I had a special package waiting for me today, so I figured I'd give you guys a few tidbits of my initial thoughts. I’ll update later with more details and I’d like to get a full detailed review done sometime this weekend, and if it’s okay with Dan, post it here on the forum and/or on a personal site I’m working on.
On to the Okin...
First off, excellent work from Dan. The box looks beautiful and the card was a nice touch. The box and the Okin are wonderfully crafted and you can tell some time was put into building them (of course if you’ve been watching this thread you already knew that.) One surprising realization I did have upon holding it was how small and light it is. My brain had tricked me into thinking it was much larger than it really was from the pictures but I was pleasantly surprised. The small size and sturdy box has me thinking that in the future I wouldn’t mind tossing this in my pocket or a bag while walking around or traveling. Although, I’ll be babying it initially and for a few months to come.
Startup took a little bit, even though I had already read the instructions twice earlier in the day, and had them open while I was preparing the Okin. There is a learning curve, drilling the charcoal took some time, and I also had some trouble lighting it with a normal lighter. I was forewarned of that but didn’t have one available. It's definitely a worthwhile investment though so I’ll probably pick one up at some point. I’ll also start pre-drilling a few charcoals to speed up the process. Once lit, It did go out on me a few times, but that may have been because I was too busy admiring it and showing it off. Between relights I was able to get some pretty decent hits from this which surprised me because of it’s small size. Looking forward to mastering this bad boy. Overall not too bad, and I’m sure prep time will get faster as I get more comfortable with the Okin.
Final thoughts:
Sturdy and well built, but I won’t be tossing it around just yet.
A Torch lighter will be a good investment.
Steep learning curve, but I’m excited to see how it performs when I’m more comfortable with it.
Don’t know if it’s something I’ll be passing around a circle with friends. I did let my roommate try it, but I think it may be better as a solo vape.
That’s all I got for now, I’m sure my opinions and thoughts about it will shift around over the next couple weeks/months but these are some of my initial impressions. Feel free to ask any questions, some of them I may not be able to answer yet, but I'll be getting to know it better after some time.
