The Herbalizer

I've yet to get it super hot but I've had zero issues with kinking so far. The thickness of the tube makes forming a kink hard. It's working like a champ so far and I'm beginning to think that the thickness isn't a bad thing at all. My only word of caution is that the heavier tubing could topple a lightweight water piece. I simply unplug the adapter when I'm not using the vape to avoid an accident.

The best part about the Herbalizer and increasing the flow is that it will keep the temp constant no matter what. So there's no ill effects from this. if anything my ABV is more consistent than ever before.

I got my tubing from a beer brewing supplier, I'm sure similar heavy wall tubing can be found in a US store.
So true. I started dropping a flattened EQ basket on top of my smaller loads, and it's been a life saver for cloud production. .1 gives me clouds like .35 now

Quick question for you Herbalizer owners:

I'm about to trade my e-nano plus $$ for a herbalizer. Is there much difference in vapor quality? I have to use 3-4 stems with the e-nano just to get to the point where I need.
Also would you say the herbalizer is a dependable vaporizer?

Any info would be fantastic Thanks

Jack of all trades, master of none.
Mines been working well so far. Seems to be rather dependable. Not a whole lot of complaints except for the bag system. Vapor quality is excellent, I think.

I think it's a great trade and upgrade. I have an underdog and think the Herbalizer is otherworldly when compared in terms of vapor production and taste and versatility. Grab some good tubing (like 7th floor tubing) and a gong adapter and it's probably the best water pipe vape out there. It's also awesome dry, has instant heat up and much less breakable parts. I've spilled probably 2 cups worth of water over time onto mine, even into the internals more than once, and it works perfectly. I think it's one of the best vaporizers ever made.

I have no experience with the E-nano but the Herbalizer is a VERY dependable vapourizer. I've used mine for a year and half, 3-6 times a day and it just purrs along with no issues. Vapour quality is top notch with extremely precise temperature control. If you set it at a given temp it will maintain that temp regardless of draw speed. This lets you really play with the type of high that you want. I typically stick to 365, 390 and 430 for different highs.

I would highly recommend platinum cured high temp silicone tubing with a thick wall if you're going to get it. The stock tube is restrictive and can increase throat irritation from the draw resistance. If you can get tubing with 5/8" OD x 3/8" ID (16mm x 10mm) it will not kink and will slip perfectly over the stock Herbie bowl.

The Herbalizer bags aren't very good and are quite expensive to replace. I would use the Herbie with a whip connected to a water pipe if you want to really enjoy what this vape has to offer. A 10mm GonG will work perfectly with the 3/8" ID tubing, so you can select an 10mm male to 18 or 14 mm male for water pipes.

It's funny, I really go back and forth on this issue. I really need to do a side by side someday and see which is more effective with a given amount of material. I for sure get milkier hits with my underdog, especially the nong.

@Vicki I would highly suggest someday upgrading to the volcano solid valve system. It's kinda steep at around 100 bucks but I find the solid valve setup superior in every way. Vapor leakage is now a thing of the past and it just looks and feels so much better. Bolusing I find the volcano bags less crinkly than the Herbie bags. I have been left with the impression that we have similar taste in vapes (I think we own at least a few of the same vapes) and switching to the solid valve really made me appreciate bags again.

Honestly that the folks at Herbalizer have not put an ounce of R&D towards upgrading their faulty valve system (or their herb chamber that is so prone to coming apart is kind of ridiculous.

I think we will likely see the company close its doors before they ever perform a revision which is unfortunate because the Herbalizer really does have the groundwork to become the Ferrari of the desktop vape market.

@virtualpurple I have seen others using the solid valve system, but the cost deterred me. It is quite expensive, but I may consider it in the future. I do hate the leaking, but so far it has been minor, and I can live with it for now. I'll have to PM you because I'm curious what capes we do own in common. :)

I've never done that, and not sure if it is even possible.

I don't use bags because I prefer bong hits. But this can be done with a nectar collector from DHgate, one of the types that has a ground glass joint at each end. You need something to prop it/hold it up, or lay it on its side, and then connect a whip to the bottom and a bag on the other side. This would be best done with a very small whip length because the Herbalizer's fan is not very powerful. It's probably not worth the effort but it is possible

IMO, much easier if you must have bag and water to: blow a bag and then connect that thru water.
Blowing thru water into a bag with the Herbie air pump would be difficult.

