Vaping is a way of life!
Do you pull while the mini torch is lit? Or do you heat the plate up and then draw after the torch is out?
With the lotus you pull as your heating.
My technique is to heat for a second or 2 then start to inhale and hold lighter accordingly to the center spot getting red, once I see red I pull back or pull off completely.
I usually kill the bowl in one pass, so I keep heating and pulling away according to the feedback of the plate (red or not) and according to the clouds being created in the glass tube.
I might have the older plate not sure, the new heat plate is supposed to not have the red hot spot indicator if iam correct, and easier to use overall.

Too bad this isnt a bent neck, a lotus lighter for my Lotus vape lol

I just got my lotus a few weeks ago and mine also makes a red spot when I am heating it. I also use this to determine my heat level and back off with the torch when I see it beginning to appear. Since my j hook broke I am using the lotus solely with my water bong and am roasting half full bowls in 1 or 2 hits.

So I just joined the lotus club yesterday! Have to say this thing is pretty awesome. Might even be the best vape I've owned. Very quick heatup, great taste, and huge clouds; really all you could ask for in a <$100 vape. It was also the most well-recieved vape among my friends; probably attributable to its ease of use and cloud-making prowess.

I do have one question though- is it possible to remove the stir rod? I have a piece with a dewaar joint and the stir rod won't let the lotus sit flush. Obviously I could use a dremel, but this would require ~90% of the rod to be cut off and I'm hoping for something less permanent.

Don't try to take the bowl out. It will void the warranty and you'll wreck it. It's pressed into the stem, not screwed in. Pliers and wrenches will bend the bowl. You could pull it out using a lathe or mill but it would still void the warranty. Or am I too late?
Not too late... ;) Ok, so I'll use regular cleaning (iso stem soak). And once I feel it's time I'll remove the screen.
Now it is time for a Lotus session : starting dry and adding water filtration for follower hits!
I'm also using the red spot to see when I'm too hot and playing with it to get a milk!

If you feel it's overall better than all the vapes in your sig, then that says it all! Another happy Lotus user... Haven't seen anyone unhappy so far... Is there? Welcome to the Lotus gang! :D
You'd better give @Max Jitter a message about the rod although I don't imagine it being difficult to remove with a pair of pliers. You could re-attach it with some good glue anytime I guess. :)

I have to say I have been impressed by the smoothness of the hits, while they are thick. I have been able to take the biggest vapor rips I could ever take out of some great hash with the WPA locked in my recycler. With herbs it's also nice but I did not practiced that much, I have habits with the MV (like VapeNstone says it doesn't hits like the EVO - MV is my EVO lol)

I think I need to find the perfect lighter. When I use the Lotus I mostly stop using it when the lighter is empty. And it's empty too fast.

@Max Jitter About the danish oil, it's usually 1/3 varnish, varnish that could be anything from natural based to petroleum based. That would be great to know the precise composition of the one that is used for the non colored Lotus to ensure peace of mind for the most savvy conscious users.

How is the Lotus with things other than herb? Say hash or oil?

Also, to those who own both a Lotus and a big name table-top, how does vapor compare in terms of production and effect? Most I've read is that people say it's really efficient, but I only have an EQ to bench mark good herb vape.

It's awesome for hash and with oil it works (but I prefer a nail), easier to get huge clouds than with herbs in my short experience, it doesn't risk catching fire so you can apply high heat.
Definitely the best way to enjoy hash in my experience. If you forget about the cleaning.

How about jut getting an adaptor? Like one of these? Should increase the height enough to use the Lotus without taking the stirring stick out :)

you could use another o-ring closer to the smaller tapered end (WPA) to give you more height on the WPA.
I Just acquired a dewaar joint piece and it has a removable down-stem, even thou the down-stem is mostly flush and it gives me enough clearance to fit just right.
I have also tested the lotus half way on the the WPA and it seems to still make a tight seal, but yours does seem pretty high.
The adapter would work unless you didnt' want to add to much height.
You can bend the stir stick , but then you'll have it sticking out from the side instead of pointing downward.

I can only comment on an herbalaire I had, and I think its safe to say that my lotus blew my herbalaire out the water in sheer cloud productivity, the herbailare was great but gave me more thinner lighter hits but plenty of them, and medicating at that.
I used my herbalaire for MJ, but also for lavender and damiana, so its versatile.
The lotus gives me great flavor and thats me torching the hell out of it to get the biggest hit I can, My wife on the other hand likes to lightly torch to get all that flavor first , then goes full blast to finish up the bowl.
You have seen the vids, herb & kief, and oils on a bed of flower work amazingly.
I yet to try oil by its self , but I don't see why the lotus couldn't handle oil by its self , you just need either cotton, maybe cheese cloth (ecig guys) or some type of healthstone or glass fritted disk to fit in the WPA to let oils vaporize before they seep or reach the bottom.

@Max Jitter ,Might be interesting if you could make available an oil /concentrate insert for the lotus , I can see it working way to well.
Ceramic screen or a High grade mesh , or even 5-6 screens stacked together might do the trick.
I will try to do oils by themselves as soon as I pick up more OIl, will try different methods to see if any work.

If you use high heat, ie a large red hot spot, you're going to shorten the life of the hot plate and possibly
char the wood. You'll have to decide if that's worth it. I hesitate to offer an oil option for the same reason.
I hear ya, I have only been torching till I see red and then I pull back, not bright red but at the beginning of it.
Thanks for the reply.
Do the replacement hot plates still get red in the center or is that feature removed to make device even harder to combust ( no issues here with combustion).
Thanks @Max Jitter.

With the provided Honest torch, I have yet to scorch a bowl.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like somebody would really have their foot on the gas to combust. The torch itself usually get's close to uncomfortably warm before I see a red spot. For this reason, I think it'd be a great vape to introduce to any beginner. It helps introduce the fundamentals of the thermodynamics involved in a straight forward manner to the novice. It also kind of lacks the "Black Box" factor of some of the non-pipe-like portables too which makes it a little less intimidating (at least I found it so).

I have a two jet torch on the way, so I'll have to back off even further.

I agree the single torch worked great for me, it broke on me after 2 days (LHS $5) , good thing I got a back up double torch. I just ordered 2 more torches (single flame) so these should be of quality, one being an honest.
I agree its great for beginners to get fuller understanding of how vaping works, then pass it over to a pro and let him rip away, so versatile its a great addition to anyones arsenal.

The replacement hot plates are the same as the original and should act the same way. The internals of the vapor cap are changed and have been reworked from the 1st model to the present one. That's what cuts down on the scorching and should make it harder to get a red spot on the top plate. Apparently the appearance of a red spot varies from unit to unit, but the scorch protection doesn't change.

Thank you!!!
I will add a plate to my list soon, just for back-up.
Either way I am super happy with the lotus the way it is, I do think its harder for me to get the red hot spot with the single torch, but it broke , 2 more on the way.

FWIW, my plate is no way near as beat up (not that any of them look all that terrible) as some of the ones posted on the thread.
Maybe that will change as I put more miles on it or maybe it's just that I'm easier on my equipment. As I had previously mentioned, I don't find blasting the Lotus cap to be necessary in order for it to be effective.

good choice!

welcome to the lotus-club :)

yesterday i had a lot of fun with the lotus and my new minitube, such a great setup :D still learning how to master this experience, seems like my hits have been too long, i'm getting great results with shorter hits now!
