Salutations 1800,

...the ability of the vaporizer to use very small amounts...

Personally i'm all for dosage control myself but the Evoke thread made us aware of a new scenario possibly developing, one with some vaporizer breed eventually offering "locked" features just as for cellphones before prices dropped...

23.gif

...the file in the press kit (kindly provided by Egzoset)...

Euh...

65.gif

M'well, not too kind i must confess as i got mixed feelings: although i'm genuinely pleased to see spreadsheet tools emerge which may provide a valuable asset to our community, some day, i also despise the idea of a locked remote-controlled distributor and it seems that's exactly where this is heading. Is it not?...

Such feature might sound appealing to politicians, police and doctors worried by "the dangers of cannabis" in the name of children protected under the Commonwealth/ONU umbrellas (...), or perhaps a minory of individuals who should just avoid this controversial substance to begin with, or simply elders who have been told by successive bigot governements that cannabis is evil and has no medical value - including their parents before them. Etc.

Those researcher's work may eventually benefit patients who need it most but i see an opportunity of abuse if 3rd-party involvement is even tolerated. Now, only for the sake of discussion, imagine living on Harper land where pro-cannabic Canadian citizens have already been forbiden by law to self-cultivate a single plant, period... What would such monopoly accomplish exactly??

...

Quite frankly the more i read the more i think of refined "felicium", though non-psycho-active!

But i may be suffering paranoïa induced by laced blends after all...

Time to fix that with a couple pipe bowls in my veranda i guess!! :leaf:

...you can use larger amounts.

There would be little limitation on dosage in terms of battery life i think but the 3-rd party element makes me feel vindictive like a pit bull, i'm sorry to say!...

Looking forward for a wave of Chineese reverse-engineering!

Good day, have fun!!

How much a pellet weight? How many pellets fit in one cartridge?

steama, there will certaintly be a range of doses available, up to 15mg at least.

Egzoset, I see your point but am optimistical, if not about anything else, about a different manufacturer adopting this type of delivery while having free dose range.

Salutations Steama,

This is great for the medical community...

Indeed, such technological value will be most welcome!

...

Yet i've read articles explaining how Health Canada dealt with sending ~38000 envelopes marked "Marijuana", with a recipient's name on it. So it seems to me those persons in need never stopped being taken hostage to emphasize some legal contrast that i wonder who it serves best and hence my reasoning is that public acceptance based on 3rd-party machines does nothing to address the flawed fundations of anti-cannabic prohibition for starters.

33.gif

Naturally, MiniPET would find it convenient but the real problem is prohibition and i don't see how that's going to speed up a reform which will be in our favour to us all, inclusively. Should every hospital in this coutry ban vaporizers because there's a 3rd-party solution that makes everyone else happy why then would the population support the rights of unworthy "stoners" declared criminals by law?

Cannabis as a medicine won't fix a pityful historical record i'd rather not try to evoke today. But that's only one angle, i just hope the medical benefits outweight the rest.

End prohibition and then we can expect cannabic patients in need to get this into their hands even faster. Don't you think? No need for 3rd-party locked distributors unless one is an uncontrollable junkie...

The device pictured in the first post is called Syqe Inhaler Exo and is aimed at "nurses and caregivers a certified medical device for use in pain clinics, cancer centers, intensive care units and other appropriate medical sites in need.". Available in Q4 but, so far, only for hospitals.

For home use, there is the Syqe Inhaler. 2015. Looks slick.

Promotional video
In the promotional video (@ 1m: 20sec) they show a bluetooth app with a slider to control the dose. In the video demo the dose is lowered, but what's to stop someone from raising the dose into the psychoactive realm?

Salutations Nesta,
Hi again Steama,

...bluetooth app... ...what's to stop someone from raising the dose...

Fair enough, i figure it should work using multiple 15 mg doses. I mean how could battery charge cause limitations knowing temperature rises to 190 °C in half a second and the toke i done in only 3!

