Discontinued The Sublimator

I just wanted to drop in and say this is still the main vape i use as my daily driver. I have taken my LSV out once (my previous DD) since then, and while it is a good vape I prefer the sub over it.

as for the temp setting on the dial. I still use mine on the same settings as to what it was when I got it on day one. on really cold/damp days I turn it up a tad, but that's only happened a couple times.

btw, if any were wondering. my arm healed up fine, but I do in fact have a sub shaped scar! (apollo and base together sized burn) still dont regret buying a sub though.

Sorry about your arm man...I told you twister was a dangerous game. :D

I have yet to burn myself with the sublimator. Very extremely cautious, but i think the reclaim piece makes the chances lowered by a lot since i don't really need to touch it lol.

You guys all make me so nervous with these burns! Time to get a Sub Glove in the making. Please use your Sublimator with extreme care.

Or we could look into the heat shields.. I bet 3D printers can do magic!

can't tell if it's old or is it something new, but i'm assuming in a way that it would look like the video i posted earlier in the forum. The holder for it looks flipping sick though

i got my sublimator the other day!

after the initial burn in (57 - 59 watts), i rolled the dial back a bit and settled in at 33 watts for the first session.

i spent about 10 mins before my first session messing around with the stock screen, trying to get it to seat so it would dump out with the load. i ended up jamming it in there, but its sitting slightly crooked, so i put a fine screen in the atomizer to catch whatever i can. guess what, first time, first bowl, the screen flipped, just like i thought it would! i was not happy especially since when the screen flipped it managed to make my stuff hit the apollo and it started to combust! my freshly cleaned glass didn't smell so nice afterwards!

i realized afterwards, that i put the screen in when the atomizer was cold, so when it heated up, it must have expanded just enough to the let the screen spin. anyways, i got the screen sorted out now, and its not an issue - until cleaning time at least! i think im going to see if i can grab some iolite screens to see if i like those better.

anyways, i turned it down to 31 watts, cleaned my tube again, and tried again. this time i got the screen jammed in properly, and proceeded to pull the biggest vape cloud i have ever seen! near the end of the pull, i was almost convinced by the whiteout in my tube that i was combusting again, but my tastebuds did not detect any combustion! it was the weirdest sensation - i had never experienced that before with any vaporizer period! so i pulled the appollo off the atomizer early, blew out a massive vape cloud! i had a glance in the atomizer, expecting to see ashes, but of course, it was toasted almost perfectly, and still had another pull left!

at that point i felt like i finally understood the defintion of sublimation! its the confused stated of mind that occurs when one is truly dumbfounded by the dichotomy between what one's eyes are seeing, whiteouts only previously attained through combustion, and what one's taste buds are experiencing, which is pure vapor!

the one and done experience does actually exist, and even more important, its attainable!

i shelled out the $ for the sublimator, with the expectation, that it would fail to live up to the hype, which would force me to resell it and the rest of my vapes, and totally give up on vaping altogether. it was a reluctant last ditch effort to get back on the vaping bandwagon i.e. if this doesn't work, nothing will.

i am happy to report that i am not going to be selling my sublimator, (not sure about the other ones yet), so i am not sure if i am going to call it the vapeing or sublimating bandwagon, but whatever it is, ill be riding it till the end of the line!

Welcome aboard! You have made a wise purchase my friend. I know I definitely did. Been subbin' every time I get off from work. What a nice way to end and not to mention start the day with.

i would like to get the PV adaptor but i want to see a pic of it first. its tough buying stuff online that you can't see and hold in your hand, but you can see 100 pics of. it has led to some disappointing purchases on my part. so i am not comfortable buying something for 80 that i haven't even seen 1 pic of yet.
has anyone pulled the trigger on it yet?

thanks, i got no regrets (i haven't burned myself yet either though! hahaha).

I made a spreadsheet to help you find the most cost efficient way to make your own Sublimator kit.

IgkLGpV.png

Some Notes:
  • This is in early early .01 alpha stage. I left every cell and sheet open and unlocked so people can tinker, I'm open to suggestions on how to improve this as I work on it.
  • I made this spreadsheet based on prices found on PlanetVape.ca
  • Most of the values are pulled from Sheet 2
  • Changing the number in Column B on Sheet 3 (first sheet) will change which parts you're looking to pick up and therefore change which kit is the best value as a starting point.
  • Currently only quantities of 0 and 1 are supported
  • The Tube Cap quantity is linked to the Base quantity. The price of the Tube Cap is extrapolated from the price of the Base Launcher Tube Kit.
  • If you change the value in B25 to TRUE it will drop the price of the UFO down to 0 in electric kits per the Sublimator promo that runs until Oct 20th
  • The values in column O rows 21, 22, and 24 are the lowest priced options from those rows. So the kit in O24 is the lowest priced kit to buy as a starting point.
  • There are a lot of half finished and half-baked ideas floating around in this spreadsheet, I'll remove them once I figure out which direction I'll be taking.
There is a lot left to fix and clean up before this is worthy of public use. In my tests the results for the lowest priced kit to buy (and which items to buy individually) from any combination of Sublimator parts has been correct, but feel free to verify on your own. I take no responsibility if you purchase $1,500 worth of Sublimator screens instead of an actual kit.

