THC-V Weight Loss Endorsement. Anyone else?

Greetings all. New member here. I’ve been a medical patient in FL for a couple years now. When I got my card, I weighed around 215. Back when I got my card only concentrates were legal, and I was new to them, so I spent most of the past 2 years wasting money on the 510 cartridges from curaleaf and trulieve.

I’ve also been steadily losing weight, and am now down to 175. I was surprised I was losing weight, because I didn’t feel like I had changed my lifestyle much. I’d already been trying to exercise and diet as much as I could before I got my card.

So one day, about 6 months ago, I was researching my favorite strains from curaleaf and trulieve as I was watching a Strain Hunters on YouTube. I realized they were all high-ish in THC-V (~0.7%). From what I’ve read, THC-V in quantities greater than 0.2% should work as an appetite suppressor.

So when people I knew when I was 215 lbs ask me how I was able to lose 40 lbs, I tell them medical marijuana. Then explain the all the benefits, including those of THC-V.

Now, I’m willing to admit much of it may be placebic in nature, knowing that THC-V causes appetite suppression. But I didn’t know that until I was around 190. Even if it’s not the THC-V, I definitely eat healthier since becoming a MMJ patient; healthy food tastes great high. And I indulge in other vices less often because I’m satisfied by my meds.

So I guess I’m wondering if there are any other MMJ patients with similar experiences that’d like to chime in.

Straight THC imho is good for weight loss as well. I have access to a couple of strains of medical grade with high Thc and almost no Cbd. I find that those strains work like appetite suppressant while weed containing Cbd gets me the to have the munchies. The less Thc is combined to that Cbd the stronger the munchies too!
Best appetite suppressant is by far having hit the gym that day.

also, just adding more metabolic response in your bod via ingesting the extra phytocannabinoids keeps your cells operating in a "get it done" sort of way . the extra metabolic response equates to more cellular lipids being moved through your cells . this action is responsible for the homeostasis sequencing in cells ( survival) all the way down to CooH waste elimination . providing those cannabis derived lipophilic/terpenophenolic meroterpinoid essential fatty acyls ( phytocannabinoids) into your anatomy makes it run better and metabolism is the first response always to external stimuli , extracellular activation ETC ... action happens in the endocannabinoid system / cannabinoid sciences / lipid signaling

I had a similar experience. Started using medicinally just over a year ago and went from 225lb down to 175lb in about 8 months. The same thing happened several years ago when I was using regularly. Can't think it's coincidental.

Something else that stands out to me is during the first three to four months, I was constantly tasting weed on my breath. This is more anecdotal than anything, but it occurs to me that a large % of fat burned by the body is exhaled. I wonder if my weight loss, weed-breath experience is related somehow. The smell thing stopped after a couple of months :)

just reading an article @ projectCBD explaining the carobn active phytocannabinoids ... the article was stating that we exhale carboxyls ( decarboxylated Cooh metabolites) and are constantly decarbing ourselves LOl ... the process of decarboxylation of cannabis is part of that process too it seems . when ingesting those cannabis actives the increase of carbolylic acids being used up may increase as well an lead to a slimmer waistline

This is very interesting to me, I have diabetes. This is what I have learned about THCV. The benefits of this cannabanod are energetic, appetite suppressant, weight loss. Helps with PTSD, anxiety, ADD, ADHD, bi-polar, dementia, pain, stress, fatigue and depression. For diabetics, insulin resistance and helps regulate blood sugar. Effects: creative, euphoric, happy and uplifted. Jack The Ripper strain is one of the highest with up to 6%. Some others high with THCV are Skunk #1, BB Kush, G.S.C. and my favorite Durban Poison.

Little late to this thread, but just browsing some sub forums killing time lol.

Oddly enough I had noticed something really odd myself. In particular after quarantine started and I got my first vape.

I'd always "struggled" to lose weight, always had somewhat of a beer belly, the typical "dad bod" despite being in the gym realistically 3-5 times a week the past couple years. I've tried diets, counting carbs, macros with an excel sheet tracking everything that went into my body, the whole thing and never really seemed to be able to shed the weight that I was actually trying to. I was never like too big, just had a belly that I could never get rid of.

Since quarantine started, I obviously stopped going to the gym. Naturally its been pretty tough times so for my mental health, my usage of weed & alcohol has gone up considerably. Much more so on the weed side of things which has been anywhere from 1-3 times since I get home from work till I get to bed, with alcohol having a very wide range, 2-5 days a week on average - not getting obliterated, but just sipping a couple glasses of wine or a few beers. Creates a real nice even keel, a little weed, a little alcohol, nice cruising altitude...

