For all the FC members in the EU, The Splinter has landed at Vapefiend.

The pictures seem to me to be showing 2 different splinters.

Can anyone confirm or tell me I am mistaken?

My Splinter will be in my hands soon (6 hrs or so) and I am still not clear regarding which settings to use from a mod.

Can someone please share some settings that are easy (until I can get the @funkyjunky downloaded and set up)??

I would like to get the splinter work so the idea of these box mods and attachments becomes something good again.

What kind of mod are you using? Start out with straight wattage mode at 20-25W and work your way up from there if you need to.

@sickmafraud, I don't see what the issue is with the Splinter. Is it that in the last pic the Splinter is positioned where you can't see the 2 holes? I do see that they are offering both 2 & 4-hole ones or, rather, low & high airflow.

Ryan said in an IG stream that for VF's next pending order of Splinters & Zs they are going to sell only the 2-hole version, at least for now.

And I go between 32 & 36 watts dry & 36 - 40 watts through water.

I just got my JoyTech vtwo mini. Love it so far, but I upgraded the firmware to the Tubo. I have the tubo evic and I cant seem to replicate the interface the same.

The clock is blocking the data where you see ohms/power/temp it only goes away once I turn on cruise.

I tried turning off screen saver. Any ideas? Can I cruise control this? Also what ohms should I be running the Splinter at with Tubo software and Joytech vtwo mini?

For me, the pics at VF look like all the same (older) Splinters but now they have the updated batch which uses the shorter joint for Mouthpieces and i think the bottom corner is rounded...
They now also have the standard airflow and the high airflow version (and a pretty good comparison video between them on Instagram)

Easy settings: just use wattage mode on your mod, i use 42 Watt but this differs from mod to mod and also a bit from splinter to splinter so perhaps start lower.
And a few seconds of preheat before drawing makes a fundamental difference in Vapor production....

Yes this is correct. Current version Splinter Z has room for the 22mm joint depth while the current version Splinter will only accept a depth of 19mm.

I am sure there are good reasons for it and i really love my splinter but this makes the RBT lineup really less "accessible" or whatever the right word is, especially for us european users.

With a standard joint size and depth, getting different Mouthpieces and WPA and useing them with different Splinters / Zs would be a breaze...

Like it is now, it makes the decision to get a Z or not really more difficult. Besides that, i d love to get one of the new cooling mouthpieces but would have to search a glasblower to make a custom one for me.

Well, no, actually that's why I asked. With the Z using the 22mm female joint it is compatible with all the other RBT products except the new version of the Splinter. The original splinter and the Milaana and the Zion all use the same 22mm joint which is a US standard. The current Splinter is the only outlier with it's 19mm depth joint.
I expect to get a Z eventually and it will share its glass with my other RBT vapes...

added: I wanted to add one other thing. Any glass you got for the new Splinter should work fine on the Z or other RBT vapes. The shorter male glass will work fine with a longer joint. It is only the other direction that is a problem, you can't use longer glass male joints in shorter females...

Well, one got to admit, if Ryan had used ISO joints from the beginning then there would be strictly zero problems. As they are compatible with all other sizes.

While that is undoubtedly true Ryan obviously had his reasons why he didn't go that way. For example, the current Splinter would not have been possible at it's current size. Personally I think I would have made the Splinter longer rather than the glass shorter, but it is what it is and I am a user, not a designer so I get to buy (or not) what other people make.

The longer Z has solved that problem, and I think I see one in my future.

Q: What grade is the mesh -- 304, 316, 316L, 319, other(?) used? Presumably, they both are the same grade. Everyone surmises, but no one knows & it would be beneficial to know especially as they are playing around with ss mod. values. Case in point, the following 2 posts. Q: Assumably the deck is attached to the wood with adhesive. What type of adhesive is it & why does it become detached -- heat? Is this an ongoing possibility or did it only occur in earlier batches?

A: RBT supports only use in wattage mode. from 20 - 50 watts. TCR mode is not supported but I acknowledge that it is being used.

The high flow units can handle more wattage if higher air flow is there to handle the heat. However, anything over 50 watts is in the combustion range with any of the units. The limits are set by combustion of material more than excessive heat damaging the unit... more concerned with damaging your cannabis lol. I have tested the Splinter at 4X wattage for multiple firings at 100+ watts until smoke was rolling out of it. The test was to ensure that it did not catch fire and to see that the PEEK insulator didn't melt prematurely. The units will take pretty severe abuse with the failure modes being the wood burning and the 2-part medical grade epoxy (Loctite M-121HP) degrading and detaching from the wood. The instructions for the Splinter call for allowing to cool when hot and to not unscrew while hot. Early units had a higher number of failures as the wood was made with less precision than that of today.

Q: In your stream you mentioned that ceramic is going to be added to the deck along with the current peek plastic & that both provide strength. What exactly do they strengthen? -- heat resistancy? Is the peek & ceramic located around the neck of the brass screw or is it inside the deck?

