HAL is a StarChild
Bryce Canyon, Utah. The unusual pattern was created by atmospheric gravity waves, ripples of alternating air pressure that can grow with height as the air thins, in this case about 90 kilometers up. The colors are not from aurora, they are from a phenomena known as airglow and caused by chemiluminescence, the production of light in a chemical reaction. More typically seen near the horizon, airglow keeps the night sky from ever being completely dark.

Not sure if US news is covering this. But there are massive protests in Türkiye after Erdogan put his main rival in prison. One of the protestors made an interesting fashion choice:
