I've sometimes been frustrated by the rule in the Picture Thread that requires a picture to make a post. Sometimes a picture provokes a thought or a question that I'd like to pursue.
Back in the days before the web, USENET was a popular way to post pictures. In order not to clog up the picture-posting newsgroup, they often came in pairs: one for the pics, and another for discussions—hence this thread.
I suggest that when you want to comment on something, you use the +Quote button and then use the Insert Quotes button here so that we can tell which picture you're discussing.
You can also use Reply in the picture thread and then cut&paste the quote here although that's more awkward. That's not a rule, but if you don't do something like that it will start to get confusing. I do ask that you make your comment something more substantial than "Cool pic!" because that's what the Like button is for.
