Discontinued Sublimator XLR

First time posting here. Have been reading for a while. Sublimator basically swooped in and rescued me from combustion. Only relatively recently discovered I enjoy the herb (1 year ago) but was over combustion real quick between the high rate of consumption and the invasive stank and the general hatred of depositing plant tar in my system. I was a chronic bronchitis sufferer in childhood so that was just not going to work. Messed around with Arizer's products when I first started transitioning, the Solo and the Extreme Q. They solved the combustion problem but the vapor was anemic compared to smoking, the effect just wasn't quite as satisfying.

In came the Sublimator, truly the "Have your cake and eat it too" system for vapor enthusiasts. I remember I was shopping for different glassware for the Arizer Solo on Planet Vape's website when I first saw the scrolling ad. Looked it up on YouTube to see it in action, had a FatBoy Stainless unit built up and ordered the next day. Had it for about 6 months now, absolutely no issues and still can't get over the novelty of practically drinking vapor milk out of the thing. My Jamaican friend who naturally prefers combustion gets absolutely wrecked every time he tries it. His assessment is pretty funny - "You white people and your artificial sorcery..."

One observation I've had - Everyone hates that 1 hour timer with such a passion. Does everyone here realize you can just double tap the knob for an instant timer reset? Mine doesn't even reset the temp. I just sit there and remember I haven't hit it in a while, double tap, and it's done. It's a smart feature for all the reasons Enrico has given. If you really have that much of a problem with a single extra second of effort, you pretty much deserve your non-enjoyment of literally the best thing on the market right now
Dude, a single extra second of effort is just not a reasonable characterization of the nuisance that the timer can be to many of us. You have really embellished here.

First of all, most grades of stainless steel are much more effective heat conductors than titanium, so SS units will heat up quicker than ti models. The guys who were reporting longer heatup times that I have noticed in this thread all own ti units. You are comparing apples and oranges.

My ti dabmaster definitely took a solid 30-45 mins to heat up depending on the set temp (out of the box!) and like you; I watched all videos with Enrico online before I bought the sub and knew you can jack up the heat at the start to warm up quicker and double tap the button to reset the timer.

I have major problems with anxiety, and recent as of yet unpublished research by colleagues of mine (I am a psych researcher) has demonstrated that when an individual experiences anxiety, this has negative effects on encoding and recall of memories. This means that at the times I need to medicate the most, I am most likely not to remember resetting a sublimator timer. Then when I walk away to get back to my work and before my next hit the timer often runs out.

This does not require only a single extra second of effort, depending on when the timer ran out I would often find myself waiting 15 mins all the way up to full heat up period (up to 40 mins!) before I could take a hit. Remembering to tap the sub on and off may be reasonable for you - it isn't for me.

You guys who are not medical users might be cool with the rationalization that 'if you forget, you're too baked' but I sometimes need to get extremely medicated to fight off really intrusive mental health symptoms and this rationalization isn't gonna help my symptoms while I wait for the sub to warm up coz it timed out just when needed it because I felt a panic attack coming on, for instance.

I know you probably didn't mean to, but don't presume to try and tell people like me that we deserve not to enjoy something just because it was designed in a way that makes it impractical for us! I am a medical user and will vape in the way that meets my health requirements and suits my extremely busy lifestyle, not in the way that a manufacturer who has no understanding of my medical needs limits me to.

I didn't write this in a PM because it is really important that all users here, new and old, understand that a substantial portion of this community are users with medical needs! When we have gripes that might seem a bit 'precious' to you, it may be that our specific medical needs have been overlooked!

I support recreational users wholeheartedly (but indeed, you may be a medical user yourself), I just don't appreciate the sentiment that I deserve a negative experience with an expensive device just because a design choice made it impractical for me. I'm sure you appreciate where I'm coming from.

I understand where you're coming from man, but i'm just saying for most users (like myself) it isn't a deal-breaker (hence why I bought yours off you in the first place ;) haha). I wasn't trying to offend any medical users with my comments and I apologize if I did.

Also on the topic of heat-up times, I'd like to also add I think it also does vary a lot depending on the environment, like for instance mine was taking almost an 1 hour to heat-up to get proper equilibrium until I realized the very weak cool breeze from my air-con set on the lowest setting was dramatically effecting the heat-up speed.

I thought of another way to beat the timer :p

"Sub is really not the 'be all and end all' of vaporization . . . in fact for many, it is only the beginning."

Hey you stole my line! :p 13:20

Oh sorry :|

If stolen it was subconsciously.

But anyway, I really do think that I've had enough here and I'm just gonna stop posting in this thread altogether now.

The warmth and love which is clearly apparent in many of the threads here on FC never seems to have permeated in to this particular thread, at least in my opinion . . .

All good mate :) It was more Sublimator427's post that concluded with a less-than-kind sentiment towards people whom the timer is an issue for. The long and the short of it is that we all have different requirements. I wish there was a sub that met my needs available right now, because I agree that as a flower vape (and for non-melting concentrates too, tied with the vapman!) it is as good as it gets.

Lol at the simpsons reference I'm pretty sure someone posted that solution to the timer in the other sub thread! :p

ahahahahaha @ the air conditioning slowing down the heat up time! I definitely decided early on it was worth setting up the sub in another room if I had air conditioning.

I find air conditioner can fuck with e-nails as well. Same with wind if you try to use one outdoors! Hey has anyone ever tried to use a sub outside?

Titanium does not hold heat very well.

The sub's cartridge heater doesn't know what room it is in, a six is a six. An enail is taking the temp inside the element, the last place to be effected by the room temp.

I bet the new pid SUB is taking the temp inside the element so you will have the same prob with your air conditioning.

