Many vapes & accessories. Always happy to help
I might have to summon @OF here, but we had A LOT of conversations about glass beads and flowers back then in the Ascent thread. And I can't remember what the issue was, but I clearly do remember that there was something wrong when using random glass beads found online. Lead content or something?

Sorry I can't recall but it's all there buried somewhere....

yeah, there were some reports... some of those "all glass" flowers got melted or deformed after some time, which should not have happened (don't know if it was here or on reddit). Another thing is, a lot of beads have some coating on it that could offgas and evaporate when heated. Not sure if that applied also to clear glass, not only colored ones.. I would not want to play with that though. @oddjobold Was there a "smell" when you took those beads out your oven?

Did not see any fumes, deformation or off tastes when using these beads.

Would be interested to know if anyone else knows anything that should worry me?

Yes this battery would work just fine.

All 3 would be safe. Personally I would go with the Sanyo.

1) Yes the IQ can be used with a 3000mAh battery as long as it is 10A or more. Also with a 300mAh battery you will see decreased battery life.

2) All of these batteries good and would work well in the IQ I would rank them B, A, C, D.

We will not ship them out of order of the queue but if you did want to upgrade your shipping to overnight so there is no additional wait we would do that.

Our office has been close for the past few days for the Holiday. Our shipping team did work on Friday to get orders shipped. Our office will resume normal hours tomorrow morning. I'll PM you for your order number and figure our your shipment.

I believe the $51 can only be used on accessories, the Ascent, and original Davinci. Although I will double check on that for you!

Wait a second. I talked to customer service and was told specifically that overnight shipping was NOT an option. Order number 57510. Can you advise?

Various Questions:

  • Is the vapor as harsh as the Ascent is @~380F?
  • Is a screen recommended for finely ground herbs? I noticed the 4 holes are on the top of the oven this time.
  • Is @Davinci_vaporizer planning to sell an oven spacer for those who like small amounts?
  • According to various sources, humans begin to feel pain from heat at 175-185F. With that said, if people are Almost feeling pain, that means that the device is VERY close to, or at, above 150F. Since the device is aluminum and a good heat conductor, it's pretty safe to say the top of the battery should be reaching those temperature. Then again, I still don't have my device so I can't properly measure this. Perhaps @Reggie Watts has a thermometer? That said, I have some mech-mod e-cigs that have gotten SUPER hot and my unprotected batteries are all fine.
  • Speaking of that.... What is the exact battery that is recommended? I've heard people get the 18650 unprotected with 2500mAh, 3400mAh, and 3500mAh. Does this matter for the device/safety

THIS! As someone who vented a few batteries back in the days when I first started vaping ecigs I know first hand what heat can do to these battery cells. Even the best cells like Sony and Samsung. Heat makes these things vent. The other night after running a session back to back and then turning it on again just to go nuts. Pulled the battery out and hit it with the thermo-gun. Battery was sitting at 190 F. Granted I ran the device for like 22 straight minutes to get there but still, 190f is way higher than the threshold of the batteries. I believe it was luck that it didn't vent right there on my table. o far nothing like that has happened even with 2 sessions back to back BUT the potential is there. Must be a better way of housing that battery to reduce thermal conductivity.

@Davinci_vaporizer , this is important.

In a previous post you stated the batteries were good till 150F, and that the device and battery would not get nearly that hot. In my follow up post, I stated that if people are feeling that the device is too hot, then it's probably close to 175F-185F.

With that said, according to @canalquyopen the device is reaching 190F, which far exceeds that temp. With that said, can you comment on if the device that @canalguyopen has and others might have are experiencing heating issues? Or, if we should NOT be using the device twice in a row?

So far there has been inconsistent feedback.

Edit: I simply do not want to have any battery venting. That is definitely not a good thing.

I don't have anything more than anecdotal evidence, but I've used the device to the very end of a number of the smart paths and have never felt uncomfortable with the temp that the device reached. Only towards the end of Smart Path 4 did it get close, but I was still able to hold by the bottom of the device and put my lips on device using the recessed mouthpiece without feeling like I would be burned. I know for a fact that coming into contact with 190 F water hurts quite a bit to me, but everyone has different sensitivities. There were a few people earlier in the thread that mentioned what seemed to be out of control heaters that actually combusted their herb, maybe this was a similar case? I'll be curious to see how this plays out.

I definitely agree with this. The thing for me is that the design doesn't seem to leave much room for at least part of the battery getting above 150F. The multiple people saying that are having hot devices is indicative of that. And some of the people experiencing hot devices were not the same as those with combusted herb. SO I'm interested to know if these people also had herb combustion.

