I am working with some tongs using mine, the 18 mm does have really nice high air flow too, still trying to find the right tongs exactly but I think there's a big pack of bamboo that could be pretty promising and ultimately better than the silicone I'm using for now (limitations of amazon shopping)

I don't have a lot of vapes to compare to but I am surprised by your feeling. To me the EMK feels quite more restricted than the herbo Ti for example.

But with ball vapes I think restriction is inevitable.

Yeah it always depends what you're comparing it to, but I also amusing with a new WPA with the pinch in the 18 male so that helps with the bowl being slightly wider for more flow, I don't know if it's the most wide open flow but it's nice and I'm also comparing it to the 14 version of the killer so there's that and tetra that is pretty open flow (hard to compare to Atlas honestly)

My intake has lowered lately :
IMG-4603.jpg

Few crumbs in the basket bowl, slightly hotter temp than with a full bowl.
I keep the hand on the clamp and lift the head a little if I need to adjust the cold air intake.

Ofc this will only blow one mellow cloud. Vapor density is super easy on the throat with just the Sherlock.
Though less intense than with a full bowl, taste is still very acute and mature. (Even with cloudy glass.)
From this amount, effects are… surprising. :D

Decided to do a bit of a stress test, and pushed this past 20 seconds, maybe up to 35 seconds. The heat was intense, and I got more vapor than I've probably ever gotten. Killed the whole bowl in two big hits, virtually no flavor as everything was blasted off, and the ABV was the darkest I've ever gotten without combusting. Riding the line pretty hard on that one. I wouldn't do that again for fun, but I did want to see what this could do when given a big push, and in that aspect it did not disappoint.
So I decided to get the real thing after experimenting with a well-intentioned UK/Thai tribute that broke on my 1st use.

Undaunted by my previous heating too hard, too fast - I went all in first time w ith the enormo Ronx torch (that sounds-like-a-hot-air-balloon-being-inflated and feels more than slightly dangerous) without reference to anything on here or Youtube. No idea how long I heated it tbh. Till it felt right.

Like you, the bowl was done in 2 / one and a half. Glad it was through water though, because it really was quite warm, and taste free)

I've not been quite as surprised by a vape since Glass Charlie's OG Tasty Tube. This little thing has significantly exceeded my expectations.

Zero import duty to HMRC btw, UK folks.

Just reading about this but am a bit confused by all the listings on the site. Do I need to buy a heater plus the stem and/or WPA? Some stems are listed with basket screens and some are not. Does the herb sit in the screen or is there a glass bowl build into the stem/wpa?

It would be helpful if there was a complete device listing or if it was made clear what was needed to build your own complete device.

If you get the simple heater and clip option, you need
- an 18mm male joint adapter (I use 18mm to 18mm) with
- basket screen.
- something to vaporise
- a pipe or a bubbler that fits the bottom of your male to male joint
- a medium-strong flame

Place a full bowl into the 18mm joint, then place the heater on top of the basket/joint. Then insert the bottom joint into whatever glass you have around eg a bubbler, J hook. Then heat the heater till it glows. I agree, until you're in the know, these things can be baffling.

Perfect_Speed4069 did a good explanation here thank you! There is 2 stem options for the 18mm Killer that I sell which are ones that use metal capsules and ones that use basket screens to hold the bud. All you need for a complete 18mm Killer set is the 18mm Killer cap which comes with a metal clip and one of the 2 stem options that I mentioned above. I keep the stems and 18mm Killer caps listed separately so people can build their own kits. Sorry for the confusion!

And I have WPA with pinched bowl male joint to hold a flat screen lower, instead of basket screen or capsule stem bowl at tip

If you already have 18.8 mm male stems and or WPA then all you need is the 18 mm killer quartz heater itself and a big torch of course

I think I've seen pics of the other one from @coolbreeze ; do you have any videos of usage @GoodVibesBoro ? I'd imagine you'd heat up the periscope tip ensuring the flame faces the same direction as the "eye" and then slowly hit it.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that? The way you use these is you point the flame in the intake, and inhale the flame through the intake so it can heat up the air to pull through the herbs below... You don't heat up the tip itself, but I'm not sure what you mean by flame facing direction of the eye at all

It's like a brick, you point the flame into the eye (usually only very slightly) and inhale slowly to let heat build up and then faster as the vapor begins to flow. The indents and balls are not for holding heat in this case, rather they diffuse the massive amount of heat coming in, slowing and turbulating it for even roasting. Dreamwood and CouchLog among others use similar intakes these days; they're really pretty improved over smooth ones for the most part, especially in ease of use.

Ah, I got it now, thank you both!

What dosing capsules are compatible with the EMK? I have the standard 18mm basket screen in a 18mm/18mm male to male adapter. Based on few comments above, I am quite curious to try the capsules but don't really want to buy a stem.

I've been doing it wrong all this time: I've been heating the EMK from the sides, bathing the whole device in flame until it shines, and assuming the balls are acting like battery (like the many TRWW TEDs) - rather than as a direct draw device.

My method works and I've been very pleased with the results, although I've no doubt I'm using a lot more butane to achieve this. I wonder if I'm putting the device under unnecessary stress as a result of this total, sustained heating?

Any thoughts?

My EMK is still on the way, so I can't speak from personal experience. However, I inquired with @GoodVibesBoro about how he heats the EMK, and he replied with the following:

I heat the 18mm killer ball section for 24 seconds while rotating with the blazer big shot then go straight to hitting it when using the capsule side of the stem!

With the basket screen side of the stem I heat the ball section for 20 seconds while rotating then wait 20 seconds for it to cool down a bit before hitting it!

That's encouraging, I also rotate whilst heating the sides of the ball section. Feels like there's some different possible approaches to this which reminds me of the discussions surrounding the "correct" way to heat a Camouflet Convector. Some come in from the sides, and others come in from the top. Interesting.
