I have another noob question. Why are Lost Vape mods more expensive than the rest? Even compared to other DNA mods, its pricier. I have a Reuleaux DNA250 on the way...that will work just as well as the paranormal right? TIA.
My guess would be the age of the devices. Many of the cheaper ones, like the RX DNA250 and the HCigar VT75D are discontinued models that haven't been made in years, so they are old stock and get discounted more. The newer devices still being made are sold for closer to their list price. Also the Chinese vendors like AE tend to sell at very low margins due to the volume they sell.

And again, this is just an opinion, but I personally would not buy anything used that uses 18650s. That may be just me, but the amount you may save isn't enough to be worth any additional risk with these batteries. For me.

I'm guessing you spent a bit less than the $125 listing price I saw then.

I can't personally vouch for this site, but I found the link on another site people on reddit had posted about a sale on Paranormals:
https://www.gearbest.com/temperature-control-mods/pp_1709473.html?wid=1433363&lkid=11097067

I saw the same but after digging around, that retailer has a bad track record regarding shipping. Not worth the savings to deal with the hassle IMO.

That makes sense. I'm totally new to mods. I have one on the way but won't even have a vape to mount for a little while since its only a preorder. I agree on used mods...I personally wouldn't want to risk it.

So I already purchased batteries. Got Samsung 30Q 18650 Battery 3000mAh INR18650-30Q Rechargeable Flat Top. I had no idea that I needed to get specific batteries for this mod. TIA.

30Q are fine, this is what I use in mine, the door doesn't close quiiiite all the way, but its basically flush with some slight rocking. I didn't even notice that at first so its negligible in my experience, I just leave them in the mod too, now that they've been charged externally the first two times. Battery lasts a very long time and with so many other vapes I hardly need to charge. The mod works well for simple TC with my V2, though I actually used Herbie's old Z profile with it...

Sorry didn't mean worry the you on the batteries just saying if you hadn't already ordered the LGHG2 fit perfect.

Thanks for explaining the difference, yes it's nothing that effect anything. Using the Samsung mine had little rocking of door with the LGHG2 it's gone. I probably just notice it more due to my hand issue.
Plus it's more one of those thing you notice when it's no longer there. If that make sense.
Just wanted point it out if hadn't already bought the batteries.

I use the LE HG2s and the Samsung 30Qs and I have one pair left of the LE HE4s. Been buying the 30Qs most recently and I was worried about reports they didn't fit well in the VT75D before I got it, but my VT must be a later one and they fit fine.

I got dragged into the mods kicking and screaming, but once you decide on one and start using it and experimenting it's not that big a deal really. The biggest problem I think will be not feeling like I need more of them. I have 2 now and I'm stopping there. Unless I get another Splinter...

So I love flavor chasinng low temps, and I actually rarely start that low. If you do, that is an example of where you might benefit from a little more preheat, it will naturally temp step hit after hit a bit, but you can try doing that at 30 and above too. Even with the ability to control power with the watts, it is still a pretty manual experience, so comparing it to a temp control session vape like the crafty can be a bit misleading. You could even start at 40 watts and just don't hold the button too long. Hang in there and I'm sure you'll find the range and usage style that gives you what you are after

What is the "best practice" for this vape using the Gen3? Should you preheat? Is preheating simply holding the fire button for the first 5 seconds and drawing the last 10?

Are watt adjustments the most ideal way to use this mod and vape together or is there a more efficient way?

If someone were brand new to the Wismec Gen3 and Splinter v2 and wanted the best first user experience or you were trying to impress some friends, what would your setup be and usage look like? Would it be watt adjustments, temperature control, would you change coil settings, ohms, preheat....?

I just feel like I'm still missing something and don't have it dialed in correctly. It is totally different from my Crafty and probably not fair to compare a session style vape to an on demand vape but it's my only point of reference and I think I have been spoiled with the Crafty...I'm hoping once I get things perfected with the Splinter I'll have a new fave.

I wanted to clarify this a little. It's not a big deal to get them to work decently. Getting them to work really well may take more time and effort. I DO find that I get better and more controllable performance out of the DNA mod.

First try medium fine ground full basket, lightly tamped down (voice to text made that Leslie Campbell btw). Then set it to 35 watts hold down the button for a couple seconds before you start drawing and draw slow and steady breathing in until the 15s cutoff. Repeat if you can, you will see how it is starting to heat soak. That should give you a sense that you can build off of? Just a first idea

@cybrguy, what's your opinion of the LG HE4? And how does it compare to the LG HG2 in performance? And are they the same length?

It work fine with the FCSHARE DNA250 download. File is based on the Reuleaux DNA250 mod. A lot of us use this same mod.

