far away from conduction as possible
I will keep this in mind! I'm hoping to use the VI since it was a selling point of the tempest to me and i've never been able to use it with the wand before.I'm a Wand user too but I have a Stunner instead of a Tempest. The nice thing about having a design with an air gap between the bowl and the heater is that you can just wait for things to cool down if you ever overheat the tip. The key to not combusting is to take very light, gentle sips when re-heating. Stop immediately if you taste any scorching.
This is interesting! Normally with the wand I set it to around 510F for the first heatup which takes it to the third indicator and is good for the whole bowl. It sounds like you only go to 2.5 for the first heatup, but then do more reheats during the bowl. I've never had to do this but based on my experience yesterday this might be the superior method for serving lots of people. I will try just going to 2.5 for the first heat and then between 2-2.5 for reheats.Always heat to around 2,3 on the visual indicator. If it is the first heat up 2,5. After 2-3 heat cycles change the bowl. Helix tube and wood stem for back to back bowls.
