Discontinued The Hammer Vaporizer

The UD GonGs are also thicker along with every glass item I own. I have more fear with my Versa glass pieces breaking than my Hammer items. I don't feel being that thin is that big of a problem based off of the design. I do think they need better containers and cases for travel (like stem holders), and some item to plug our stems.

I haven't seen a new nano stem but I've used the Solo's and its got a much bigger hole available and it fits in well; I assume the Nano is slightly smaller to the same size (heatport as the Hammer) but I'm sure it has more area for stem insertion. A lot of your space is taken when you add that silicone gasket.

I just don't think light bulbs are an accurate comparison. Those are super thin, and couldn't survive getting flicked over and over again to get rid of the herb.

x2 I have no complaints about the stems. I think the breakage issue was due to how they were being shipped. I do have to say though, the custom stems feel sturdier than the normal stems and IMO they are less restrictive to. @ryan8 If you really are worried why not get the UD silicon tubing? I put my stem in those "doob tubes" that you get joints in from the dispensary. Fits nice in there.

Actually I don't think light bulbs is a good example bc they are all over the map on thickness. The newer ones are thick! Maybe your thinking fluorescent or incandescent but those are slowly fading out of existence? CFL are mainly outdoor and vary in degree on bulbs from thick to thin. LED's are taking over and are pretty amazing but can be made with or without a glass surrounding. I think a fair comparison is the old school slide piece to a non gg bong.

I wasn't comparing it to a lightbulb at all - sorry if it came across that way. I was just saying lightbulbs were the only thing I could think of that's thinner than the hammer stems.

I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it - it's just something that really stood out for me in an otherwise well thought out product. I didn't feel the need to buy extra stems with the nano, solo, or LSV, but based on experiences from this thread alone I knew to order them with the Hammer.

I'm still really liking the Hammer so far. I'd say it's an overall more "involved" experience; with electric vapes you basically just draw (and maybe modulate draw speed), but with the Hammer there is a lot more control (and therefore responsibility) in terms of getting the temperature correct. I feel like it's one of those things that will become second nature with frequent use though.

Lighting the thing scares my dog though, so there's that also :V

I got my UD silicon tubing/corks/baskets, and that works real well!
It is a little awkward getting the stem to stay on the Hammer, but once I do (carefully - almost dislodged the gasket thing once), it works even better than the glass, IMO. I think the straight - to - stem, rather than the basket that narrows at the stem, does me better.

Ed is getting a Hammer stem. I may have something way more pretty in a few weeks :)

Only have had my Hammer for two days, so far my opinion of the unit is mostly favorable.
What I like so far..
  • I can get good clouds with this vape.
  • I can get GonG adapters for water pipes.
  • The unit feels durable and would probably handle a drop or two.
  • Great for when traveling and access to electrical outlets is limited or not available.
  • The taste was actually pretty good!
What I don't care for so far..
  • It really is not a very stealthy unit. I found the torch noise to be quite loud.
  • The glass stems and the top of the unit get very hot. You would probably be sorry if using this in public and had to try and stash the unit in your pocket.
  • No caps provided by manufacturer to seal your stems if you want to not vape the entire stem of material.
  • Learning curve required. This would make this a poor choice of vape for a party of non Hammer users.
  • The "warmup" of having to hold the gas valve down for 30+ seconds does get old, quickly.
I am happy so far with my purchase. I knew of most of the downsides of this vape before purchasing but found the large discount in price to outweigh the shortcomings that I believe the vape has. I will use this vape around the house and will probably only use it out and about in secluded areas. This vape will fill my backup role very nicely, which was the main reason I bought it.

Glass Blower
So my hammer arrived and I've had a couple of sessions. I'm gonna have a few more days playing before I feedback my thoughts but first a question.

Has anyone else burnt they're tongue using the hammer? I was using the heat on tongue as feedback to adjust my draw speed and when drawing very fast I really badly burnt my tongue! A warning to users not to fight the heat of the unit by attempting huge, quick draws. BTW I saw no combustion in my abv so I I'm a bit baffled about this one.

Be interested to see if any others have had a similar problem?