I'm open to collaboration if anybody thinks they have a better method.

Here is how I'll be phasing this:
  • Alpha: Works as long as you follow the strict set of rules outlined, wont be pretty.
  • Beta: Works but all of the math and cells will be open for editing, you can still screw everything up if you don't know what you're doing
  • Release: You'll have a list of options for building a kit, it'll output the kit to buy as well as which individual items to add to it. It may show the price of total saved over retail. I'll also include pictures and descriptions of each individual component.

You can download the spreadsheet from:
Build-A-Sub alpha1.xlsx (17 KB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!Mw1jzKbQ!LPXoaCY_FH2BGXeMNkNVNmpfno5Jlsk6sW3bT1neqMA

More progress on the spreadsheet. This time its online!

Play around with it and let me know what you guys think, please be mindful of others and don't trash the unlocked cells.

@notmyrealUSERname Here is a quote from planetvape for a pic of the reclaimer in the sponsor section of the forum.
SubBuddy Reclaimer
Also posted in the Sublimator thread: First models are only for 90 degree water tools and are available with either 18mm or 14mm joints. The catch jars on all are 18mm. We wanted to include a keck clip with each one, but the only ones we have are too expensive, Schott brand, to include for free. Any suggestions on high quality, low cost keck clips?

Pricing is still TBD, but anticipating 74.95, there is a lot of labor in each one plus 6 joints including a specialized drip tip in each one.

Will post the product page up soon for them and will also have extra jars available.

Yes, we will have more by Friday, waiting on o-rings to arrive that get included for free.

my serious branding happened by accident. I had moved the sub off the coffee table and onto the table that was holding the lamp at the end of the couch.

I had not used the sub in about an hour and forgot it was back there. then while laying down on the couch i stretched out. that's when it happened. at the end of my stretch i rested my arm against the sub. the 2nd time it was due to user error on letting the handle become wobbly from not cleaning the space between the atomizer and the bowl part. whilt taking the stem out of my bong to clear it it stuttered and the heater fell off into my arm again. that burn was really minor.

If you're iffy about the SubBuddy, I'd suggest getting an OilSlick Pad first. Just glide the stem across it when it starts producing oil, and then you can scrape and dab right away.

Build-a-Sub Spreadsheet Beta 2!

This spreadsheet will allow you to choose exactly which Sublimator parts you're looking to buy and propose the proper kit(s) to maximize your savings.

Please remember to be respectful of other people and not trash the unlocked cells.

Whats new?
  • Hopefully the output statement will be grammatically correct in every possible instance. If you notice any combinations that add any extra words or punctuation that doesn't belong to the output please let me know.
  • No longer allow users to create obscene combinations without getting a warning.
Known Issues:
  • You won't receive a warning if you create a kit with a heating element but without an Atomizer. In some cases it will be less expensive than the pre-made kits which include an Atomizer. In those instances, you won't be prompted to purchase one. Remember, you NEED an Atomizer for the Sublimator to work.
  • If you don't choose a UFO but get one included for free (part of the promo) its value won't be calculated into your total savings.

I have been debating getting a sputnik with my apollo slowly dropping, but I will probably wait until all the Ti versions come out before deciding. Especially because a Ti sputnik will heat up significantly faster than the stainless.

Has anyone tried the ufo and apollo, and can give a comparison?

@NinjaMindTriks thanks for the pic, i have read every page of the sub thread, but i haven't read the whole pv thread, i totally missed that post!

@Monsoon due to the fact i leave the sub on for extended periods, i can't remove the downstem i am currently using, so there's no way to dab the end of the atomizer on a pad, i need a reclaim buddy, then i wont have to worry about needing a pad or my downstem cracking!

i got a sputnik, and the the apollo, but the apollo is just such an ass kicker i haven't been able to mess around with the sputnik yet.

i expect that it will produce the exact same results as the apollo, the trick will be learning how to read how much heat its holding - is it too hot, or cold? i just can't afford to be experimenting with my vaporizables yet, so its sitting on the shelf.

Here's a quote from my FAQs
Q: My sublimator's atomizer is always stuck in a glass piece when i'm using it, and i cannot take it off. How can i take it out the atomizer properly?

A: We suggest that if you want to take out a heated atomizer out of a glass joint, you must wait for the atomizer to cool down. When heat is added to metal and plastic, it basically expands, which secures a nice suction. However, if you want to take out the atomizer, I'd suggest getting a Glass on Glass adapter as the plastic teflon will secure onto it, and not into your glass piece. Glass does not expand at the temperature that the sublimator is running at. Sublimator recommends to purchase this extra adapter to protect the teflon from stress, to prevent people from trying to pull it out while secured.

You don't need a temp gun with the Sputnik..that's the fun! You get a tech down and it works perfect every time! It's not scared of that torch flame! It loves it! I say heat it up till you combust to know it limits. I can go from Brown pucks of ABV coming out, to nice lightly toasted sessions with amazingly clean highs. I love my Sputnik, and it's great on the road..

Thanks for some info, I was thinking of getting the Sputnik so I can hike and sublimate for a couple hours lol. I saw the video Enrico posted of him and al on the beach, and it looks really convenient. Time to get my own.