The DNA250 doesn't offer all the bell and whistles of newer the DNAc chips. Performance is still excellent on it.

One thing is the batteries the LG HG2 are what I recommend with this mod. Other brand are a tad wider and battery door doesn't always sit flush with some. The custom battery file also based on this brand. If haven't purchased batteries keep this in mind.

Just checked mine I bought it last June and it has 14,696 puffs on it. Really not much to complain about with this guy.

That's how it was for me. My rxg3d is set to TC 185, .24ohms, 36W temp stepping from 350-390°. Those settings should probably all be a bit lower and I'd run it through a wider range of temps but I love the way it performs with this config and the XL8R. Fun in wattage too.

Thanks for the clarification. I can be OCD about things shaking and rattling so its good to know how to solve that.

what's your opinion of the LG HE4
The HE4s were what Ryan recommended for the Zion during development and I had a couple pairs from then. I bought another pair at some point but I mostly used them in the Zions. Starting with Milaana I started using HG2s and liked them a little better. Starting about that time I also just started using whatever @KeroZen was recommending because he had a much better understanding of them and gave advice.
For the most part lately for the mods I have been getting 30Qs, but I like the HG2s also. I don't think the HE4s perform quite as well but if it was all I had I could deal. The pair I have left is the oldest pair I am still using.
Actually it seems like when the batteries start to decline it is operating time rather than performance but I haven't done any testing. I bet I know who has... :)

The HE4's we got with our Zions are past their end of life by now. I pushed one of mine so far it can't even finish a charging cycle. It rests at 3.8V and drops below 3V as soon as I apply any power... completely useless and borderline unsafe!

But brand new they should have more punch than the HG2, with less capacity.

See? You should ask people who know what they are talking about. On this subject I follow others recommendations.

That last pair of HE4s I am using I picked up about the time my Final Zion arrived so I think they are OK. The others have been recycled.

Forgive my ignorance - box mods are something I’ve never used or purchased despite being a vape enthusiast.

I see the Splinter V2 posted for around $90 for various 420 deals, so I think now would be a good time to try it out.

My question is - I have $50 to a box mod site but I’m not sure which cheap mod would be the best, safest, or most reliable.

From reading over this thread I’ve been trying to find ones listed that I’ve seen on here - so far I’ve found:

Smoant Battlestar mini 80w - $26
Eleaf Istick Pico 70w -$30 (I’d also purchase the heat sink as previously noted in the thread)
Tesla WYE 85w - $35
Wismec Luxotic Surface 80w - $45
Asmodus Colossal 80w - $55

Any advice would be much appreciated. I’d feel much more secure knowing someone knowledgeable from FC recommended a mod! Thanks!

I would suggest looking more at software that they run. If only using it in wattage the mod choice isn't as important. If using TC mode something that runs Arctic Fox FJ software or sur_myevic would be my suggestion.

Reading this thread, it seems like most people using the Splinter do so in wattage mode between 20-40w - is that accurate or is TC mode better for the Splinter? Thanks again, seriously helpful for a mod noob like me.

No they are designed for wattage mode so that is the simplest, and you can just pick any mod you like. I say go form factor over software personally (and check out Wismec Reuleaux Gen3Dual / Sinuous P80 for dual/single batt options)

cool... 6 bux isn't too bad until I can grab a used DNA mod. Missed out on a couple Lost Vape Paranormal/Therions already for as low as $80... gotta be quick!

Heatsinks are available from Chine (Fasttech, Aliexpress, etc.) for about $2.50

The difference between a paranormal and my dna250 is a bit higher. I cant find any paranormal in stock at a reasonable price.

As recently as yesterday you could get a Paranormal from Aliexpress for about $107, no longer.

Fastech has them listed for $117. (I snoozed and I loose).

The Thinkvape Finder is available for under $100 on Aliexpress. I have a Finder and a Triade and they work the same and I see no reason to spend more on a Triade (or a paranormal).

EDIT TO ADD:

Anyone looking to pick up a DNA mod could consider the LostVape Paranormal (DNA250C) can be found on Fasttech for about $115. However, there is a code for 4/18 that gets a 15% discount (BUNNY) so the Paranormal was under $100.

Yep... $99.41 out the door. Very tempting... you can actually see the style of the model you're getting unlike some sites, also... which is nice. Hmmmmmmmmmm

About what I paid for it from SourceMore, which has been in “label created” limbo with NL Post for about a week.

I see same price for the Triade. Any reasons for one over the other? Is the footprint on the Triade much bigger than Paranormal? TIA.

EDIT: Reviews of this retailer seem to be very mixed with most of the complaints revolving around delivery time. Any need for concern?
