First time posting here. Have been reading for a while. Sublimator basically swooped in and rescued me from combustion. Only relatively recently discovered I enjoy the herb (1 year ago) but was over combustion real quick between the high rate of consumption and the invasive stank and the general hatred of depositing plant tar in my system. I was a chronic bronchitis sufferer in childhood so that was just not going to work. Messed around with Arizer's products when I first started transitioning, the Solo and the Extreme Q. They solved the combustion problem but the vapor was anemic compared to smoking, the effect just wasn't quite as satisfying.
In came the Sublimator, truly the "Have your cake and eat it too" system for vapor enthusiasts. I remember I was shopping for different glassware for the Arizer Solo on Planet Vape's website when I first saw the scrolling ad. Looked it up on YouTube to see it in action, had a FatBoy Stainless unit built up and ordered the next day. Had it for about 6 months now, absolutely no issues and still can't get over the novelty of practically drinking vapor milk out of the thing. My Jamaican friend who naturally prefers combustion gets absolutely wrecked every time he tries it. His assessment is pretty funny - "You white people and your artificial sorcery..."
One observation I've had - Everyone hates that 1 hour timer with such a passion. Does everyone here realize you can just double tap the knob for an instant timer reset? Mine doesn't even reset the temp. I just sit there and remember I haven't hit it in a while, double tap, and it's done. It's a smart feature for all the reasons Enrico has given. If you really have that much of a problem with a single extra second of effort, you pretty much deserve your non-enjoyment of literally the best thing on the market right now
Dude, a single extra second of effort is just not a reasonable characterization of the nuisance that the timer can be to many of us. You have really embellished here.
First of all, most grades of stainless steel are much more effective heat conductors than titanium, so SS units will heat up quicker than ti models. The guys who were reporting longer heatup times that I have noticed in this thread all own ti units. You are comparing apples and oranges.
My ti dabmaster definitely took a solid 30-45 mins to heat up depending on the set temp (out of the box!) and like you; I watched all videos with Enrico online before I bought the sub and knew you can jack up the heat at the start to warm up quicker and double tap the button to reset the timer.
I have major problems with anxiety, and recent as of yet unpublished research by colleagues of mine (I am a psych researcher) has demonstrated that when an individual experiences anxiety, this has negative effects on encoding and recall of memories. This means that at the times I need to medicate the most, I am most likely not to remember resetting a sublimator timer. Then when I walk away to get back to my work and before my next hit the timer often runs out.
This does not require only a single extra second of effort, depending on when the timer ran out I would often find myself waiting 15 mins all the way up to full heat up period (up to 40 mins!) before I could take a hit. Remembering to tap the sub on and off may be reasonable for you - it isn't for me.
You guys who are not medical users might be cool with the rationalization that 'if you forget, you're too baked' but I sometimes need to get extremely medicated to fight off really intrusive mental health symptoms and this rationalization isn't gonna help my symptoms while I wait for the sub to warm up coz it timed out just when needed it because I felt a panic attack coming on, for instance.
I know you probably didn't mean to, but don't presume to try and tell people like me that we deserve not to enjoy something just because it was designed in a way that makes it impractical for us! I am a medical user and will vape in the way that meets my health requirements and suits my extremely busy lifestyle, not in the way that a manufacturer who has no understanding of my medical needs limits me to.
I didn't write this in a PM because it is really important that all users here, new and old, understand that a substantial portion of this community are users with medical needs! When we have gripes that might seem a bit 'precious' to you, it may be that our specific medical needs have been overlooked!
I support recreational users wholeheartedly (but indeed, you may be a medical user yourself), I just don't appreciate the sentiment that I deserve a negative experience with an expensive device just because a design choice made it impractical for me. I'm sure you appreciate where I'm coming from.
