Sticky Brick Labs Vaporizer

This is a really tough question to answer. My comment about people having an aversion to butane comes from general advice inquiries that I see over on Reddit. Whether that aversion is logical is something that I can't speak for. I believe it just comes from the fact that some simply prefer pushing a button rather than dealing with a torch. And to be fair, an SBL vape will be harder to use in certain situations vs a dynavap. For instance, if I am in a room with a ceiling fan and I am sitting to close to that fan, the breeze from the fan will affect the flame of the torch to where I can't get a reasonable hit.

The process does look simple and some get it right away but there are so many different variables involved in getting the brick to hit correctly. Type of lighter used, length of flame, distance of flame tip to intake, angle of flame relative to intake, draw speed, whether or not draw speed is pulsed, whether or not the distance of flame to intake is changed during draw, etc. For me, these are all the reasons why I like the brick. I love the amount of control that I have with my SBLs.

This all said, the bricks can hit extremely hard and with great flavor and efficiency. If your issue if bowl size, that won't be a problem with a brick. The bowls are plenty big and I honestly never fill them all the way. Additionally, because of how big the bowl is and the way its positioned, its the best whole bud vape that I have. Sometimes, I don't care to grind and I will just toss a nug into the bowl. Rip it a couple of times and then break it up and stir and vape until cashed. The flavor when using this method on the first hit is pretty nice since you're not losing anything through the grind process.

If you're considering a brick, this a good time. SBL will be having a 3 year anniversary sale 6/3-6/5 and offering 25% off (Promo Code is 3YEARS). I would recommend the Jr. as a first brick. If you like using water pieces, I would highly recommend the WPA but I don't recommend the bubbler with the Jr. (I do for the runt). This said, you really shouldn't start using a WPA until you have somewhat mastered the technique natively.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have more Qs.

This vape has the most varied user experience that I've ever seen so the more input that is provided, the better. Thanks for jumping in there.

Thanks for this detailed post. I've never tried any SBL vapes and this sale seems like a good time and I'm left wondering about the strengths of each model. I don't vape at a table so I'm guessing the hydrobrick options aren't for me. If you have any extra comments to differentiate the OG, Jr, and runt I'm all ears.

I like the wooden topper of the Jr for storage so that's what I'm leaning toward now. The big mouthpiece on the OG looks great but I seldom vape more than a Splinter basket screen at once so I'm not sure how bowl size and efficiency change from model to model.

The OG is my daily driver for a good reason. It delivers! Large glass, easy to hold and rips or can microdose. The Jr is ok but doesn't deliver as much volume of vapor. The FB is nice, it's like having a bong rip. It comes with all adapters so you are good to go. The easiest way to hit a brick is with a flame going sideways across the intake. When you get better, then you can shoot it down the tube. Good luck with your choice!

How much do you vape in the OG vs the Jr generally?

I was following the G43 thread for a while and stepped back when I saw that folks were scooping .3g into that glass joint and trying to cache it in one hit.

My Splinters are my favorite vapes and even running them hot it still takes me three huge hits to vape a tenth of a gram. And I like that sort of efficient cloud production.

Is the brick lineup happy with .05 to
.1g loads or does it perform better with a full bowl like the Mighty?

Can you talk more about this @flammy? I have been interested in the bubbler for my Runt. I sold the wpa because I got too frustrated early on, before I mastered dry. Wish I would have held on to it.

Thanks bud.

It works well with the runt due to the way that the runt breaks apart when you load herb into the chamber. It still allows for the runt to stay upright which then also allows for the bubbler to stay upright when attached to the runt. With the Jr., its just a bit awkward. I personally don't use the bubbler that much with the runt. It can't hold that much water without splashback. I purchases it as a package with my runt which reduced the price and then there was as sale. It is a nice piece of glass and comes with a nice stand as well. I just prefer to use my wpa most of the times.

The OG does have a larger bowl and longer air path so it can give the biggest rips. The draw however is slightly more restrictive which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I personally prefer my junior. The fact that everything tucks away neatly is a big bonus for me. You wouldn't think of this vape as typical portable but I take it friends' houses all the time. You can still travel with the runt or OG but you will probably need to separately pack the glass and stir tool. The efficiency is pretty much the same between the 3. If there is a difference, I can't seem to tell.

They all work really well. A lot of comes down to how you think you will use it. If you are mostly at home and it won't really move that much, the OG is certainly a good choice simply due to the longer air path. In all honesty, the runt and Jr perform so similarly, I could have done without my runt but I really like SBL vapes and I'm happy to support them.

Let me know if you have more Qs.

@bossman I put in a small amount in any brick. Less is better, too much material and it less efficient. Remember that Bricks are a convection vape. I hit my OG a couple times and come back to it later. I am a sipper, an occasional ripper.

You should try cruise mode with your splinter z. Talk about kickass with efficiency! It is fj's tubo settings.

Thanks for the skinny on the sticky, as it were. Draw resistance does tend to annoy me. My Tubo X was too open and I eventually sold it. In all other cases I prefer more open draws. The Splinters and Mighty are my ideal.

I mainly use my Splinters followed by vapcaps with an IH and then the Fierce or Mighty. Nearly all of my usage is at home which argues for the OG. I do like to store my vapes in a big box so the tidy closed look of the Jr seems like something I might appreciate too.

