Now that i have myself on the waiting list for a splinter, i have sorted out my 5200mah dna200 box, figure that will be enough power to last me ages, and should function as my "portable desktop" as it were.

Can't wait to hear a rough ETA on when us late comers to the list will be able to get our hands on a splinter!

So I bought a Splinter off of @Cheesequake via the FC classifieds and I've only had about a week to play with it but I'm already getting some really nice clouds and the flavour is really coming through.

I'm using an eVic Primo + ArcticFox initially running at about 40w. I preheat for 10 seconds and draw fairly hard but vary the draw speed a bit to encourage or reduce the vapor density.

My next challenge has been to figure out the TCR numbers needed for TC mode. When I'm feeling less lazy I'm also gonna flash funkyjunkies latest firmware onto the mod.

So far I've got:

TCR = 130
Coil Resistance = 0.26
P = 1850
I = 300

I don't think the above #'s are right yet though, still working on it, felt I was getting better results with the static 40w mode.

Really liking this vape, it's my first RBT based roaster. The buzz is nice, I've been hammering my VapCap through an MFLB Orbiter recently and the high comes on hard and fast. I'm usually white knuckling the first 15 mins at which point I tend the settle on the buzz I'm actually after. With the splinter I seem to be getting that buzz I'm after without the initial tense rush.

I still love my VC but the splinter is so simple and well rounded I can see it being my DD for a while. I can use it direct without the MFLB Orbiter no problem.

It's nice getting fully even, golden brown tobacco looking AVB with the Splinter. The VC tends to ever so slightly char the top of the load.

I was expecting more airflow with the splinter but it's still better than the VapCap. I'm finding it important to keep the screen clean and clear.

I also got a couple of those goose neck 510 extenders but they affect the current and heat up so I consider them a failure. Also they are cumbersome to use and its just easier to balance the mod/splinter over the water tool.

@Tuck i didnt get a waitlist number or anything, but i def got a reply to my email.
I had two reply emails, one in January 10th, another on January 13th. They contained my wait list number and a correction of the number. I had registered for the Splinter in October I think? Number in the mid 200s. Nothing from @rbt since, but I assume the waiting list is still valid.

@Other Side, I'm #38 on the list so I'm expecting my Splinter by the end of May. Can you tell us what the 1st choice of woods will be? Last I heard it was walnut or maple. I saw Ryan's instagram vid. today where he was lathing or polishing the wood & it looked like the wood he was working with was oak or walnut. Thank you.

I honestly don't know. I have not spoken to Ryan in days. He has been deep into the build and putting A LOT of hours into it. I do believe Walnut and Oak are in there but I will see what else (if any).

@Other Side, maybe Ryan or you could post a pic of what the wood selection will be so I can see the difference between woods like oak & walnut. He could send it to you to upload. Thank you.
Summer he has some walnut done that will be offered to the wait list here soon. He made about 10 Oak as well but pretty sure there are plans for those elsewhere. Maybe a couple maple too. The rest of the wait list will probably all get offered walnut (possibility of a few others but not 100%). Exotics will be looked at after the wait list clears.

I'll take Walnut #36

Goddamn im excited about trying out a splinter. Good thing i love me some walnut! It'l match my SBJr!

I imagine iv got some ridiculously large number on the waitlist though *sigh* at least it gives me some time to finanically recover from the amount of VAS i've suffered recentely.

Hey guys,

Thought I'd update you on my TCR trials.

I'm using an eVic Primo + ArcticFox.

I started the week out with the following:

TCR = 130
Coil Resistance = 0.26
P = 1850
I = 300
Temp = 240°c

I knew that didn't seem right, the temp is way to high. I want to get good flavour and a good cloud when pushing 190°

Still experimenting with settings. I have tried a few things TC SS, TCR 185, power mode. They all work very well, but liking TCR 185. Might reduce the TCR to 150. 185 is a little hot.

I found 130 way to low, I gave your settings a try and it was much better, so thank you for that.

I've now been edging up the TCR over the last week and the coil resistance rest to 0.275 when I reseated the splinter on the 510 connection.

I'm now running with:

TCR = 175
Coil R = 0.275
P = 1850
I = 300

I get a nice cloud on the first toke of a fresh bowl at 190°c. Not bad flavour but the next fresh bowl I'll drop the temp a bit and step back up towards the 190-195 mark.

First toke, medium slow 10 second draw:

ABV Left, fresh to the right for comparison. Sorry for the low quality lighting.

Second toke, medium slow draw 12 second draw:

As you can see the Splinter is rotating my reality 90°. I can't risk a 180° so no third hit. :whoa:

I'm loving this thing.

Second rip gave a nice cloud, verging on the popcorn flavour but not unpleasant.

One more note for the record, I'm placing my loaded basket about 2-3mm beyond the rim of the GonG joint.