Have you tried directly thru a bubbler, with no bags?? My very strong opinion is that the best improvement for throat and lung smoothness is ADD MOISTURE !!!! Vapor is relatively cool but is VERY VERY DRY.
Best remedy for that is a bubbler or hydratube with warm or hot water to maximize moisturizing effect.
When folks have lung issues, what feels best----moist moist warm water vapor.

Thru warm/hot water, the mj vapor can actually feel good, like it is a helping relieve sore throat and lungs.

Easiest setup with Herbie is @Ratchett Delta 3D Studios (longtime member here) and his Herbie V2 Song.
Slips over chamber, connect with tubing to a bubbler OR a hydratube slips onto it directly.
Pic of V2 Song with Magic Flight Launch Box (MFLB) water whip. It has glass connection and a handy wood handhold.

Try warm water and see what you think.

When I specifically want to "water condition" I use a Swiss Inline water bong which is exactly what made me ask the question because as you mention the water conditioning completely eliminates that throat burn I get without it. Reason I'm wanting to use with the bags is for some reason I get much more vapor volume (i.e. hits or bags) using the bags. I'll give this a try. Thanks!

If you aren't getting high volume in the water piece then you probably need to buy a wider whip diameter. The stock Herbalizer whip isn't horrible, but it's too thin to deliver the huge kind of hits I like. If you get 7th floor 3/8ths x 1/4th inch tubing you will be MUCH happier. The stock whip connector also serves to lessen airflow. The Herbalizer is quick to adjust temp for fast inhales, so hard rips and big airflow = thick vapor, even though the opposite is of course true for most vaporizers. I pull clouds as big as any vape I've ever had with the modded tubing, FC UFO Showerhead bubbler, and the fan on with 445 temp. I also use a screen on top of my load, which helps a LOT. I'm not sure why, although a big part of it is reduced clogging of the upper screen, which is super quick to happen otherwise.

This is all true, there's little advantage to blowing a bag then filtering that through water as the vapour has more time to condense. Better off just sipping from the Herbalizer as it barely cooks the material between hits, if at all. A second upper screen does a little bit for airflow, but a large diameter tubing that fits over the bowl stem is a gamechanger. The difference in draw resistance is incredibly low, I can't believe I stuck with the stock tubing for so long ><.

Any glue/epoxy you recommend to put the ring back onto the bowl bottom?
This is my second one to detach and I prefer to just fix it myself.

Any high temp epoxy rated to 500*F would work. Use very little as epoxy depends on a thin layer of glue rather than thick.

That feel after spending $69 bucks for a replacement bowl for my Herbie..... :(

I can't get over the price on that little bowl, for another $10 bucks I could buy a working portable vaporizer brand new! ..........sorry, ranting mode at 100%.....

There's a fair bit of work that goes into making one. The metal walls of the bowl and upper screen catch are machined to a high surface finish and made from stainless steel. It's also made in the USA meaning they have to pay a machinist to make these. The costs are a fair bit more than you'd think when you factor in materials, marketing, machining, development costs, and all the taxing that comes after that.

My brother did the same thing and didn't realize they were for Concentrates. We found that we couldn't get rid of the smell/taste with just ISO. You could try torching them clean then bathing in ISO which would be my way of doing it.
Try the 91% ISO (not the 71%) and table salt. I pour enough 91% ISO in a glass jar with lid to cover what I am cleaning and I add some regular table salt. Iodized or not, no difference. Throw your screens, pads into this and shake it good a few seconds. Let it sit a couple of minutes or more (depends on how gummed up your screens or pads are). Shake them again, rinse under hot water. LIKE NEW! I only use the 91% ISO with everything, it cleans off resins, smells, tastes, etc,. I use a bit on a q tip for the mouth piece of bags and whips, the 91% puts the 71% to shame. I use a Herbalizer and I rarely replace a screen. If they get misshapen I flatten them out between my hair straightener (girls, go hide your hair straighteners now, ha ha!), and use a small pair of scissors to trim off any ragged screen. I drop my bowl chamber into a small plastic jar (minus the rubber grips into the 91% ISO (no salt) and shake it around), then hit it with hot water. Use the Herbalizer to dry out the chamber and screen too. Want to make a real stiff shot? Run some Everclear or Bacari 151 through your whips (NO ISO! POISONOUS!!), shake it fast and pour into glass. Run hot water through your whip before the 151 proof alcohol degrades the tubing. 91% ISO and cheap old table salt are my staples!