For this to be testable, the following must be true:

Device get's too hot to hold.
Device is run at OR under 10 minutes (Davinci specifically built a 10 min timer for this exact reason)
The Battery must be factory OR an acceptable model.
The battery temperature must be tested outside of the device.
Multiple users would have been able to confirm all the above.

Also of note: The silicone casing might protect our hands from the heat, but not the battery. It would keep more heat in, and make us notice it less. So be aware of this when crafting the silicone casing @Davinci_vaporizer

Can anyone provide a test case like this?

I constantly run the device for over 20 minutes straight. I have to in order to finish a load. It does get hot but not too hot to hold. It feels nice in the hand, especially when its cold outside. This vape takes forever to go through a session and gives me poor results compared to the other vapes I own. Emailing their customer support email is a waste of time they will not get back to you. Their rep here has been replying to messages so that's good, now I'm just waiting to get a warranty request started

I agree. I have never even been close to too hot to hold. Do you guys have a problem with your unit?

My device gets quit warm but not near to hot. I believe @Davinci_vaporizer choose a battery that is easily safe at the max temperature..

Does anyone figured out how to clean wisely the part between flavor chamber and the oven? it looks like a small silicon part that keeps the flavor chamber in place but has some room that isn't really visible from both sides of the device. I tried with soaked qtips, wasted many and still not perfect clean ^^

So it's difficult to clean this vape? It has everything I'm looking for a portable conduction vape but still not sure if I like that "flavor chamber" thing... Seems like something that I would use only the first time to try it and never look back at it and at the same time like a PITA when you want to clean the unit

The flavor chamber actually helps cool the vapor quite a bit. I do not use it as a "flavor chamber", but it is easy to pop out and soak in ISO and clean up.

This I have found to be the big draw back. If you don't clean this space out, it begins to stain your oven from the bottom side it seams!? I have staining in my oven, and I clean the thing out religiously after ever session. I use the brush that was included with an iso wipe attached to the tip and spin it crazy. I find I get some very black chunks out now and then.

Okay firstly I always do 2 10 minute sessions per bowl. I usually start it at smart path 1 and by the last 5-7 minutes of the second 10 minute session I'm at smarty path 4. Somewhere in the middle, I usually hook it up to my bong. I've only ever used the battery it came with. My herb has never combusted. In my honest opinion, I consistently get great results in terms of vapor quality and quantity and the taste is pretty good too. I have not reason to believe there is anything wrong with my unit (if there is I'd like to exchange it for the real deal because if this little thing is supposed to be even better that's amazing). BUT if you don't think this thing can get extreamly hot, you're either running it on very low temps, or you're sessions can't be very long. No, it's not going to burn you (if you have half a brain not to clench it too tightly for more than a few seconds while running on higher temps). Just because it isn't lighting your hand on fire however, doesn't mean the battery isn't reaching dangerous temperatures. I wish I had something to test the heat of the battery with me to get a little more scientific with it. At this point however, I would be extreamly cautious and concerned until we as a community ,and hopefully Da Vinci as well, can adress this issue. I'll try and get something to test the heat out today and see what happens.

On a side note: For those of you who are curious about vent holes, I believe air travels up through the bottle of the vape (on the bowls side) through the hinge area.

Thirdly, most vapes have an auto shutoff timer, but that doesn't mean it was designed to ONLY allow for a single 10 minute session. If that is truly the case with this device then someone let me know if they want to buy this thing cause that's just not me. I actually usually do a bowl through the mighty. Then hit my IQ for a 20 minute sesh. And then finish off with another bowl out my mighty. Point being 1 10 minute sesh for me is like taking a drag out of a cigarette and then having to put it out. Da Vinci did comment however that they may look into allowing us to customize our smarthpaths for longer than 10 minutes and remarked that that longer sessions are more up their alley than everyone being so focused on micro dosing and short sessions.

Also, keeping in mind that I am by no means an expert on batteries, so can someone enlighten me. If the temp ends up being an issue, are their batteries compatible with the IQ that simply have a higher temperature threshold for venting?

Lastly, and most importantly what are the proper safety precautions to take if a battery does end up venting on me?

Edit: For those of you saying your device NEVER gets too hot to hold, can you please leave a comment as to what temps you are running on, how long your sessions are, and what you mean by it isn't too hot to hold. Like someone mentioned previously (even though they were somehow using this as a point to defend the fact it doesn't get too hot) I find myself having to hold the device by the hinges on the mouthpiece side being that it's the only place not hot enough to be uncomfortable when held for more than a few seconds.
The fact the mouthpiece doesn't get too hot is a godsend after owning a Cera however. That thing would start to burn your lips after a few minutes.

