The Nomad From Morwood

The Nomad is great for microdosing. I only vape in the evening and I try to keep my tolerance as low as possible. I weigh my herb and throw about 0.1g in my Nomad and it lasts me quite a while, sometimes the entire evening. When I used other, less efficient vapes, I would end up going through nearly 0.25g for the same level of high and duration.

Still going full-time getting out the last of them, shipping notices going out very soon. They absolutely must all go out this month. Please reach out via email if you'd like an update at any time, I keep a good eye on my email. The work involved in sending these out has been all-consuming lately, and I'm sorry I don't update as often as I probably should.

@letter never sent, A great way to test your batteries is to load one up into your unit, take the stem out, and find a dark room.. Look down the stem hole at the mesh screen, press the button and time the seconds between button press and when you can just barely start to see the heater start to glow behind the mesh. Stop heating when you see the faintest dull red color, no need to go beyond that.

If everything is working perfectly, you should record about 9-10 seconds with the high heater. If it's more like 15 seconds, your batteries are weak, or the electrical connections need a quick clean. 99% of the time it's the electrical connection between the heater module and the brass ring. To clean this connection, start with a quick wipe down in that area with the white cleaning pad, focusing on the little step down on the outside of the heater module shell, clean right up into the corner. And then focus on the lip of the brass ring where it makes contact.

Sometimes after the unit sits in the shipping box for a while, it needs to be "broken in" with a bit of use. Most of the electrical connections are designed to be self cleaning with use, so.. they'll tend to clean themselves. Once they move around a bit, everything just works as intended.

I wouldn't be surprised if your 4 year old batteries are shot. Storing them unused over a long time can certainly kill them. With unregulated devices, the heater is tuned to work optimally with a healthy battery, and a dying one will certainly lower performance substantially.
Does this mean batch 3 may ensue rather shortly???!!!

I'll flat out say it. I don't believe we will see all batch 2 units ship before the end of July. It was supposed to happen at the beginning of the year, then spring, then early summer, and we are still waiting... I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I have no hope left.

I have never had that hope to begin with given its been how many years now? I'll be very surprised if many nomads are made after the current orders are done, doesn't seem like they're tenable anymore.

I had no idea back in 2019 that I would still be waiting 6 years later. The only reason I'm still hanging on at this point is because I figure it has to end at some point, but then again, I have been telling myself that for the past 4 or 5 years.

The craftsmanship certainly lives up to the hype.

That wood grain looks almost 3d, amazing.

Damn, I feel for all of you still waiting on a batch 2 Nomad, I hope you all get it soon!

Here we are at the lake today...😬

Speaking about technique: I was worried I wouldn't achieve an evenly roasted load as the herb closest to the stem roasts much slower, so I thought I might need to stir.

But about halfway through a load I will take my pinky and gently sort of pull the herb at the edges down toward the center while I lightly tamp the load down a bit.

So by the end of the session, the load is dark and even enough for me to blow it all out and forget it.

Battery Performance:

I gotta say one battery lasted my usage about a week and it was still only depleted to 3.8v.

When do you guys charge your batteries? Dan says he charges around 3.5 and I felt like performance dropped by 3.8 - could just be that I needed more preheat time.

I find more preheat time solves most issues. I've only used the low heater so far still.

Hi!

I don't think I've put it into words yet...
Your Nomad is incredible, unreal... words can't describe it!

Crazy, crazy, crazy!!

As for the battery... I often recharge after four sessions... which usually leaves me with batteries at 3.9V.
Sometimes sooner. I change and charge my batteries every night, I think... so sometimes it's more, sometimes less.

I really feel the drop in performance at 3.8V.

I wanted to quote this post from Dan, which seems very clear... and very involved... plus it includes photos...

I got new batteries and I still can't seem to brown my herb anywhere close to what @seriousTone shows above. Can you share your technique?

Have you increased the preheat time?

As our friend SeriousTone says, increasing the initial preheat time should help you find settings that work. Afterward, you can make adjustments to find the settings you like best.

Don't be afraid of heating too much... you'll have to get closer to the combustion to understand the limits of the heater and how much preheat time it works best with.

Alternatively, if you have a wooden stem, or a temporary DIY, you can always use a J-hook or a piece of glass to see the vapor condense... I think it'll help.

Otherwise, the inhalation should be slow and "deep" to allow the vapor to condense.

Very slow at first, even. Then, when you feel the heat, you can start inhaling "slowly normally."

There you go... if none of this helps... come back and tell us!

Enjoy the tests!!!
Good luck!

If your battery is new, if the connections are clean, you can play :
1° with the warm-up time. Within 1 or 2 seconds, the result will not be the same. I preheat the high heater for 6 seconds and the low heater a little longer.
2° the draught speed. Once you've set your preheat time, the other adjustment variable is the draught speed.
A longer preheat time implies a slightly faster draft..
Other detail, you need to press the button hard enough and make sure you don't release the pressure during the exercise. It happens to me sometimes and it stop the heat.
I usually release the button a few seconds before I stop vacuuming (to be sure of emptying the residual heat and all the produced vapor).

Also, I read that somes user do 2 or 3 x 10seconds preheats before to draw.