I highly recommend getting a solid valve system for your herbie if you do not want to Pay through the nose for the stock bags. I find the Volcano hardware to be miles above what Herablizer supplied
Hi Winegums, everyone,

New member to FC, not new to Cannabis :) I have a Herbalizer that I use everyday, quite heavily. I use very sticky top shelf flowers, and the Herbalizer bags rarely last me a week. The one I put on just now is defective, it is just spewing delectable vapor from what seems to be all around the base of the bag..sigh.

I do not like to use whips, I own 2 of them now :) I am a bag girl. I am not tech savvy like so many here, just a girl who has spent way too many years on motorcycles, surfboards, horses, and other adventures. I use my Herbalizer to treat chronic pain and at night for insomnia. I like bags, but I do not like the Herbalizer bags. They do not last me at all. I just read your post about using a solid valve system and Volcano Hardware. Would you explain in depth what I need and where to obtain it? If I am understanding you correctly, you can then buy the volcano bags to use with the Herbalizer? Do they last longer than the Herbie Bags? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, by all. Thank you so much!!

I was wondering if anyone could do me a favor and post some pictures of the bottom and back grill of their Herbie. I sent my in a few months back and just noticed that I can see the insides of my Herbie, wires and everything. I thought there was a foam filter that was behind the grill. I don't know if I was dreaming those filters or if they forgot them. Any help would be awesome. Thanks a Ton!

Hi YungLeaner,

I am not sure what you are asking me about in regard to temperature, grind type and amount of flower I am using and the type of bag system I am using. Would you explain a little more, many thanks! I use my Herbalizer on 445f with any flower, grind can vary from a medium to a fine and I usually fill the chamber 1/2 to 3/4 full. I use top shelf indica's and hybrid's, really dank, California, sticky, blow your socks off flowers. The result I am looking for is sleep, and I really appreciate any advice from any and all on how you get the most medicated with your vapprizer. I have whips and do use them from time to time, but I prefer filling a bag and sitting back to watch TV as I sip it down (about 5 minutes per bag). Thank you!!

The Volcano Solid Valve and the Bags that come with it are far superior to Herbalizer. The bags are much more durable and are easily replaceable.

The cause of your issues with your bags failing is the design of the Herbalizer squeeze valve. There's a very short distance from the port of the bowl piece and the plastic bag. This causes the plastic to become brittle with use at high temps and worse yet all the stresses from the bag get focused there when it's inflated to its max. Since you're running at 445 you're going to be putting that small film of plastic through the worst case scenario. S&B avoided this issue by moving the plastic film away from the air path and also used a greater amount of material to spread stresses.

I believe if you ordered the following you would be all good to use the solid valve.

NOTE:You will have to hold the Solid Valve down to fill.

I modified my Herbalizer squeeze valve quite heavily to make it work. See the posts below for details.

Really excited because today I got an Herbalizer! I already ordered the Delta3dStudios WPA, and I plan to attempt the Volcano Solid Valve bag mod, thanks @Winegums. Anything else that I should try or check out?
I have only vaped a few bowls so far, but I tested the full spectrum of temps, and I must say that I am really impressed with the high temps, even when maxed out at 445F it still tastes good, whereas the Volcano flavor really starts to go downhill past about 415f

Welcome to the club, Buzz!

First thing, lose the mouthpiece on the end of the whip if you want better airflow.
Then use an arizer elbow to connect it to water. The whip is killer because adapters can be easily installed and removed.
This might be my favorite unit to use with whole nuggets. Cram one in there and take a few hits. Once it is dry enough all the way through, crumble it up and put it back in and get ready for a face punch!
Later when the performance suffers, it is most likely screens that need a cleaning.
