Ok, I'm getting closer. LOVE that the device is wrapped in washi paper, such a nice little touch. The stem is SILKY smooth it's fantastic.

But I am wondering, as I've never seen this in the quick start guide or from anyone else; what is this stick used for? (@fangorn the resident expert? 🙃)

I think it's a "do-it-all tool." It's the right length and diameter for just about everything in the Nomad...

To be honest, I don't think I've ever used one!!

But you can actually install the stem screen or pop them out easily with it.

If you need to, you can also use sandpaper or paper towels around it to clean the inside of the Nomad.

And if you ever want to remove the internal shield for cleaning, then put it back on... it can help push it in.

But... I've never used one, or maybe once or twice... and maybe Dan has a special feature for that... I don't know!

I love the koa and the combination with the blackwood, it's very classy.

Bravo for the choices!
You can see the incredible shimmer too!

@seriousTone
Enjoy the moment! I understand that you are taking your time!!!

@fangorn The body is actually roasted curly maple, but yeah, the chatoyance is crazy! I love how it came out. The vape feels really wonderful in hand.

Ah, thanks for the clarification!
I have a stem of this wood (unfortunately broken)... and I was thinking it looked strangely similar 😅

In that case, I can see exactly what you have in your hands... it's just incredible!!!

Enjoy!!!

@seriousTone I believe the stick is for setting the basket screens in the glass stem. At least that’s what I used it for.
Thanks, makes sense.

Nice! It's great that Dan even sanded the do it all tool to a silky finish haha.

Pictures do not do these devices justice and videos barely do.

The fit, finish and feel are absolutely incredible. I think I was genuinely afraid of feeling anti climactic or being let down. I let my wife eventually open the washi paper and my jaw dropped upon first viewing.

The piano finish, the wood chosen, the button chosen and the FEEL, WOW! Especially once the heater and battery are in it, absolute heirloom quality masterpiece.

Thanks so much Dan, what a piece of art.

I'm 058, have also been feeling anticlimactic, but that video.... Now I'm excited.
Thanks, and your artwork is amazing.
Are you batch 3 than? If so I am sorry and you will feel that way for a long time yet until you lay eyes on your device.

What do you mean my artwork is amazing?

At lunch at the Arboretum. I can't stop holding the thing. Almost fell asleep with it last night in my right hand with my wife's in my left..

I remember years ago Dan said the device hit like a portable log vape and I shall back that statement up as that's the exact feel and taste I get using the low heater and briar burl stem. Except of course a much nicer draw that you dont have to sip like hot tea.

I feel like there’s been very little discussion around actually using this vape. Let’s talk about technique.

My first few sessions have been underwhelming. I’m using the high heater with Molicel P26As. Having a pretty hard time coaxing vapor out of this thing. Dan recommends a 3 second preheat with the high heater but it doesn’t really feel like enough. I’ve been taking 10-15 second draws. What should I try to get better results? Yes I’ve cleaned the contacts as well. The batteries are charged up to 4.20V but I will say these have been sitting around unused for around 4 years. I only kept them around for the Nomad. They saw very few charge cycles prior to that though so I would think they are still OK to use. Obviously it’s early and I know it will take some practice. I’m getting more Vapman vibes than log vape so far.

4 years for the batteries... you can think about getting fresh batteries soon.

Better yet... you could start by preheating for a longer period...
Start with 5 seconds of preheating maybe... (you'll see if you can preheat for another second or two... or if you need to preheat for 4 seconds...)

Yes, 4 years, but probably no more than 5-10 charge cycles on any of them. They saw limited use with a Tetra P80 back in 2021 and have sat in storage since. Do they degrade over time just sitting there?

Once you've found the right warm-up time, you can also reduce your inhalation speed.

(but you should only adjust one setting at a time)

And yes, batteries do degrade over time.
Four years is definitely significant. (I buy new batteries every year now....)

No, this batch. Your Nomad; it's really pretty.

They will degrade, but the degree depends in part on the voltage they were stored at; best not to store them fully charged. Could be performance will improve after a few cycles; if you have a cycling charger try that.

I went ahead and ordered new P28As... want to be sure the batteries aren't the issue here.

Has anyone else gotten shipping notices? Is Dan progressing through this batch at all beyond the units that were shipped some weeks ago? I have to admit, I'm growing a bit impatient with the lack of news in the last month...

Whilst I'm not in this batch, I get why you think this way as there's been no clarification as to who in the current batch should be expecting their device. Have you reached out to him at all?

Still going full-time getting out the last of them, shipping notices going out very soon. They absolutely must all go out this month. Please reach out via email if you'd like an update at any time, I keep a good eye on my email. The work involved in sending these out has been all-consuming lately, and I'm sorry I don't update as often as I probably should.

@letter never sent, A great way to test your batteries is to load one up into your unit, take the stem out, and find a dark room.. Look down the stem hole at the mesh screen, press the button and time the seconds between button press and when you can just barely start to see the heater start to glow behind the mesh. Stop heating when you see the faintest dull red color, no need to go beyond that.

If everything is working perfectly, you should record about 9-10 seconds with the high heater. If it's more like 15 seconds, your batteries are weak, or the electrical connections need a quick clean. 99% of the time it's the electrical connection between the heater module and the brass ring. To clean this connection, start with a quick wipe down in that area with the white cleaning pad, focusing on the little step down on the outside of the heater module shell, clean right up into the corner. And then focus on the lip of the brass ring where it makes contact.

Sometimes after the unit sits in the shipping box for a while, it needs to be "broken in" with a bit of use. Most of the electrical connections are designed to be self cleaning with use, so.. they'll tend to clean themselves. Once they move around a bit, everything just works as intended.

I wouldn't be surprised if your 4 year old batteries are shot. Storing them unused over a long time can certainly kill them. With unregulated devices, the heater is tuned to work optimally with a healthy battery, and a dying one will certainly lower performance substantially.