Anyway my point is that I've been a lot "unhealthier" lately. Diet hasn't really changed too much. Don't eat awful all of the time but I'm certainly not like a role model for a good diet these days. There was a time when I was, but fuck that. Its not for me. HOWEVER I have been losing a lot of weight, I cant even verify it with a scale because I dont own one, but in the past couple months I've had so many people ask if I'm losing weight, between people at work in the office, family members... I didnt realize it but I guess I must have dropped a decent amount of weight.

I really realized it cause we lowered our dress code at work considerably during corona. We used to wear suits and ties everyday but its basically been jeans and a t shirt for a while, starting to ramp back up again. The first time I had to put a suit back on, I realized the pants were a lot looser than they used to be.

So it didnt really make sense to me at all. I hadn't REALLY changed my diet. I've been smoking (rather, vaping now) more, probably eating a bit more, or at least ordering delivery more, completely stopped going to the gym, now my only exercise consists of walking/hiking with my dog. I had wondered if the increase in MJ consumption had anything to do with the weight loss or maybe if it was just a switch to vaping, idk, but still, doesn't sound like its a coincidence.

ingesting cannabis activates metabolism ... lipid / terpene metabolism ... expression of phytocannabinoids @ the point of metabolism makes the intracellular enzymes and Epoxides responsible for biodegrading lipids into signaling events active .. . basically fine tuning the endocannabinoid system and making it perform via lipid augmentation / lipid expression

Beautiful. I've just been telling everybody my body has made a complete adjustment after years of punishment to run at its optimal efficiency no matter what I put in it.

Your explanation makes more sense though.

I've been trying some high THCV hemp derived CBD distillate from LulaCBD for a few days. Interesting stuff. Do I notice an "espresso like" energetic/appetite suppressing effect like some high THCV sativa strains allegedly impart? No. But that may be because I'm already zonked out on coffee during the day. It is slightly energetic on its own.

I do notice a more uplifting effect than oils without THCV content. When I mix it with a THC extract, it definitely gives a more energetic sativa like experience.

It has 6.5% THCV. I'm not totally sold on it yet, but I don't regret the purchase. It's possible I'm not totally blown away by it because the high CBD content is blunting some of the THCV effects. Lula does occasionally offer a 99% THCV isolate for sale, but I haven't seen it available for months.

Wow, I didn’t know you could buy thcv distillate. Thanks! I was worried when I switched to dry herb that I’d gain the weight back since there aren’t high thcv strains available here. So far, I haven’t. How do you use the distillate? Their website says it needs to be thinned before putting it in a cart. I haven’t done that before.

I don't know why it says the distillate needs to be thinned. I find it pretty runny at, admittedly higher, Floriduh room temps.

I've just been throwing it in my SiC dab pen. Tastes like terp-less hash oil. I added a little hemp terpenes to it and it actually tastes pretty good!

I'm getting some THC disty this weekend. I'll mix it with some of the THCV/CBD oil and throw some in a 510 cart to try it out.

Great idea! I’ll order some to throw in with my thc distillate, plus fill a cart with just it and terpenes. Do you have any measurements of how much you like to add?
Edit: Also, what terps do you buy? No idea where or what to get.

I use hemp derived terps from wwww.cart.farm. They taste and smell cannabis derived, because they are. And you can use them in higher concentrations than fake veggie terps with no throat burn. Probably the best tasting internet terps I've found.

I've never added this THCV Lula stuff to carts before. I was going to try anywhere from .1-.2 ml of a 1ml cart. I feel like that would get you around 1% THCV in your blend, mimicking African landrace sativas.

If the THC distillate you're using is already flavored, you may not need terps at all. I find the Lula disty to have a very neutral taste, especially in small amounts. But if your starting disty is either raw, or flavored with botanical terps.... try adding a drop or 2 of the cart.farm terps. It will make your stuff taste like an expensive sauce cart.

Thanks again @florduh, my distillate from Lula arrived today. Unfortunately, I forgot to order the terpenes. I tried a bit in my Sai with no flavor added. It’s hard to say if the effects were noticeable, or how it tasted; there was still a bit of strawberry switchblade in the coils of the Sai. I’ll make a cart with the terpenes and distillate when it arrives, and report back.

