Well, the future is now -- man is now at the cusp of starting to be replaced. Whole food having automated supermarkets. Remember years ago when you entered a restricted or paid parking area, like at a hospital, there were men manning booths to assist you. And remember how surprising it was when they were replaced with those railroad arms.

*Watch the video, starts off so cool.

I refuse to use the self-checkout even though they try to make it so easy. I had the self-check supervisor literally pull my cart to the work-for-the-store-for-free area and ring up the first item from my cart on the scanner then look to me. "You're not done yet." I told her.

"This is self-checkout." she replied.

"So, if I want to have a cashier check me out I have to go over there in that line?" (Pointing to the line I was in when she pulled me over.)

"Yes."

"Why did you pull me over here?"

"I wanted to show you how easy it was."

"You know what else is easy? Me walking out." Which I did. Leaving my cart filled with items in the self-check.

I, for one, do not welcome our robot overlords and refuse to cooperate. I know it will only buy a little time.

I had and still have ... friends and family that work in casinos. One was a runner for slots. If someone hit big or needed assistance he would run over and provide support. Some of the other casinos had installed new slot machines that paid out in "tickets" instead of coins, eliminated the need for much of the human support and were firing the majority of the slot runners. The slot runner I know was offered a floor management position and declined because the tips from the big winners paid so much more and because he loved schmoozing with the customers. Many months later when his casino installed the new slots he was let go and because so many floor runners were already let go he couldn't find a decent job for a long while.

You can fight technology but when the writing is on the wall you probably should take the time to read it.

Funny. I prefer self check out.
If there’s an empty register with aomeone waiting behind it and a self check-out, then I’ll b-line for the self check out.

I prefer to bag my stuff the way I want it bagged. Plus, don’t have to deal with people. That’s always a positive thing.
