The Lotus Vaporizer

I certainly get the differences in strains changing many elements of the effect in potentially significant ways. I think we have likely all experienced this and recognized it. They are often fairly gross differences like potency and taste and duration. I think the "signature" differences we are talking about based on the device are more subtle and possibly more personal or subjective. I don't really know.

I don't want to hijack this thread so I'm taking this over here: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/what-is-a-vape-signature-and-how-are-they-different.17864/

On another note - How is conduction better than convection? I thought that convection was the 'holy grail' for even heating
I would think it would be. It allows for higher temps without fear (or at least less) of combustion or "scorching". Nevertheless many users seem to favor, or at least appreciate conduction in some circumstances. Conduction induced vapors might be less hot as they don't bring the heating element (the air in convection) with the vapor, so that might be a reason for preferring it.

I would be inclined to think that the differing effects are not so much convection vs conduction but more based on the dosage timing of different vapes. When I use my Solo (rarely these days) I usually load up a bowl and have a single 10-20 minute session to finish it for full a spectrum extraction at a steady rate similar to smoking a joint. When I use my Lotus I might kill the same bowl in seconds with a strong hit or three like using a bong, or stretch it out with single hits over an hour or two like a old school "one hitter" duckout.

After a little while of using my Lotus full-time, I don't regret the decision. I'm still trying to move my E-Nano, but I've barely plugged it in since the Lotus arrived. It's not quite as suited to my 15" QB001 bong (never quite white walls it like the Nano did), but the hits are still thick and potent. I've moved away from the QB001 and the dry stem in favor of my 6" bubbler. All the perks of a J-hook and a bubbler in a super compact package. It purrs like a motorboat, which I find delightful.

Lately, I've noticed my plate is pretty noisy. Lots of clicking as it flexes that wasn't there before. The Lotus really isn't a group vape, in spite of its large bowl and relative ease of use. I hear all these stories of people keeping their caps for years, those people clearly have more dextrous friends than I. Luckily a friend owes me a new one, so I can keep this one as the group plate and have my own, immaculate one.

Maybe I'll break out the QB001 today...

Compared to log vapes the bowl is massive. I never pack it more than halfway, but packed tight it fits far more than my old, notched e-nano stems.

Edit: I grabbed the QB001 yesterday. Until I got the 6" bubbler, I had no idea just got much drag the bong had. I've been a large tube guy since I started combusting, but now it's just too much effort to use with the Lotus. It pairs with a log beautifully though.

I find the Lotus has too much drag for me to enjoy fully with most water tools. Sure, it works in a pinch and is great for travel, but the power needed from my lungs really deminishes the experience when i am so accustomed to the Evo, Herbie, LSV, ect.

That said, i do have a little travel bubbler (Purr 2 Go), and the small size of the lotus + wpa is a Awesome combination for travel, but the overall experience using tbe wpa + lotus is mediocore IMO

I find the lotus to have very little drag, and I use their fine mesh screen. Have you tried cleaning/replacing your screen, or maybe even turning up/getting a bigger torch? Or maybe it's your water piece?

I have tried fresh screens, i have the ones with the bigger holes already. When compared to my desktop collection, the Lotus sure takes some drag power.

Has your hot plate formed itself around the lower plate so there is a bump rising in the middle of it? That will cause a lot of drag.

No, still completely flat. I tried the Lotus with some lower drag glass last night, and it was better than i remembered. Still, much more drag than say the Evo or LSV but i enjoyed the experience more than before.

Both my v2 and v3 hot plates have a little 'bump' in the center now (actually from the first few uses).

Is there a way to use the lotus that this doesn't form on the plate? Is this not just normal with use?

Ya mean like this?

Is there anything one can do about it?

None shall void the physics laws!!

No you can't because this bump is the remanent plastic deformation from heating multiple cycles. The former shape made some area collect the stress and crack!

Glad I could email lotus about a 4/20 sale, they said they will have one starting 4/10-4/12 (starts between then) and that they would announce it also in this thread since I said I was a FC member. So fingers crossed hopefully some good deals come out and I am forced to buy a lotus + wpa

That would be too good (although you couldnt catch me complaining), I bet they do a huge discount on their older models and then release the new one after, seems logical from a company's persp (see: pax pricing). Now I'm just antsy about their sale starting soon as they told me it would be around today, from canada so I gotta wait my damn time til it gets here too (ugh borders) so I want to order asap once the sale starts (assuming it's decent as their past have been)

I'm trying to decide if there is any reason to get the hi temp cap if I don't do concentrates. We'll have to get more information about it to determine that as Lotus has kept it all very close to the vest. It may be unnecessary, tho I imagine it will be more durable. We don't even know yet if it is going to replace the other cap or be an option. At least I don't remember any discussion about that...

Well my time using the Lotus has come to an end. It was a great run. My next foray into portable vaporizer will probably be electric, but I'm still going to recommend the Lotus everyone for its durability alone. I think my main mistake was not picking up the adapter so I could use it with water pipes :p