It looks ugly, but a temp prob on the outside of your sub would solve your problem. You would need a pid controller too. This way the heater fires at 100% all the time and the temp probe is measuring the mass in a way that reflects the room temp. PIDs are easier on heaters than dimmers.

Seeing as how I own an XLR sub, I wasn't inclined to comb through 200+ pages of previous generation material. This is the XLR thread, which contained XLR complaints, which have XLR solutions that had not been posted here yet, in the XLR thread. That's all it was really. And in the process of all this we seem to have proven a lot of these controllers left the factory with mixed capabilities, and I'd say that makes for a good case with the manufacturer to get a better one under warranty for anyone so inclined.

And yes, there are definitely people out there making bold and inventive moves to improve their experience with this machine, i.e. the DIY extension cords. Those are the ones I applaud. But this isn't my first product review forum I've been on either, and all too often there's a segment that still finds something to take issue with even in the face of an easy solution. I've read plenty of those posts too, and that's where the "light a fire under your butt" mentality comes in. You know who you are lol. As for anyone with emergency response considerations, that is a different issue entirely which obviously transcends this particular matter.

Finally, in regards to Stainless Steel vs. Titanium, I remember reading somewhere here that Titanium heats up much faster. If that's incorrect and it's actually the other way around, why the $50 premium for something that performs worse? Is the Titanium supposed to last longer over time? I do know Titanium turns to that crazy purple color after a while.

I'd imagine titanium should last longer over time and taste better and be better for oils, that's the general consensuses and why you don't really see people dabbing off stainless steel.

Thanks for clearing that up, makes sense now. I used to regret not going for the titanium to save a buck, but now I see it's actually a good thing since I do use dry material 95% of the time.

There's an argument to be made for the stainless as it appears to heat-up and retain heat better than the titanium. If you're just using flowers I think you made a good choice.

There is another major point to the Ti/SS debate is that you can take Ti Head , but you still have a SS bowl so the difference remains minor to me.

The thermal aspect for th Ti is a down point.

For the record i used this winter a SS dab master outside at a solid 5°C, i had to crank to it up but after the heating time it performed as intended.

My Apollo touched down this morning. 6 day turn around.
I forgot how hard the sub hits. It makes my LSV seem like a toy.

New member here. I own the Herbalizer and now a sub xlr2.0 Apollo and I'm very happy with both. However, the sub gets me extraordinarily medicated with very little material. I'm still adjusting temperature to fit my taste but the power this thing has is really hard to believe.
Anyways , sorry for the rambling just thought I would share my simple review.

Does anyone know when we'll be able to buy some of the new glass products from Sublimator? The Instagram account is always showing new things, but they're never in the store or on Planetvape.ca.

This is one of the points to consider when the initial price tag puts people off at first. Yes, let's be real, for basic electronics and a couple hunks of metal it's way overpriced. Despite this, it still pays dividends in the long term as the amount of material that used to last a week for example is now lasting closer to a month. Not to mention the benefit of being able to go at it all day without stinking up the joint, I've found that the vapors and aromas dissipate very quickly into a faint hint of burnt toast.

Anyone tried using some Blaze 45mm glass tubes on a Sublimator kit?

Any opinions on which reclaimer is better? (Standard stainless Steel Base vs. Sub-Buddy)

Last. I've always felt water enhances smoothness but is there anyone that can argue that Sublimator is better when used dry?

Pulling the trigger on a purchase in the next few days so if you have any opinon/experience on this please comment

I never use water with the sub, I just use a dry water pipe with ice for maximum smoothness and effect. All water will do is get smelly and dirty and slightly reduce the potency of the medication.

Using a simple water pipe with ice for home and personal use also makes things easier with the actual stainless steel Sublimator base. It was a bit of a pain to break it all down into the components for proper cleaning every time, but now with a water pipe in the rotation which is much easier to clean, the regular sub base can sit pretty and look nicer when I break it down and bring it to friend's places lol

Here is a 45mm top tube with an ice pinch from Gear that is a very good fit for adding ice conditioning to the actual sub base. I'll be ordering the red and black one myself soon.

I have noticed a good amount of build up when I use water. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure ice creates even more of it. Which I agree does decrease potency. Definitly smooths the hit tremendously tho

I was leaning towards the adapt a bong kit but if hitting dry is the better more potent option I might be deciding on the full stainless steel master kit. It seems like a whole lot more sturdy and safe option. Plus it looks official. It's just $250 more -_-

OG Double D would say ball out and get the master kit. Living luxury and all that.

I just might have to now.. Thats my dude. R.I.P. OG D

Only thing holding me back is that whip mouthpeice. Lookin like it's got some mad drag. Anyone tested it out? Also any opinions on the 12" vs. 3" kit?

There really isn't much drag to speak of with the whip, it just takes a little longer to clear by nature of a longer thinner airway. It also has the added benefit of being able to sit back with and pass around more easily.

I personally feel the 12" kit is way more fun as you get to watch the column of vapor rise to the top. The 3" kit just looks weird and stunted to me, I guess it works if space and portability is a consideration. I would also recommend the glass upgrade tubes from Planet Vape instead of the acrylic Sublimator ones. Glass is always better, and it's seriously thick glass so you'll have to try hard to break it.

Have you considered building one yourself instead of the kits? I built mine up at Planet Vape, got the FatBoy stainless base with a choke tier and an optional 45mm tier and the glass 12" tube. Haven't seen another one like it yet, love being able to add the options as if you were ordering a car. The choke tier is super useful if you don't want to be bothered with lifting the entire element and bowl to clear.

Here's how I built mine up. I do need to replace my whip tubing, it's getting grungy after 6 months lol