Yet there are 3rd-party interests involved so i propose we should focus on those just a bit more...

Here's an excerpt from the document mentioned previously:

« Regulatory Considerations

In conducting the study, we followed the Good Clinical Practice guidelines of the International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use, the Declaration of Helsinki, concerning medical research in humans ("Ethical Principles for Medical Research" and any local (Israeli) regulations. »

Hummm... Now i'm getting anxious again as Helsinki is supposed to be located in Sweeden which also happens to be this guy's home, if memory still serves me well:

Though, just in case i'll simply follow my intuition instead...

About guidelines 1st:

Fortunately we can find alternate sources of information to browse through, for example:

It's been a long post so i'll take a break hoping the readers use this by themselves and get what i failed to find. My personal impression is that it's going to require exclusively medical prescriptions anyway...

What they really need to do is figure out how to make this interface with a playstation 4.

No worries, there's time ahead for the PS4 to offer a cannabic update!

Hi again Nesta,

Helsinki is in Finland...

Forget Raymond Yans in any case...

Which still doesn't reveal who was behind the "Declaration of Helsinki".

...

In the meantime my opinion is that such "Proof-of-Concept" as the Syqe (or just Sick i guess!) should prompt pro-cannabic "Stoner" friendly manufacturers to exploit a significant untamed efficiency margin not possible before. For example, make it a 2-parts process using 1 machine to generate cannabic films for later final consumption in a 2nd device adapted to vaporize those...

Salutations everybody,

Since the link worked today...

So...

Briefly put it's about creation of monopolies where the traditional grower/patient relationship has been taken over by pharmacies that are dictated what dosage and amount (in weight) are authorized, apparently falling under this country's Health Ministry and/or Public Security Ministries gouvernance while the later authorities will guard it. Though i didn't think it was too clear if this would also include the growth/packaging/distribution phases - but i'll bet it may since they've got so thight because of, i quote: "Marijuana"! Which is customary of journalist papers though, including in Israel it seems.

Salutations,

The way i see it personally those preciou$ CBD and THC (etc.) molecule$$ could be super-formatted much like inkjet cartrige$$$ with a tag-chip on it - but wor$$$$$$t... If we push the concept far enough it may seem there's some trade-off ahead: corporations get the monopoly + profits, patients shall seem happy & silenced - though not "euphoric" mentally. Don't bother about "stoner" sinners because those don't fit the "compa$$ion" deal too well and hence it might actually become profitable for (almost...) everyone if police could just be prompted to cease ALL non-medical paraphernalia as we know it today, for in Harper land "mamoth bills" are quite easy to come by that is!

...

At least i know that abuse has happened before and we still have abusers in Ottawa right now.

So in face of a large number of the population that somehow persistently fails to understand how morally wrong the bigots have proved to be, while seeking divine inspiration... aHummm... Ya know, mandatory prison sentencing (e.g. "tough love" for grown ups, if i may say so!), euh... In short real bigots have been given real power this time.

Well, maybe i'm simply in panick, thinking MiniPET is on his way to save the world - shit happens!...

Anyway my point is if the industry decides to create perfect devices for an ideal captive consumer base then i figure we might end up being pretty much isolated, waiting patiently for the last bigot to rest in peace.

Because at the moment i don't hear a voice in Ottawa that speaks with the appropriate/expected sympathy for my target group via TV news. The more i think of it the more i keep reminding myself that technology is neutral, it's those who control it that cause turmoil to other's expen$e.

Herbal Alchemist
A 3D Printed Wifi Enabled Marijuana Inhaler: Looks to make medical cannabis use more legitimate

http://3dprint.com/16769/3d-printed-syqe-inhaler/

The use of medical marijuana has been debated for decades. The proponents of legalizing it believe that it is an efficient method that can be used to reduce the suffering of millions of people worldwide, while also minimizing the use of more dangerous and addictive narcotic pain killers such as Oxycontin, Percocet, Demerol and Vicodin. Those against the legalization of the drug, for medical purposes, bring up several arguments. These include: The fact that it is a brain altering drug, that too many people will be walking around ‘high’, that it is a public safety risk, and most commonly, that it is very difficult, and in most cases impossible, for doctors to prescribe a correct regulated dose.