It's all very easy to clean since it is easily removed and thrown in a bag with ISO. I don't use the flavor chamber for storing anything. I like it because it is easy to scrape off your reclaim before soaking in ISO.

I vape between 180-200c. I dont do back to back sessions. Generally i am outside when i vape.

However i have not got anywhere near hot. Just warm - nice at the mo as its winter.

For what it's worth, the ASCENT also got quite hot, but it never affected the battery. And that was a permanent battery....

Ordered Nov 14th, waiting patiently...

We seem to have a similar way of vaping, I also run back to back sessions through multiple devices. Could be why our results are so similar. I also have never had it combust, not even close. I had some issues in the begging getting used to the "flavor chamber" but after a while I learned to enjoy it. So far I only have two major issues with this device, first it gets way to hot in the battery compartment. idc what anyone says 190f is way beyond what any brand of battery can sustain safely. This is one of those "matter of time" devices. Second, it shuts off randomly. It gets really frustrating. It's mostly during heat up, it will climb 40 degrees and then shut off. I'll turn it back on and it will go a few more and shut off. But once it reaches temp it stays on and works normally. Very strange behavior for a device at this price point.

As far as your question about what to do if a battery vents this is what you should do: Put it down, and let it sit. Don't try to remove the battery, don't try to open it up and check it out. Just shut it off as quickly as you can, chuck it in a sink or can and let it sit. After a good few moments you can come back and open it up and see whats happened to your battery and/or your device. But if the thing starts hissing or sizzling, or dripping while you are holding it, don't try to save it just get away until it's done venting. I understand the instinct to want to just open the door and let the battery drop out but it's just not worth what can happen if its under pressure or venting rapidly. Hot flying acid is just not worth it. Takes about 10 minutes for an 18650 to vent out and then another 10 for the temps to come down enough to hold it.

My device has never turned itself off, except at the end of a session.

Hey just drove an hour out of my way to get the only davinci iq near me. first impressions, much heavier than i thought but very solid build, really nice aesthetically. i have used it twice and enjoyed the results still not getting the clouds im looking for. used it out of a bong too and got some clouds just feel like im using it wrong. how tight are you supposed to pack the bowl, and how high do you guys pack it. also what smart path do you guys primarily use, ive been fiddling aroudn with 3-4. also cannot log into the app on an iphone, anyone having similar issues. thanks for your help.

So I just got my IQ yesterday. I originally ordered a stealth, but I didn't want to wait two more weeks for it to ship, so I ordered a copper one from vaporworld last Friday. Having not had any portable vaporizer experience (my only other vaporizer is a Plenty), I'm impressed. I follow a similar vape session as you Mario, except that I run the first three smart paths back to back for a total of 30 minutes. My only complaint is like others have said, this thing definitely gets too hot.

Also, a couple of questions for everyone. How often do you need to do a full cleaning of the IQ? I brush out the oven after every bowl, but i'm not trying to do a full cleaning each time. Second, can you charge the IQ overnight?

@Davinci_vaporizer What is the bowl circumference ? Could you throw a Storz and Bikel dosing capsule into it?

The bowl circumference is Just under 11mm. I'm not familiar with the size of the S&B pods so I can't comment.

Does anyone figured out how to clean wisely the part between flavor chamber and the oven? it looks like a small silicon part that keeps the flavor chamber in place but has some room that isn't really visible from both sides of the device. I tried with soaked qtips, wasted many and still not perfect clean ^^

That space can be cleaned with alcohol soaked q-tips as you have already mentioned. Or You can take the provided brush and scrub that area The bristles will be able to scrub the edges of the area in question.

So it's difficult to clean this vape? It has everything I'm looking for a portable conduction vape but still not sure if I like that "flavor chamber" thing... Seems like something that I would use only the first time to try it and never look back at it and at the same time like a PITA when you want to clean the unit

The flavor chamber doesn't need to be filled with herb. But it dose need to be installed inside the vaporizer to make a good air seal and give good vapor. This is the air path for the device. You will see diminishing vapor production with it removed.

For what it's worth, the ASCENT also got quite hot, but it never affected the battery. And that was a permanent battery....

We're getting more and more everyday. Your order should ship quickly!

My IQ shipped with one of the Sanyo NCR18650GA 3500mAh 10A batteries. thought that's why @Davinci_vaporizer recommended that one. I just bought 3 more of them from imrbatteries.

Yes That is the battery provided with the IQ a great battery to have spares of!

I just moved the discussion about 18650 battery safety to a new thread. Our rules do not allow safety discussion in specific vapourizer threads.

Thank you! I'll be jumping in there soon.
