Is there a recommended box mod to use? I just ordered a splinter and need to get the mod as well, but the selection of mods is a little overwhelming...
I’m new to this, but I think it would depend on how you’re going to use it. If just wattage mode then any should do. But if you’re going to use TCR then I’ll let someone else answer that lol.
I like to keep it simple, so I currently run my splinter at 40w and just use it like a Milaana with feathering and draw speed.
using a pico now, but torn between a gen 3 dual and paranormal for a future mod. Dual for size and paranormal for looks. Not sure what I want more yet
I've been recommending the rxg3d for Splinter and Splinter Z use for a while now and it's still my first choice.
The DNA mods are nice and the DNAc mods are the most even roasting when your TC is dialed in. If I wasn't too skeeved out to go to my urban post office I'd consider selling some of mine regardless, partly because I have a bunch and partly because the ergos and simpler interface of standard TC mods is still a winning combo.
I must add that while the rxg3d is still the smallest and best fitting two cell budget TC mod I couldn't be happier with the Wismec Sinuous Ravage that I got last month. It's chunkier and taller than the rxg3d but Red Panda installs easily and performs really well with a V2 or ZV2. The ZV2 pairing is a few centimeters taller than the same mod on an rxg3d but the first hit performance is stellar and the Red Panda menu is cleaner than Frank's Theme on a color DNA.
Just to over explain that last point: with DNAc mods you need to use the up and down buttons to select the temp or wattage field before you can make adjustments. With either of the Wismec mods or even a non-color DNA you can just hit the up and down buttons whenever because there's no middle "enter" button like the DNAc mods use.
Update: I busted out one of my DNAc ZV2 setups and, while it takes more coaxing to heat up, the flavor and vapor quality are indeed better than the same Z on my favorite wismec TC mods. It's reminiscent of the difference between the Splinter and the Z where the one that's a bit slower to get going has the edge. Enough Z talk on the Splinter thread though. That cheap vaping deals site had a two cell DNA250C called the Odin that looked like a good option if you're feeling spendy.