No one wants half of society walking around high on drugs. It’s just not good for the economy, the environment, or anything else for that matter. At the same time though, marijuana has been proven to be a very effective drug in easing severe pain, and it is much safer than most of the drugs currently being prescribed.

This is where an Israeli based company, called Syqe Medical thinks they have the solution, with a little help from our favorite technology, 3D printing. They have created a device called the Syqe Inhaler, which in clinical trials has helped physicians overcome the unpredictability of prescribing cannabis.

As the company explains, prescribing marijuana is greatly unpredictable. Everything from the dosage needed, to the active ingredients and the fact that the effects of the drug differ from plant to plant, and patient to patient. With the help of Stratasys 3D printers, specifically the Objet30 Pro, Connex3, Objet Eden260v and Makerbot Replicator 2, the company has been able to create an inhaler that can completely eliminate the unpredictability of medical marijuana.

The Syqe inhaler is able to deliver accurately measured, consistently metered dosages of cannabis, in a very easy fashion. The device takes cartridges that are preloaded with standardized cannabis flowers, containing all natural compounds. It delivers an amount as small as 100 micrograms, which is optimum for pain relief in most individuals, while not providing the mind altering effects that traditional cannabis inhalation or ingestion would cause.

The inhaler is also able to be connected via wifi to a smartphone or tablet app which allows both patients and doctors to correctly monitor and administer the correct dosage. Researchers will also be able to see all of the data, in order to help them determine what the best dosages are for different conditions.

“This novel, small device, allows us physicians to administer cannabis in a truly pharmaceutical manner,” said Psychiatrist and Medical Director Dr. Set Kindler. “The revolutionary technology in the Syqe Inhaler allows us, for the first time, to administer cannabis in a precise and predictable fashion. This device gives us physicians the confidence to prescribe cannabis in the same way we prescribe other drugs today. Finally, government and health agencies can recognize cannabis as a true medical drug. This breakthrough will dramatically improve the lives of millions of people around the world.”

Printing parts for the Syqe Inhaler on a Stratasys Objet 3D printer

Syqe Medical CEO, Perry Davidson told Plastics Today that the company has used Stratasys 3D printers to create almost 75% of the parts for the device. This allowed them to rapidly and successfully complete human clinical trials, without the delay experienced with traditional manufacturing means. Not only has the company used 3D printers for the production of these devices, but they have also used the technology for the creation of tools and testing systems.

“Since metered dose inhalation of raw botanicals is a highly unconventional undertaking, we had to develop the tooling and machines for many of our processes,” Davidson told Plastics Today. “More than half of our production equipment, jigs, and analytical tools were printed in house.”

Once full scale production begins, the company expects to shift much of their manufacturing methods to traditional means in order to scale up, but 3D printing has worked so well that they plan to continue to use it for the printing of specific components for the devices.

For those of you looking to use marijuana as a recreational drug in order to get a buzz, this device won’t be for you. For those of you who truly want it for medical purposes though, this could be the first step in making cannabis a legitimate medical drug, at least in the eyes of government agencies, politicians, and healthcare professionals. Without a doubt, cannabis has its benefits for medical purposes, but up until now there wasn’t a consistent means of delivering the drug in a fashion that would provide relief while not providing the side effects.

“This is the perfect solution to all the challenges today in the cannabis field,” said one government official.

Surely there will be those out there who are against devices like this. There are those who are strictly against the use of cannabis for any purpose whatsoever, while there are also those who are only major proponents for the legalization of the drug, mostly because they just want to legally be allowed to get high.

Syqe Medical plans to begin use of the device for further testing purposes in hospitals sometime before the end of the year, and then make it available for outside-hospital use sometime in 2015.

