Well, in a nice surprise, I was able to make it back to Vancouver briefly to pick up my Lotus before I returned to my vacation.

Haven't had a chance to try it yet (I'm dry where I am currently), but damn. It's a very nice vape. Well made, durable. Carrying case is surprisingly small but still carries everything comfortably. The grinder card thing is bigger than I thought it be but that is neither bad nor good. Just different. I like it quite a bit, especially with the sleek black sleeve it comes with.

Can't wait to load some bud into this thing!

EDIT: Ah damn. The scoop broke when I was folding it. That's no good :(

Same thing happened to me with my first scoop... No sweat though as the stem itself is the best possible scoop. It scoops nicely even from the palm of your hand and leaves little behind! :) Or you only have the WA? Not far behind as a scoop as well...
Welcome to the club mate!!! :D

Just thought I'd mention that the lighter I linked to above ^ (on ebay) has a much larger gas chamber than the regular sized honest lighter, that's why I went for those, as I already have been using the regular size honest torch and was running out of fuel more often than I am now, using the larger body torch. Everything is the same accept the tank itself which is round instead of tear drop and easily holds twice as much fluid, if not more. I also find it easier to grip when heating, since the round body fits the palm better. Other than that, it's performing on par with all the other blue flame torches I have been using. I just had to adjust the flame so it was large enough. Oh, would also like to mention Deal Extreme is a good source for low cost goods, but you might have to wait a few weeks (I know I have) for your order to be delivered, coming from china . Something to consider if you are not wanting to wait that long.

Awesome, Its one of those vapes that grows on you as your technique grows.

Congrats!!!!!

Yes it does!

I had prior experience with other flame vapes, and more difficult ones, like the Vaponic.

But still, every vape has it's technique, and as i fine tune my technique to use the Lotus, the experience improves and i enjoy it more and more. :)

So, here is how i do it, you guys can comment and add your input if you want:

1. I drop a nugg in, ungrinded.
2. I set the lighter aligned with the center, flame is ~2cm/0,78in, and the height is where the flame changes density which is the flame position where the temp is highest.
3. I fire it up and after 2sec i start hitting it, i keep at it for ~10-15sec and then i stop the flame but i continue hitting it until i feel the vapour cool down.
4. I poke the nug to break it and stir.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until herbs are dark brown.

With water everything i do the same, only difference is the hits are longer, roughly 30sec. And i also control the height of the lighter because with longer hits the usual height can prematurely kill a bowl or result in uneven roasting.
I gauge the vapor thickness to regulate the height of the flame.

As for draw speed, i find slow draws are prefered at all times. It helps to extract better, and it is much easier on the throat.... plus, the hits are thicker.

I do tend to accelerate a bit towards the end of the inhalation, habits from my genie technique, i feel it helps raise temps somehow.

So, this is how i do it!

I got one of those bulbous lighters, the "Xing" lighter. Mine barely makes a 1/2" flame on max setting and filled, but I agree that it does last pretty long and has nice ergonomics. Are you having any trouble with flame height or do you think it's just the lighter I got?

Fasttech.com has great prices for the stock Honest lighters, but also takes awhile to ship. I just got a couple of them the other day. They almost completely empty the tank, which is pretty nice. My Xing lighter stops lighting with 2-3mm of butane left in the tank.

My flame seems to turn up just fine, so I'm guessing it must be the one you got... my complaint would be that my jet stays lit a few seconds after I release the button, which I found a little alarming at first, but now I am used to it. It does it at lower settings too.

Wow...

I finally got to give my Lotus a try tonight. This thing delivers much more than I thought a portable could. It is easy to use and extremely effective. This thing is incredible. I love how it's also built like a little tank.

Tomorrow I'll be trying it out with some glass. Can't wait.

Also, I'm liking the grinding card a lot so far. It's been handy.

Dr.! Congrats for your new baby! This will definitely be a Lotus year! :D

I can already envision this thread outgrow the MFLB one, the Solo one etc... More and more people feel the Lotus magic every day and believe that this tiny, wood and metal work of art can deliver vapour to anyone's likings!
Be it low temp flavour country hits or high heat blasts, short and fast hits or prolonged ones, through the rugged aluminum pipe or a classy glass J-hook or even through all kinds of water tools, this Second Coming of the Lotus can satisfy almost every taste out there!
The Firefly is also a welcome and pricey addition to the portable, full-convection, heat-on-demand vapor club (I am getting one as well when I can afford it) and will compliment the Lotus in any vaporiser collection for those windy or silent moments or even when someone needs to hold a lady/guy with one hand while watching a movie. Each has it's strong points but I consider them brothers in function!
Things might be overall shitty worldwide but at least the vapor community will have a heck of a time this coming year!