Wow, that needs verifying!
I have consumed a lot of this terribly named but rewarding strain and I didn't know this! I heard that THCV gives a rapid buzz when inhaled and this strain can certainly do that. Unfortunately it has a strong "lemon cleaner " flavour that is a bit too much and often overpowers the finer haze influences underneath.
I have read that african sativas tend to have THCV and have experienced an even more intense buzz with a strain from Congo (Queen Mother). This is why I am actually inrested in THCV strains... but these sativas are very cerebral and can cause anxiety problems :( I am currently experimenting with combining these with CBD/CBG to counteract the anxiety tendencies but I think terpenes are an important part too. I guess the stimulating effects of the THCV reduce appettie just like real stimulants do- in my case, it's a case of forgetting to eat because I get intensely focused on some activity or just spacing out. ( i am not actually trying to lose weight). i think the munchies are a result of boredom from smoking heavy indicas. Sativa strains in general do not make me want to eat junk food but these effects seem to vary between people.

I've also read that Jack the Ripper is high in THCV on a TGA brochure, but that's not exactly a verification of anything. My favorite is half of that with an orangey indica making Agent Orange. Not a fan of the name, but I love the feel of its body high and it does in fact smell like oranges.

Anyway, I have the opposite problem most people here have. I have an extremely high metabolism due to it being a part of my disorder. I'm tall and thin (and sleeves are too damn short.) I've always had a sort of chubby face and when I was 17 I got RSV and it was pretty bad -spent three days in the hospital and then six months on corticosteroids. I gained a ton of weight, essentially concentrated in my face giving me the so-called "moon face" and around my midsection aka the "spare tire.". I actually took myself off the steroids cause the Dr. was going to simply put me on a different one when I was tired of the side effects.

I've always had a hard time gaining normal weight and have carried the excess steroid weight, which I thought was forever barring surgery. One of the reasons my GP was happy to write the rec for my medical card was due to "the munchies" possibly helping me gain weight of a more normal kind. Well, I've ended up losing most of the excess steroid weight. My face looks thinner than it ever did and all of the excess weight is entirely gone from my neck. I've lost about 70% of what was around my midsection. There's a small flabby pocket of subcutaneous fat left.

My overall weight has held pretty steady too. Cannabis though, helped to change a huge part of my diet. I started liking foods I'd never eat like anchovies for example. I had a "taste" for them one day while high and now the pantry is stocked... asparagus too. Esp both together on a cracker. I also cut down on sugar and haven't drank a soda or sugary beverage that isn't milk in... seven years? My physical results a year ago were perfect and I was told to "keep doing what you're doing." I've been.

I used to weigh so much that it's already a shame to name a figure. I remember how I couldn't find the fitting pants for weeks of active searches. I was also prescribed curaleaf and trulieve, and I took them with holy regularity. When I lost a decent amount of weight, I was no longer supposed to take them, but the fear of returning to the same weight was great as the food temptations became more active. Many people say that you need to switch to a healthy diet, but we all understand that it is not a bit easy, and if you are under the supervision of a doctor in the clinic, you are alone at home. I started to gain weight again, but I regularly went to the gym. Then the trainer advised me D-BalMax as it dulls hunger, increases metabolism and muscle mass. I was shocked, but it works! The most joyful thing is that everything is natural, and I won't plant a liver while building the facade.

I am replying pretty late to the original thread but hopefully this thread will see a resurgence because THC-V appears to be some pretty fantastic stuff. I am a cannabis RN. I have had interest in THC-V for quite a while. I have been working with a client who developed autoimmune Type 1 diabetes as a result of Covid infection. The initial insulin use was over 60 units a day. Through major diet changes, implementing Ayurvedic practices and vaporizing cannabis high in THC-V, my client is currently completely off of insulin and has also seen a dramatic decrease in lipid levels as well. I’d be interested to hear if anyone else is using THC-V for glycemic control.

I suggest to take Ginger Root Pills too, I take 1.1gr (capsules) twice a day, my sugar in my blood after festing went down from 125 to 111, but also ate less in the last monthes and made more walkings so I'm not sure it's because of that, but I feel like the Ginger helps

Thank you! Yes! Lots of other things are in play besides THC-V. Part of the Ayurvedic recipe is a Turmeric Chai with abundant ginger and Ceylon cinnamon 4-6x daily. Ginger is a miraculous blood sugar regulator. 🙏

@OGRaveMama ,
I wish we had THC-V strains available thru our Minnesota Medical Program.
We just got cannabis flower added so
supply is very short and only 4 or 5 boring strains to start.

I did request that they add strains like Durban Poison, Malawi Gold, Doug’s Varin…… can only hope.
Love to try some!

Have you tried mail ordering high thcv strains and or distillates online? I live in a non-prohibition state, and I still order most online since I am a medical consumer and looking for specific properties not the buzz.
