The Herbalizer

Great Scott!
I can't seem to find that thread, only a evo vs sublimator thread, mind linking me if you can? I want to post in the appropriate place, but search never seems to help me find the right place. Thanks!

I'm going to read this whole thread tonight if I can. Strongly STRONGLY considering replacing my evo with another desktop vape, but I need to find the perfect one (for me). I'm getting sick of replacing them these days.

You know, darkrom, I've seen you struggle with some vapes for a while but I can't say I know what you want in a vape. What are you looking for so I can help you better spend $700+! (Probably should pm me to keep the thread on track).

Shit...maybe that was it and I was wrong...I'll look for it and link if I find it.

1) Purity comes first. Everything else is just down to how well it works.

I've got plenty of good vapes, and up until recently my evo was one of them. I enjoyed my volcano, my cloud, my underdog. I just can't seem to find the best of the best, which we all know is impossible. I just want to feel like "this couldn't possibly be any cleaner".

I've gotten so frustrated lately that I considered just switching to ethanol hash oil only lol. Just because its easier to use without material or design concerns from the vape itself. I will say that my firefly and my cera have flavor that is leaps and bounds ahead of any desktop vape I've ever used. Something must be effecting that flavor on all these other vapes. I currently own only convection vapes, and doubt I'd be happy with conduction anymore. If it was convection I'd still have my pax(s).

The herbalizer just looks clean. The whip would likely throw me off a bit flavorwise, but I'm sure it is safe. I like the rapid heat too. I'm getting used to vapor on demand with the cera and firefly, where with the cloud I find the green light on the top to be almost mocking me. It comes on after like 30 seconds to a minute, however I know to get even decent hits I'm going to have to wait 20 minutes+ while it continues to raise in temps. I found the cloud works best after an hour+ of heatsoak, which is pretty tricky with the shutoff timer. I don't want to be cycling it all day. I think the instant on will leave me with more time to enjoy life after medicating.

Really the only thing I'm not in love with about the herbalizer, is the price. I mean I've given over $800 to vapexhale easily, but its so hard to bring myself to spend that much. Part of me wants to just go back to the underdog as my home vape always on, and then just use the cera and firefly. The other part of me is thinking "I could easily get $300 for the evo...just $450 to go..."

If there was a halogen vape like the herbie with a stripped down version, say no bags just direct draw, and less software options/smart tech, I'd probably buy that. I can deal with many different things about vapes, they all have their downsides, but the second the vapor quality/purity is suspect to me, the vape is as good as dead to me.

I found the link and edited my post above.

I would consider the Aromed for a stripped down version of Herbie. I still think the king of purity is the Vapolution2 and you can check that one out for $100; if you think you are a purity snob now...

If you get Herbie you will have a completely different experience from your Cloud experience. In particular, although they haven't been around for long, the initial launch has gone better, which is where I know you have had most of your Cloud problems. Truth be told, I prefer the tasty bong hit of the EVO, but the feature set of Herbie is undeniable (as is evidenced by how much I use Herbie with glass). I just got my EVO, so only time will tell which one I use more, but I really think they will get almost even attention as I rotate them to keep my signature tolerance to a minimum. I really want to morph them into one vape.

I'll check the vapolution out. I do kind of feel like a purity snob these days. I don't think it is a bad thing, but it limits my options. I figure if I wanted easy and fast I'd be smoking bowls lol, I'd rather just have something that feels right. The cera and firefly have me 100% covered I feel as far as portables. Right now the cera is my backup to the firefly, but once I get the cera back from being rebuilt I'm going to try to rotate them around more often.

Part of it is just my never ending desire to try "whats next" which is fine, but expensive. Up until this smell thing with the evo, I was perfectly content with that as my main home vape, but really it wasn't compelling to use like the ticker was due to the lesser clouds and more herb. I found myself often wanting to use my firefly instead of my evo while I was home. Partially due to the instant vapor, partially due to the better flavor, and the seemingly more complete extraction.

The herbie sounds like it is similar to the firefly in many ways. I'm curious about the flavor of the herbie through glass. Would you say it is the same, better, or worse than the evo through the same glass?

I'm of the opinion that the flavor should be good, unless something about the vape is masking/changing the flavor. Even dry the flavor on my evo isn't nearly as good as the cera or firefly, and I can't figure out why that is with the all glass air path.

Does anyone have a desktop vape that they prefer over the herbalizer?

I'm considering replacing my VapeXhale cloud, but I don't know what I want.

How is the Herbie doing for direct draw. Any Herbie owners have any advice? Is it worth the money?

Can anyone compare it to the cloud Evo?

For someone who has used the volcano and this, is this much quieter? Better in any way? Used volcano's are cheap enough, but if the Herbie is also peoples favorite direct draw vape, I'd consider it.
I got rid of my cloud also.
I tried the Evo, but did not keep it.. but I did keep the Herbalizer.
I now only use it with direct draw (at least for the moment)!
I have the Volcano next to my Herbie. Herbie is much quieter.

darkrom

Great Scott!
Thanks Vitolo. Very helpful. I wouldn't call the volcano loud, I'd call it slightly disruptive and offputting lol. Its easy to live with, but quieter is better.

What made you get rid of the evo? I see you seem to love the herbalizer, and I love it on paper. Just that price is killing me right now. Not in as good of financial situation as I was when I was pouring close to a grand into vapexhale products.

I think part of what we like most individually comes from what we are used to. Vitolo has spent a lifetime with 7th floor products and likes them better than the Cloud for taste. I grew up on the Cloud and prefer it to 7th Floor products for taste. For me the EVO is my taste standard, and I like it better then Herbie in that respect. I also tend to run all my vapes through water most of the time and Vitolo does not. I consider Vitolo to have an iron throat the way he hits these vapes with such a short direct draw air path sometimes! I can't take two puffs off the LSV transfer wand without feeling harsh, whereas he actually has shortened that air path at times! It's one of the things I truly love about vaping...the experience has so much more to offer than smoking in terms of customization that actually effects the experience and can be tailored to the individual.