Although i see the similarities between the two, especially in terms of hitting method and convection extraction, the main advantage of the firefly is the better taste and the silence and wind factor. BUT, i don't like the trade-off over the autonomy of the Firefly which is close to the Thermovape T1.

One of the reasons why i switched to lighter power instead of battery is autonomy, in fact, that is the main reason coupled with the better taste in a small sized unit.

The Firefly would be perfect if it had something close to 1h-1h30; but as it stands you spend more time charging it than using it.

For 250USD, and considering you can't really hide it so stealth is not a feature of the vaporizer, i don't see the point in having both especially since you need to charge constantly.

I don't think 250USD is a fair price anymore in most portables, and in many desktops. I used to... before i had the Vaponic and the Lotus, but i don't anymore.

Right now, although i see the confort of setting the temperature and vaping away, or in some units, pressing a button and vaping away, that confort is not worth 2x-5x the price.

Not anymore, not when i know when to hit, how to hit, how fast and how long.

I think 150USD is a fairer price in the majority of battery powered vaporizers, especially considering what you can get from a flame powered vaporizer that costs ~100USD or less.

And some might say, "yeah but the technology doesn't allow for such low prices which is why 250USD is a fair price"... and i'll say you are 100% correct.
But then, perhaps we should stop justifying the price and accept the fact that the confort is very expensive and the experience ends up the same or worse in terms of extraction.

Yeap, great writing!

I can see it earning a place next to the Lotus though if you need portability at home or you are at the great outdoors and the weather is harsh. Also if your tolerance is not high (and it shouldn't in any case imho) you can use it for one bowl, then just plug it in and it'll be ready in very few minutes waiting for your next session. Battery life is not a major drawback imo if you are at home next to a plug but it depends on your usage habits of course. Certainly not a party vape!

But a good compliment to the Lotus IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT… I had to put two of my favorite vapes for selling to fund it :ugh: but the Lotus has got me very spoiled with it's amazing heat-on-demand dynamic convection and I sure need a battery vape in my toolbox… Sometimes you just have to be silent… :(
Worth the price or not, it remains to be seen depending on different people's needs. :)

It sure won't be able to replace the Lotus as the Lotus will always have better autonomy, is more economic, has better heat retention and wider range of temps (even for extracts or hash), faster load extraction if you need so, it's more durable and rugged, is user serviceable and for cheap, the pipe feeling is just amazing it when holding it and can be used non stop even for the largest party of people!!! Not to mention the water tool pairing capabilities!

It's nice to have a couple of choices for different scenarios though or just in case something goes wrong.… ;)

A portable that can only be used for 30min is not a real portable, at least for my usage. When i need a portable, whether at home or outside, usually i need it for hours and certainly more than 2 sessions.

There are times when i just need a portable for 1-2 sessions or i end up almost not using it, but those are the exception.

I'm more curious about the Grasshopper now, it is small, stealth, with a good autonomy and convection based extraction judging from ABV colour. The flavour will be worse than the FF surely, but i don't think it will be worse than the PNP for example.

Great points gentlemen!!!!
I love my lotus!
Even with my home unit now being the nano, the lotus is still relevant to the scene. I switch off between the two and at times as my nano is heating up (2-5 min) I can just take a few lotus hits and come back to do a nano session as well.
I love the versatility, now I need to get an aluminum pipe and j hook, it will be my go to and as a back up to my PNP which like @vorrange stated about the FF can have a short battery life (45min approx or less).

I would like a sherlock as well, but when i want to i use my Ehle dry. Not the same, but pretty nice nonetheless and it's cool and handy to see the vapour.

I would get the aluminium first, that way you can use it on the go as well. If you're going out but you don't plan on using it outside, the Lotus is the perfect unit to bring.

Well, mine arrived in the mail today. Filled up the lighter, filled up the bowl, and gave it a shot...and got no vapor. Tried again, still no vapor. I taste bud ever so slightly but can't taste any vapor. I preheated it and took long enough draws that I had to set the Lotus down for a couple minutes because it was getting too hot. I've made 6 attempts now and still can't get anything. Followed the instructions and instructional videos to a T.