Fuck yeah, I have a VTC Dual with fj for cruising and myevic on a rxg3d that's super handy for cruising with the V2. The 2019 M is the only non Splinter purchase I've managed in a good long while because I keep coming back to the thought, "well.. maybe for this money I could get a ZV1 or ZV2!" SAS is real.

Yeah Bossman, just like cpk said a small load is the way to go, at least with the Maxx. I get multiple rips .. rips..from really small loads and as my skill with it increases I'll be able to milk it more. It seems like my abv isn't very dark when I dump it because I'm gunshy about combustion still.
You mentioned you are leaning toward the jr. since it has the cover. I totally get that. I wanted the OG brick and lusted after it for a long time but I ended up with the hydro maxx simply because of the box up mode. Not that interested in water more that I love how it looks.
I am new to the SBL army but I think you will really like whatever you choose.

I like the OG the best out of the 3. It hits like a bong with massive hits. And is easiest to use & less prone 2 combustion(for me). The runt would be next. Followed by the Jr. If you have big hands & bad eyes the size can be challenging. You cant go wrong if u take the time to learn them.

Cha-kow! Just ordered a black limba OG with the 25% code. My first Brick and I'm thankful to you guys for the input.

Nice! Congrats! The main appeal of the og for me is that I can take it to the edge of combustion if wanted. We all try and squeeze out that one last hit that really isn't there. Then at the same time you can take a nice mellow hit. Enjoy.

This 25% sale has me looking very hard at a Maxx. Sbl website says that it comes with whip and adapter. Does that mean it comes with the 18mm female adapter for the built in 18mm male end, PLUS 1 adapter of my choice? It seems like I would need the 18mm female for the Maxx end of the whip, and a 14mm male for my bong end of the whip.

I might be getting ahead of myself. Can anyone compare the experience between a Maxx and a runt? Draw resistance, with and without water usage, etc?

just ordered a curly maple og! I haven’t used a torch since I got my induction heater. After hearing so many great things I had to give it a try.
Good work. My og is scheduled to be delivered today! I too don't fuck with torches since getting civilized (i.e. CIVILIZED) and like you I figured the sale was justification to see what all the fuss was about.

For those more experienced than us:
Any tips or initial cleaning/prep steps I should know about? Does the OG have a restrictor disk like I've heard folks mention for other models?

Yes it comes with a restrictor disc. A drop of dawn dishsoap& hot water 2 clean the glass. Start with the outer blue flame of the torch just kissing the intake stem. As u take a slow draw adjust the distance of the flame till u see vapor. When u see vapor start drawing fast & enjoy

Your best bet is to use the cork and restrictor disc. You would think it would be easy to just cover the hole with your finger but there is so much going on you will forget. The restrictor disc pretty much makes it impossible to combust but takes away from the sheer power of the OG. Aim your flame shooting across your intake and watch the vapor appear. I use a Scorchie from amz. Toss the disc as you can so you can really appreciate the OG. Keep using the cork, then you can also toss it. Have fun and enjoy!!!

All bricks come with a restrictor disc now. I only have a restrictor disc in the brick that I let my friends use. Otherwise, I don't use them since it is harder to get big hits with it installed.

The interesting thing about bricks is that everyone has a different technique. This said, the OG is probably the easiest to learn on since you can easily see the vapor develop in the MP. With the straight intakes, placing the flame across the intake and then having your draw bring it into the intake is probably the best method especially if you aren't using disc. The flame doesn't necessarily need to be perfectly perpendicular to the intake. You're just trying to avoid putting the flame down the intake as that can lead to combustion easier.

Be sure to change/clean the screens when you notice more draw restriction. I don't think there is any need to deep clean the bricks ever but good to clear out the air path of chunky resin.

This 25% has me tempted too but I know I shouldn't.

Just got mine and first, super fast shipping for a very reasonable price. That’s a solid move!

Anyways, took me a few bowls to figure out the carb, amount of herb to use, and still figuring out the technique for the flame. But so far this thing hits so hard. I just love when the flame hits it just right and you see the glass turn to that perfect milky white, just before combustion.

Quick question, I’m using the super high quality butane (14x filtered or whatever it is) but I feel like I’m tasting it a bit. My suspicion is that the flame is too close, but when I move it further away I get less extraction. Do I just need to find the sweet spot?

Damn that limba looks nice. Sweet pickup @bossman!

I might be in the minority here, but I feel like I can go way bigger clouds with the restrictor disk in.

Full disclosure: I had some good hits without the disk, but I never would say I mastered it. Most often, I'd get hot spots followed by combustion, to really light hits with the torch all the way in the intake. I never got a consistently good experience.

So I run my SBrunt with the disk in, fully carbed. Triple flame torch about 1.5in long, about 2in away from the intake. Instant vapor, instantly. And the entire time it's vapor. Speed up your draw if you want make the bowl go further.

With the disk in, it increases the time before combustion, but does not prevent combustion. I think the mentality of the community is that you can't combust with the disk in, which is not correct.

I also believe that when the restrictor disk is in, as it takes longer for combustion to occur, the intake air is more evenly heated, allowing for more even vaporization. The only time I get uneven extraction now is if I tamp the bowl weird, or I add a dab off center.

Open to discuss. If there is something I can try different that will make the SBrunt hit harder, I'm always down to learn. Cheers homies.