I think anyone who gets an Herbie will be satisfied with it. And their short track record backs that up. I also think anyone who gets a well functioning EVO will be satisfied, but you have had your own problems there. I really hate comparing these two units, as the only things they seem to have in common is price and the fact they both use weed, but it is inevitable as anyone who has $700 to spend on a vape is going to weigh these two units out. @darkrom -- figure out what you want for features and usage patterns and get the one that fits it best.

In the end, let's not forget that it is all about the herb!

darkrom

Great Scott!
Absolutely. Now you've got me checking that vapolution out LOL.

The herbie has always been my "most technically impressive" vape on the market since it came out in my eyes, but its SO hard to judge what is and isn't going to impress ME personally without trying it. Unfortunately I don't know a single person who could even consider a $700 vape, so it'll be hard to do unless a local headshop carries them and takes a bribe from me to let me try it or something LOL.

I'll keep following with high interest though.

I tried the Evo, but for various reasons it was not for me.
This being the Herbalizer thread, that is all I wish to say.
My friends LOVE the Evo.
I experiment with every vape I have... by doing something very personal, that only my wife has seen.
I do not talk about this very often, except in person.
I emulate disabilities more severe than my own... as though my lot in life were not challenging enough for me. While my left hand suffers spasticity, I can use it. I have tried to use every vape I own in the following manners:
  • One eye
  • Blindfolded
  • One hand
  • two hands/no fingers on one, 2 on the other
I will state without reservation, that I can do all of the above with Herbalizer, with the limitation that when totally blind, I must rely on a preset level, or I must take it to the top (which is most flavorful anyway).. HOWEVER... when blind, I could find a level I liked through trial and error (inching up and down) ... and when I uncovered eyes, found that I had been vaping at 396º.

@darkrom not satisfied with a vapourizer and looking for something else... who could have predicted this?

If you limit your quest to only those points that bear directly on the Herbalizer, it's fine to post here, otherwise you need a different thread. Thanks for your co-operation.

I wonder why it is pulling while idle.
Is the wattage pull only when Herbie is on standby with the lid open?
Because if it doesn't pull anything with the lid closed it would make sense,
that it pulls the watt to remain in standby mode.
If it happens with the lid closed then I have no idea why!

@darkrom, I can never make up my mind which of my three "top shelf" home vapes is my favorite.
I will give you the comparative benefit of my experience with them, for what it's worth.

The sublimator with the launchtube is my favorite for hitting dry and with straight keif. But its extraction tends to be one dimensional, as much of the spectrum is lost to sublimate oil, which is nice but requires harvesting and separate consumption. Also its design is not safe for all environments, and manufacturer support in the states is arguably deficient. This is a concern, because the 1.0 version has reliability issues and the new xlr version is still unproven in this regard imo.

The evo is awesome for hitting through water, and can hit like a semi truck if you want, but will also let you sip at low temperatures. Because of the all-glass vapor path the taste is excellent, nothing but herb. If it's warmed up to proper thermal mass and I want a monster hit, the evo is the vape I reach for.

Herbie is the one I would keep if I could have only one plug-in vaporizer. It's temperature precision and safety are unparalleled, and compared to the two units above the learning curve and warm-up time are non-existent. It also seems to be the most (reportedly) reliable of these three vaporizers. This is also the only one of these three that I would say qualifies as a real medical device, and would fit nicely in an institutional setting. Or a professional office, at a home with kids, etc.

I really like all three, now that my sublimator has been "hacked".
Best of luck with whatever you choose :freak:!

Nice summary man!!
I agree that the EVO delivers a considerable punch because it can extract a lot in a short time.
I would never get rid of my Herbie! Whip, bag or WT it excels!
The others stay around for variety and to keep things interesting!

I haven't noticed any hum on my Herbie, but I haven't looked for it. I do notice that the bottom near the heater stays quite warm for a long time after it has been used at 445 and shut off.

I don't think one vaporizer by itself could ever satisfy all my needs...thankfully that's not necessary and my portfolio is well rounded and more than sufficient.:evil::evil: My VAS has been held at bay for the time being.

Almost there...
It constantly pulls 1 watt even with the lid closed. The hum almost sounds like a built in transformer of some kind. You can hear it if you put the bottom of the unit to your ear. My unit also gets slightly warm on the bottom even with no use.

I tried this before using my Herbie, it had been sitting in the same place for over 12 hours unused.
I can hear the hum on my Herbie as well!
Lid closed, pick up the unit and place your ear close to the slits underneath.
Sounds like a transformer hum for sure.

My Herbie was cool to the touch though, no warm spots.

So versatile so much fun

I also have the hum. I usually unplug Herbie when not in use anyways.

Just pulled out a fresh bag and filled her up at 396°F. Tasty treats.

Has anyone replaced the bag with their own? It seems the SqueezeValves silicone softens up with use. My fresh SqueezeValve is more rigid and stiffer.

The references to EVO in this thread are voluminous and quite frankly, very telling, and disappointing. I will remind you all that you were IMHO, "coached" to not report bad things in this thread until given a chance to be "worked out" . . . a fact I constantly try to remotely observe around.

Someone asked me today if the Gong configuration is easily adaptable. This is for you buddy.

What was that piece of glass you used in the last bit of the video??
Is that the EFS Incycler?
Would be interested to know more about it. Any links?
Looks like it pairs with the Herbie perfectly!
