Discontinued The Sublimator

The first time I read your experience regarding combusting I was going to make a comment but then ultimately didn't.

I was going to say, I don't think that leaving it on for an extended period had anything to do with combusting - because speaking from experience, I haven't had duration impact the overall temperature.

i.e: after about half an hour, the sublimator is as hot as it's going to be whether you leave it on for just that half an hour period, or two weeks.

That's not been my experience at all...

I have marked my sweet spot on the temp dial, and I have to back it off just a bit after it's been on for a while, about 2mm or the with of the mark to get the same extraction I was getting the first hour or three. It's quite consistent, and I had it backed off like that when I left it on all night, as I said in that post.

Fuck Combustion!:puke:

Does your wall circuit share a load with anything else? Your current might be fluctuating like mine does when we turn on the window AC. I leave mine running 24/7 for over a month now and don't' get any combustion. The wattage meter will jump between 32-37watts at any given time through the day as the AC turns on and off.

Could it also be that you marked your sweet spot before it had completely heated? just troubleshooting here...

I had to back the heat down on mine...but then I figured out it was because my herb was much drier than usual.

I find that the 'sweet spot' is actually quite a wide range... From about 25W to 30W at least for flowers...

So even with fluctuation, it's pretty hard to actually have anything combust.

All I can say is that my material has been consistent throughout my experience with my sub, and these results have been absolutely consistent no matter what else is running on the circuit or not. I noticed it on the 2nd or 3rd day but as I said the only time I combusted was when it was left on all night and I tried to w&b the next morning.

But I will utilize my kaw with my sub later today for the first time, and see if that sheds any light on the matter.

grokit...I had that experience as well at first. One time I came back a few hours later and it was significantly hotter than when I left it. I decided I must have turned the dial a little without knowing it, because I haven't had it happen again since.

Good news everyone. My sub just came in the mail and I'm heating it up for initial burn off. Should be subbin it in about an hour or so :D
How hard is it to operate without a kill-a-watt
?
I should probably go out and grab one....

I was able to find the sweet spot pretty easily, and have been using it successfully without the kaw the whole time. I used liquid paper to mark the dial for reference and it hasn't changed.

Nice, I couldnt find Kill-a-Watts anywhere local in Canada so I just went ahead and ripped it.
Wow. 1 budder dab, and one 1 hit bowl with about 0.1. I'm impressed :D
Very dark brown AVB but no combustion. I will experiment and find my sweet spot soon

The high is so intense...

Yeah.

I'm getting skablamaged over here. First session of the day was two bowls (one modest scoop each) and that was all she wrote for a couple hours. I just went up for the second session and did three bowls...wooofuckinwhoooo!!

I'm feeling shit I haven't felt since college...off flowers. I think I've found my sweet spot and I love this vape's signature. And it's not taking much weed to get there. I'm just going 'til I'm done because I'm not afraid I'll burn through my stash...once you're dialed in it is quite efficient!

Me likey!!

does anyone have a solution for the awful screeching sound:o when placing the heater down on its stand? good aim?:)
and do I have to wait 10 minutes between each bowl if im removing the heater/bowl for a minute or two while emptying it?

No and No. (So first "No" bad ... 2nd "No" good :))

Back from vacation this evening ... and gotta' say ... first hit since around 4 when I had a bit of concentrate through my TV Dart (although I have had some tinctures as well ...) ... and I'm pretty damn high! (which is really unusual for me, but nice!) Last time I used my Sublimator was right before I left for vacation around a week and a half ago and first thing I've used since I got back (My Cloud is setup at the cottage now and I'm at home, otherwise would have been a tough decision!)

Been using my MiniVAP with a CRZ Zapubbler (little 14mm hydratube by makers of the CRZ) as well as my TV Dart with concentrates (Barcelona Sour Wax) when discretion was required and its been a good week but nice to be back to my comfortable home setup :)

I have found that you can do two hits back to back, but the abv gets a little lighter on the third one so it's best to pause for a minute or two every couple of hits if there's a group. Or I suppose that would be an opportune occasion to load big and stir, but the quality varies quite a bit that way from person to person. No different than passing a combustion bowl I suppose, but I would rather each person get fully sublimated.