Ok had my first two stems and a load via 14mm fem GonG bowl and recycler. I am blown away. No combustion so far, went a bit to carefull on my first two tries, got cloudy on my third. Haven't noticed any butane smell or taste so far, even when using the GonG (puts your face pretty close to the exhaust port when used on a tiny recycler). I am really amazed. The glass pieces feel a bit thin and fragile, we will see how they hold up. Orderd a few extra lock-on kits at the reduced price just to be safe, still, one of Ed's wood stems would be ultimo. The GonG fell on the table from about 2 feet hight, bounced around a few times and doesn't have a single scratch but maybe that was just luck. :)
More thougts as I keep using this little precious thing. So far I am really amazed by how easy it handles.

I didn't burn my lips, but somehow got it done to get the glass stem REALLY hot without combusting the herb. The tip of the stem became so hot that I had to stop drawing and the rest of the stem was to hot to touch for a few seconds. I think I may have pushed down the fire button a bit to long while drawing.

The stem getting surprisingly hot was how I broke my first stem (held it to unlock it, then, as they say, dropped it like it's hot.). I guess because the glass is thinner it gets hot quicker? On the flip side that should also mean it cools down faster...

edit: I like to think the stem breaking was karma for saying the stems were too thin :V

Glass stems are going to get hot no matter what vape you use. I have used many and its a common issue. Even silicone gets hot enough to burn you and ss tips.

When I say tip, I mean the "mouthpiece" end, not the bowl.
Never had that issue with the Solo nor the EV-2 direct draw stem. Not even the improvised GonG on the PNP. It's not a dealbreaker to me in any way, just never had that problem before. Feels more like user error as well, guess I heated to long, drew to fast etc...

Interesting, I use it for oils and thats way hotter than where you're going but I can touch the mouthpiece end and it doesn't feel hot.

EDIT:
But you should work on placement in mouth and angling, I have to tell every user using the Firewood or Versa that it shouldn't be that hot, and they need to work and understand positioning actually makes a difference. Every time I mention it to someone for the first time they look at me like I'm crazy and am making this stuff up.

Damn it man, that must be one hot running hammer. Never had the mouthpiece end get any where near that hot and I've done some three to four hour sessions using the same stem. I do want to crank up the heat on mine a little and going to do a little tune up later.

So I adjusted mine one notch and it made a HUGE difference, I only have to wait about 10 seconds, then put the stem on and wait another 10-15 seconds instead of the 40 seconds I was experiencing before any vapor production.

Sometimes this unit scares me....Ill run it for the required 25-30 second warm up for the first hit, then I only do about 5-10 second warm ups in between the rest of the draws with the bowl. When I get to about that 3rd hit I cant touch the top of unit because its too hot (Ive got waiter hands and am used to having very high temp plates across my hand and this thing is still too hot). My main concern however is when Im igniting to charge for that 2nd or 3rd hit and fire blows out the top and the sides of the unit. I hold it well away from my face but it shoots a good amount of flame out of all the 3 holes at the top. Does anyones unit do this as well? Last thing I want is a piece of plastic with glass attached exploding.

Is it a real flame or a spark type fire from igniting, because it will actually produce a flame on the hole on top. Mine tends to give a good frightening spark every ignite or so while the blue real flame on top comes on random occasions.

Also I know it was mentioned before, but dogs for some reason don't like the hissing of torches, I haven't had any bark at the Hammer and I was really waiting for him to go crazy. But with the open torches my friend's dogs would go crazy.

Same here! Waiter hands, well put! Mine does the same, however I never attach the stems or gong before ignition.

been noticing a issue with my hammer. when I crank the knob up past halfway It will sputter a bit and sometimes go out. This has never been a problem in the past because I never go past a quarter turn on the dial. going to purge it and refill and see what happens.
@FlyingLow what do you think about the taste vs the Lotus, I am kinda leaning toward the hammer on taste. Does win by much, in the strain I got now the fruitiness comes out more in the hammer than in my lotus.

I am digging the taste, and I am looking forward to taking out the old bubbler this weekend to try with less diffusion. The SB piece I have has LOTS of diffusion, but is so smooth and the viewing angle so nice, that I have been preferring it over my other pieces.

I do feel I have really good control over this one, combusting is not an issue with minimally packed bowls and I lay off the power button when I see vapor. I am loving it and it appears to have the same durability as my Plenty, which is to say it is a tank and very durable.

More thoughts to come later... just doing some quick reading before catching up with MrsLowFlyer:D:D

Really great device so far, need to score some good butane today to refill it as it seems I've used up the prefill. Direct draw is sublime, but I am really impressed by how well it performs with WTs. Very open draw for a portable.