What do you think? Will a device like this finally end the debate as to whether cannabis should be legalized for medical purposes? Discuss in the 3D Printed Syqe Cannabis Inhaler forumthread on 3DPB.com.

This is excellent to move Cannabis forward on the path of mainstream acceptance as a medicine but this vaporizer will most definitely be a flop among stoners.

Well stock maybe.......bigger tanks, extract feed, dual superchargers......we could have a goer here guys.....

If the battery doesn't go flat.

I like the ultrasonic idea, but without peeking I bet it takes even more energy than traditional heaters we already have battery life issues with.

Fun packaging idea and all, but those same old nagging Physics rules are still in play. I bet they have more hours invested in marketing than design/test per month.

Eventually we'll have vapor delivery systems (nebulizers) of the sort we daydream of, but I seriously doubt they'll be using such tiny loads of bud, probably a liquid along the lines of Pure Gold more likely? And our favorite drug is not what's going to drive it, I think. More traditional pain killers will. On demand, needless, fast acting Morphine kinds of applications will carry the flag I think. Bridging off more potent, already widely accepted drug while offering patient easier/faster access and the doctor better recording and control. Trying to introduce the straights to THC only complicates that all the more. That's where the big bucks is to start with as well, which never hurts. Scraps from that table could be a treat, of course.

Or not.

Still, one can hope, guess?

Salutations everybody,

If the battery doesn't go flat. ...we already have battery life issues with... ...those same old nagging Physics rules are still in play.

The present context may come to change should some new NanoFoil® marerial (illustrated below) ever happen to be adaptable for use in food-safe portable applications. It seems to me no battery may even be needed anymore, at least i wonder if a piezo-electric spark (as that inside a butane lighter) wouldn't suffice to trigger this whole novel reaction...

Actually isn't it fumes we can see rise on the video linked above? More precisely, could this be digital oils being vaporized by the way?...
39.gif
Go figure, hey!!

Who knows!...

...but I seriously doubt they'll be using such tiny loads...

Well those tiny 15 mg doses might avoid anti-cannabic prohibition obstacles and even prove to render possible an "explosive" revolution (so to speak!), eventually. Not to mention there are potent synthetic cannabic molecules which could become useful in such tiny amounts, especially for children epilepsy that may not require much i guess, etc., whatever.

:uhoh:

...probably a liquid along the lines of Pure Gold more likely?

A transparent film of noble goodies condensed on a polyimide substrate integrating NanoFoil technology as its primary power source (and possibly with gold in between, etc...) may be all that's required for controlling bigots who waited a long time for an opportunity to declare war to vaporizer/e-Cig "paraphernalia" on the public place.

This could be it so, really, so i'd be worried how that might affect electoral support after the average population is told every patient can get a Syqe that won't induce the evil "euphorisant" effects of « Marijuana » !...

Think of it! Such particular governement-subsided monopoly mix would just seem perfect to some individuals: little power electronics involved if any at all (or maybe some operating from a button-cell to empower 3rd-party control freaks who rejected the piezo-actuator scenario, for example), etc...

Briefly put i love the hypothetical prospect but i don't like its potential for nuisance - to us. Because if the patients and their sympathisant electorat are happy then who's still gonna care for "stoners" rights anyway?!...

As a result of what they said was slightly misleading reportage in the international media, Davidson and Amihood stressed that the point of the Syqe Inhaler “is not that it is aimed at preventing its user from getting high; rather that the patient and doctor are able, with 100-microgram increments, to have control over the level of psychoactivity and symptom relief, allowing them to find the optimum balance.”

The inhaler has a removable cartridge with up to 100 miniature slots, each of which holds 15 milligrams of cannabis granules to last more than a week. Users will be able to swap empty cartridges for full ones at pharmacies every month or so.

tYou can get high with Syqe. Since one cartridge fits 1.5g total you can probably get really really high with Syqe. Still not high? Just grab another cartridge. There might be a small problem how to go from weed to cartridge weed but FU is smart. We'll figure something out.