You've got some excellent gears to choose from! Your MiniVAP with a CRZ Zapubbler sounds interesting, do you have a pic to link to? Off topic but I've been having portable issues lately.

Anyways I'm sure that would be awful to have had to choose, good thing the cloud was in a different zip code :D

I would venture that it depends how long you leave the heater off the bowl ... I would say that the heater only leaves the bowl for 15-20 seconds most of the time for me to tap out the bowl and give it a quick wipe and place it back in the bong and sit the heater back on it ... so by the time I've grinded the next bowl if I want to do them back to back (ie. 30 seconds later), it's good to go .... I would venture I could do this a good 5-10 times no problem without the temperature dropping any significant amount if at all (I guess I'd have to test to be sure ... however, the only evidence I have so far is that my bowl/atomizer do not seem to cool at all ... ever ... when I'm running it 24/7 ... seems to just stay damn hot :))

So you're a grind-n-go kind of vapester eh?

I just dip my dash (launchpad) or my hint (blaze) spoon into material that I have recently ground. You're more like a coffee connoisseur, no grinding until right before consumption! My (matching silver) grinder holds 4-8 hits easy depending on which size dose I take so that's how I roll. Figuratively of course!

After 2 weeks I finally popped the screen and cleaned underneath since it seemed clogged. I had been dunking the whole thing in ISO but it doesn't really clean out the part under the screen. Main issue was the screen, the top was shiny but underneath it was all caked and burnt. There was also some burnt material that was caked on the sides a bit. I gave it a good scrubbing with what I had and it's performing much better now. The screen isn't too hard to take out so I'll have to clean it more often. In 2 weeks I've put at least 1-2 ounces through it.

I've tried a bunch of things but I can't seem to unscrew the bottom tube from the atomizer. It's hard to get a grip on the tube to use the force that's needed to loosen it. It's not the end of the world but it does make cleaning and screen changing easier. Next step is to get some sort of foam grip to secure it and maybe contact PV to see if they have any ideas or at least make sure I don't void the warranty.

It's been mentioned that silicone potholder gloves are perfect for unscrewing while hot. I've resorted to using tools with rags for protection; vise grips, channel locks etc. I've taken it apart twice and the second time I used coconut oil as a kind of anti-sieze, we'll see if that helps.

I am having the same issue with the stem clogging, that's what happens with the sublimate instead of going into my launchpad, which is pretty clean. When the stem clogs the sublimate actually eats through the threads and it leaked out onto the ptfe bushing etc. So I plan to disassemble more often, I think that is key.

edit: I just moved the sub to the kaw, and my sweet spot is in the 32 watt area. I also measured the maximum it would pull and it's one of the greedier models @ 63 watts so that may account for any difference with the more efficient 45 watt max versions, is this correct # for some?

I put some teflon tape around the inner edge of the stand. I heard the shreeking noise once almost killed myself. I know the white tape doesn't look the best, but it is way better than having my ears bleed.

:o Yeah that is quite a sound the stand makes, I've just been practicing setting it down gently, and carefully because I vape in the wee hours and don't want to make too much noise.

I also decided to try the dry/tubing method, emptied my piece, stuck a bit of 1/4" tubing to the mouthpiece and have been ripping on that this morning. I like it, esp with this piece, which happens to be way too chuggy if full of water, but is a nice sturdy piece to be using dry. It handles the weight of the sub just fine. I have been enjoying the lackadaisical feel of using the tube (soft silicone- food grade) you can fill the piece with vapor and casually sip or just pull the stopper and slam it all in one hit. Not bad at all. I may not keep it this way all the time, but I am enjoying it now. The dry hits are a little harsher than I am used to, but all that contact with glass and open space cools the vapor nicely enough and I still find it really smooth compared to other dry vapor I've experienced.
