Good to see some new converts. Yep, unground is great. Break it up a bit, take a hit or two to toast and de-carb things, flip the payload into the palm of your hand, run the bottom of the stem over it and suck it back into the bowl. Repeat as necessary. Best vape there is for a quick flower session.

Tonight I collected all the dust and honey from my j-hook and put it on a small bed of herb. Got 10 amazing pulls from that. Then I put some unground in and took 6 light super tasty pulls. Then I ground that up dumped it back in got 4 thicker pulls. I'm waaay medicated at this point. I love this vape for so many reasons. Not the least of which is the whole ritual feel of it. There is just something about how involved it is to use that just makes it fun and effective :o.

If I don't wait for a soft red glow I don't get the density of vapor I'm looking for

Same here, until I started pushing my Lotus a bit further I couldn't get very thick hits but I always was too close to combustion. Nowadays I prefer to use other vapes with glass (Omnivap with weed due to the click feature and Vapman for concentrates... go team butane!) but the Lotus has become the king of dry hits because of the amazing flavor I can get from it. Unground nugs that gets crushed after some hits. I also prefer a glass j hook (an @Oregonglassblower one) to the metal stem.

Been using my Lotus quite a bit lately to provide some variety. Nothing else I have hits as hard as the RBT vapes other than my Lotus. And its flexibility using with glass is unsurpassed. While I love it on my big pieces where it whites out chambers easily, it is also outstanding on my little ones like this handheld J-Hook.
Still the hardest hitting flame powered vape I have tried by far.

What's the deal with the high temp cap? Is it for concerntrates? Can you up grade normal cap to high temp cap? Any help would be good thanks
Here is what THEY say...

"If you like a high heat style of vaporizing or just want a totally cleanable cap, this one's for you. Designed primarily for concentrates and cooling devices, it's fully interchangeable with the standard cap. There'll be no charred wood with this guy. The cap comes with an L shaped hex wrench and spare screws for easy disassembly for cleaning.
A debris screen is installed in the cap to keep the interior clean.
To use with Concentrates: Place your concentrate on a bed of ground material or a small ball of cotton."

So, yes, for concentrates but also made to be disassemble able and to generally handle higher heat. If I needed to replace my cap for some reason, or if I were buying new I think I might go with the newer design just due to its greater durability, even tho I am a flower user.

high temp caps are basically for concentrates and for those that are a bit more of kinda lousy or less determined to master the proper technique of pulling a nice hit without charring either the load or even the wooden part of your Lotus. When I was getting familiarized with my very first normal cap, I would burn it all round the metal part and not only in the center. This resulted in my wooden part being charred a bit. After changing my plate, I'd still get some "sense" of char when hitting it. So I decided to get a high-temp one for more carelessness
There are few things that differ to the high temp one. Your technique with it has to be changed from what you've been used to. Thick flame until getting your plate red-ish and then you could pull a nice draw. Although the amount of heat being absorbed from the metal ring is considerable enough, the time needed to torch the plate is def longer. Personally, although I prefer the high-temp to the normal one, the normal is the beauty of this vape. If you want to vape it without having to keep in mind combusting or charring your erb or your wooden body, then high temp is the one that you should pick. If you like your current set up, even with the normal one you can easily use it for concentrates.. Just aim the center and nowhere else and get ready for some real heat :p

That's about it basically...

Personally though, I'm currently at my electric-vape-only phase since I dare to say that I can't be bothered with the butane anymore, for the time being of course because I know that there will be a time that my little Lotus beast will be shining once again..

Awesome explanation but could I ask when you change the heat plate on the normal can you buy the high temp plate or it different so you have one or the other?

All my torches don't go high enough anymore. They used to be able to adjust too high, and combust.
Now they aren't hot enough to vape at all. I have a Zico mt, and some cheap chinese, I only use high grade butane. Any recommendations? A great vape if you have the right torch. Getting tired of the butane inconsistent performance......

I think the plates are the same, and it's the other bits of the cap that make it "high temp".

Indeed, they're two completely different caps. The ht cap architecture is different as well than the normal one. If you look on Lotus website, you will see that in the ht cap the actual plate is kinda "engraved" in the wooden body so that the metal ring can fit in there as well. So there is the plate, the "foily" surface underneath and least but not last the metal ring. Pricing of course differs significantly as well.

Overall, if you like your current vape and you're using it considerably without a lot of extra heat, then you're good to go like that.. if you find the specific technique a bit complicated and you're combusting then the ht cap will suite you fine.

I also use a Zico mt with mine and liked it so much I bought a second. The second one wouldn't go high enough so I screwed around with it and found an easy fix. Take the adjuster on the bottom (The black piece with the flip up arm) flip up the arm on it and move it gently all the way to the plus side until it stops. Then gently pull the adjuster off of the lighter. Try to maintain its orientation to the lighter. Spin it in the air clockwise a 1/4 -1/2 turn and slide it back on the brass screw. At this point you will now be able to spin it further to the plus side increasing your flame. You may need to play with it but you'll see what I'm talking about.

Butane is always a little inconsistent. If your lighter is warm the flame will be higher than if its cold. If its full it will be higher than when it is empty. Nature of the beast I suppose. If I know I'll be using my lighter I put it in my pocket ahead of time. It helps a lot with consistency. I like butane vapes a lot. I love the control they offer the user and of course its always fun to play with fire. I hope this helps.

Damnit. I broke my j-hook that I got from Lotus while cleaning it the other day. I REALLY like it for attaching to ACs with the Lotus WPA. It's a GravLabs, and Lotus doesn't carry it anymore, but I found it at 420 Science. Whew... ;)

Got to get some new cleaning brushes. Exposed metal is baaaad...

Just so you know Underdog sells a really descent j-hook for a good price. I paid 25 for 2 of them with shipping. Its not as cool as my GravLabs j-hook for sure but it's got a great angle for operating the Lotus. I use them as beaters and save my Grav for special O's.

It's Baaaaak... I missed the J-Hook. It's nice with this AC because it stands up unaided unlike the other one. The downside is the honeycomb is not very flavor friendly...

Someday I will get one in this shape that has a more flavor friendly perc.

Awww shit. Someday was today... ;) Somebody take my CCs away...

I have been using my Lotus a lot lately - almost exclusively for the past week or two. Forgot how great the thing was and finally managed to tame the beast. Thanks @YungLeaner for the inspiration on busting it out!

So this is likely a stupid question but I figured it would be worth asking. Are there butane torches that don't make a lot of noise? I just got a Lotus and it seems nice, but the torch noise is a pain when you're trying to be stealthy at night while people are sleeping. It might not be as bad as I think but it definitely feels like a fairly loud and distinct noise. Guess I should have gone with something electrical. :p

Looking to get away from battery operated devices for now. VAS is kicking hard on the Lotus! I have a Hammer, but the igniter is finicky. Would rather have something where I just have to replace the lighter if something goes wrong. I'm assuming I can just use standard pipe cleaners to clean the stem out?

Anyhow, should be getting one ordered by Easter.

No need, use a little bit of iso and just rinse the stem out in the sink.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a 4/20 sale.
