The Depressimistic Thread

I thought about it, but he isn't depressed.. He was a true realist. A real animal; reveling in the glorious highs and abysmal lows. Channeling words from the darkness and from the quiet place in our inner temple. In a perfect, brutish balancing act; he walked the line between harmony and chaos.

Tormented? yeah..
a drinker? obviously..
but depressed, fuck no!

I think his orthopedic issues kind of got to him in the end though. I believe he had a replacement hip, a semi-artificial spine, and complications from a badly broken leg.

When I read Hunter's suicide note, I hear the kind of depression that only a man who has completely given up can have. I don't hear acceptance - I just hear sadness.

:2c:
Instead of seeing Hunter as the guy who threw in the cards he was dealt, I prefer to see him as the dealer. House always wins, even when it loses! His suicide was selfish, and he left behind devastated family & friends, but he also gave so much.
May he always live on in our hearts

My daughter introduced me to this author's work. I told her that in her own realist writing, she sounds very much like him. I like him~

He was on another level, dude. Hunter wouldn't have associated with such a standard self-perception like depression.
He had to stay legit and vulnerable and raw to do what he did with so much passion for so long. And if you don't mind me saying, I think in some situations suicide can be an act of a true realist. He lived on his own terms, and he died on his own fucking terms.

I think when he did it; he was at peace. It wasn't an impulse, but a thought-out and calm decision. That is getting into the realms of speculation though, which I don't care to fuck with today.
regardless; r.i.p

@Deja Vu , I would agree with this. My brother who committed suicide suffered from depression and other mental illness but it was not depression that motivated his self-immolation. It was a pact he made with himself that when he did what he considered to be an act of violence toward a loved one, he was finished...and so it was~

Thank you for sharing, that is very deep.. Yes I think only some suicides are impulsive and sudden, and they can have a lot to do with psychosis or drug abuse, but the majority of suicides would be premeditated; and with planning comes a lot of thought and consideration..
Suicidal thoughts or intentions that are backed up by a person who is dead serious enough about it.. well, those thoughts are often put aside separately and with greater importance than their petty 'depression'
It's sad, but people are entitled to their own choices. My thoughts are with you and your family for the loss of your brother, if you ever want to talk or bounce some thoughts/feelings off me then don't hesitate to send me a private message.

Thanks @Deja Vu , I might do that sometime :)
My brother was one of my greatest teacher's of life and he still finds me.
My pleasure, its fine. :) I feel the same about my grandma; her lessons and gentle nature will always follow me through life. It's funny isn't it.. haha. They truly do live on.

And in regards to your signature.. I can't help with the bacon or kayaking sorry :(

After writing since she was 18, this is a life quest not a career, she finally sold her 1st two books to Entangled Publishing recently. She is in line edits on the first book now so no cover yet. She will be helping to launch the new "Lovestruck" imprint, hopefully later this year. If I get a cover I will have to weigh the pros and cons of disclosing it here.

As a formerly paid writer who's now an alcoholic washout, I'd be delighted if you would please send her my personal congratulations. :)

AUTHORS ARE THE 4TH HAPPIEST JOB??!! FUCK THAT BULLSHIT.

If you're an author, and you're happy, then you are either a liar, or you're writing complete shit, or both.

Writers should NOT be happy. End of story. :nope:

Feel free to disagree with me here.
Not disagreeing...

I just think that, like most other popular "news" stories, the author(s) pulled their data from popular media.

If you ever watch "Castle", you'll see that authors are having nothing but 24/7 fun! All that money, success, and toys! woo hoo! sign me up to be an author!!

Writers, on the other hand. WRITE. they aren't really party animals, because their soul is wracked with the need to CREATE...

here I arrive... exactly where I started...
Alone.

You know, I was wondering today why this thread doesn't get more play.

Are FC'ers just that happy, or just that ready to pretend they're not unhappy, or are they just that ready to ignore any thread I start? Hard to say.

Well, not really.

By the way, happiness does not exist. People just become more comfortable with their own misery, and mistake that for happiness.

Being Depressimistic - that just means you're more in tune with reality, and don't buy in to the "joy industry."

The Joy Industry. God, it pisses me off. "Helpful" little phrases that mean jack-shit, but people (mostly women) post these worthless, meaningless words to their fridge because they think that, because it's happy, it must be true.

Just because someone offers you advice that is "positive," doesn't make it any more meaningful than what comes from us Depressimistics. It just means you're easier to fool with fake positivity, and more likely to buy into their bullshit.

Happiness is an industry. Just like everything else. Stop fooling yourself.

Now, pretend I'm just an asshole who has no idea. And go pretend you're happy.