A: The Ceramic details will emerge once they are at retailers ready for sale.

Q: When are you going to get the 19/19 VF gongs in. I assume they'll be 18 - 18mm , but will there be an 14 - 18mm version also offered?

A: Once Steph is up and running in a few weeks we should have the 19/19 adapter by then.

Q: Lastly, you said that VF was only getting the low airflow Zs in bubinga & apart from the wood choice, I assume just the low airflow Splinter, also? Now, for the US, will you continue to sell high airflow Zs if there is demand or from time to time or Limited Edition runs? And will you offer different woods on the US site?

A: VF has a small batch of Splinter Z (15) and Splinter US (20) in mostly Bubinga along with some Mi2's that just landed. Stephanie will be receiving a few Mi2s and a good number of Splinter US in various wood types. VGoodiez is stocked with a small supply now and will get more Splinter US soon. This is all the stock that is available other than a few that will go to canadian retail for the next 4-7 weeks. Next batch is 400 units to VF and a small number to US and Canada in Canary, Bubinga, Wenge and PH and will all be 2 hole. This will be the last US run and then China will cut-in.

In a recent stream, I'm pretty certain that Ryan said that of the 400 units Vapefiend contracted for, 200 are Splinters & 200 are Splinter Zs, all low/standard airflow (2-hole). He also said that he has the last of the high airflow (4-hole) Splinters & Zs. I'm assuming that these will be sold on the US website when the store reopens. So my suggestion is that anyone who wants a high airflow, grab one. I do see on the Vapefiend website that they currently do have remaining high airflow Splinters available.

Hehe I wonder if he includes me, since I have asked a few times about using the correct SS material to help make DNA Material csv file for his devices. Where he could have assisted and allowed us to get the most outa our splinter experience, instead he choose to ignore requests.


I just find it sad. The other 510 manufactures have assisting and helped by sharing this info. I felt they really wanted there customers to enjoy the best experience they can from there new devices. Where Ryan's respond was opposite he rather hide the materials and not even bothered to respond to my requests.

Guess with his past misfortunes he's become paranoid to sharing info. Please don't bash me too hard on this comment but I honestly find the whole industry comment a weak response.

When you have customers asking for assistance and the manufacture is more concerned with thief says a lot about they values of us as customers.
If anyone wanted to steal his secret SS material it doesn't cost much to have a material composition test done on sample of stainless steal.

These are my experiences and don't feel I'm bashing Ryan more just disappointed in this response. This is a subject I had to speak my mind on. My worth as they say.

Thankfully between my testing the results on splinterZ tests and by comparing to DJLSB temperature readouts for materials. I have narrowed it down where I'm 99% sure what the type SS mesh he uses. Having this info should allow me to produce a better material file for everyone.

I'm finishing some testing with the preheat options on the splinters. So should have the new splinter/splinterZ profiles up later this week.

Outa respect for Ryan I'm not going list the SS mesh material other than as splinter in the splinter/splinterZ profiles or in DNA downloads.



After reading the rest of post I have to say I'm really glad was able to acquire a 4 hole splinterZ. It's has become my DD and is getting around 70% of my home usage. Of all my different device choice's it says a lot where one gets the lions share like this is currently getting.

Also really happy to hear about the splinter being tested on much higher wattage. It takes away any worry on using 60-65 watts for the preheat setting in SplinterZ profile.

Hope didn't give wrong impression since I always have had good experiences with Ryan. Other than SS question he's always been good on responses. Between buying a couple milaana splinter and splinterZ along with a few repairs haven't had any other CS issues.

Thats kinda why I responded this way. I felt was a rather callous response to muti customer request.
I feel since I do spent bit time trying make this a better experience for the end user was a weak response.

Thing i need to remember is Ryan doesn't support TC so I shouldn't expect him to understand the importance of the correct material file for DNA mods user. It mighta be a more important issue to the end user than he see it.

So since wondering now would like to hear from other Splinter/SplinterZ user or others consider these devices.

How important is having a working TC on your splinter device? Would it affect the decision to buy this device?

I go back and forth between TC and VW with the splinter, I don't think I can settle on just using in it in one method. I love the instant thick vapor when using the VW mode but it's not ideal for water filtration where charring is a risk. However, if I'm on a dry stem TC feels more "diluted", I'll get the same amount of vapor eventually but it takes longer inhales. I love TC mode for when I joint pack .5g and ride the trigger till the cows come home, not have a care in the world with regards to combustion accidents.

I find my self switching back and forth as well. I have a custom VW curve that starts at 55w and makes it way down to to 37w it's perfect for speed bowls 2-3 fast 8-10 draws to cache a stem. I find the vapour production is quicker with less hot spotting. I mainly use temp control though as its perfect for everything else. I have a nice range on my smoant right now anywhere from 320f to 430f.
