I wish I could help with questions on butane. But my best advice is to only buy from a quality cigar store or an adult shop that you trust. They will only sell quality typically as their customer base won't buy the garbage.
@Flow my birthday present arrived. Of course I still didn't reup and buy anything because who would think that I was on Santa's nice list and the post office got it to me just as I woke up this morning. But I had to test it out. So I took some abv from my Crafty+ that may contain some leftover crumble. Well, let's just say I'm wrecked on ABV for the first time ever. I have such a high tolerance that ABV never gets me lifted. I'm legitimately on the moon from 6 x 2 hit bowls at 550 of ABV.

This will be my first experience with on-demand vapour. Any tips for a first timer? I’m going to pick up some puretane tomorrow from the local shop.

OK, I'm really new around here *waves to everyone* so new that this is actually my first post. Also, I have only had my Runt for a week, and have only been exclusively vaping for about a month. With that said, here is my input. It's long because I have been using my Runt and am therefore talkative.
As far as wood goes, first off the OG is going to be really nice looking in cherry. Congratulations on your purchase!

I would make sure the restrictor disc is in place properly before you try it out. Mine was in the wrong hole, the one you breathe in from. No biggie, but I didn't find it until I was putting butter on the device the first time.
I would highly recommend using restrictor disc at first at least for a while. I am still using mine and I am getting huge clouds. (I plan on following advice I read somewhere on here to wait until I can do it with my eyes closed and then maybe try taking out the disc.) I find the disc really helps to prevent combustion. I have only combusted twice I think. Once very early on when my disc wasn't installed, and a tiny bit one other time. Even with the disc in the hits are huge, so I may just keep it in. I certainly don't feel like the hits I am getting from my Runt are restricted!
I have so far been using the included lighter (I got the Honest) and it's been fine. As many have pointed out get some high quality butane.
I followed the instructions included regarding flame length and where you put the flame when using. With the Runt at least, you can hear a kind of whistle when you hit it right, although you have to be inhaling slightly more to get it. If the draw stem is relatively clean in the Runt you can see when the vapor starts to come and that's when you increase your draw speed. I also also usually back the torch off a little. With the bigger mouthpiece on the OG I would imagine it's even easier to see and feel. Start slow and increase draw speed when the vapor starts to come. Prepare for lift off
I have not been using the cork because I have found feathering the carb hole to be another good way to see if vapor is flowing. The change in the stem when I feather it gives me a good idea of how vapor is flowing.
I have also been cleaning/replacing the screen a lot, but I have also been using almost nothing else but my Runt since I got it. I probably clean/replace the screen every day. I really like the free flowing draw from the runt, so as soon as it starts getting restricted I replace the screen. I just pull the old one out and throw it in iso, and put in another. They include five or six and they could last a while if you iso cleaned or torched them as needed. Also as many on here have pointed out they are cheap and not hard to find.
So based on the fact that I have used almost nothing else since I got it a week ago, you can probably tell that I really love my Runt. I got it after seeing it on a Modern Cannabists video about 'heaviest hitting vapes' as well as watching lots of other videos and reading lots of reviews (and these forums, see below). I really love everything about my Runt. The effects are just fantastic; the best I have ever experienced with a vaporizer (with that said, please know that my experience with flower vapes is fairly limited [Gaia/DynavapM/Solo2/SB Runt]). The Runt has seriously activated my new found VAS and I already want another sticky brick. Hmm...a junior in purpleheart? an OG in walnut? a Maxx in anything?
Another thing, I find the tactile nature of just using my Runt to be immensely satisfying. Taking the top off to stir, pulling out the handy stir stick and popping it back in its hole, snapping the piece back in place with a satisfying click. That, combined with the smoking like nature of torching into the input tube, the smooth feel of the wood, the traditional pipe like nature of the carb, it's just... *chef's kiss* The device is a joy to use in my opinion, and not just because of the effects. I really love it.
The visual aspect of them is nice too. They are functional art. My Runt is canary and it's beautiful. The cherry OG will be stunning.
I still love my Dynavaps, and they'll always have a place in my rotation. The Solo 2 is a good basic electronic vape, and I'm not sad I bought it. But the clouds and the effects from the sticky brick are on another level. I first really got into my Dynavap 2019 M because it was the first vape I tried that got me closer to where I wanted to be effects wise. The Runt gets me there. It really is so good. As soon as I got that first really huge, combustion like hit, and then looked in the chamber and saw it was still green, I knew I had found my jam. The first couple days I would very frequently I get a hit so big that I think I must have combusted, only to look in the chamber and see fairly light brown material. The extraction you can get with the Runt is just amazing. If you want to beat it down until it is really dark brown, you can reduce the initial volume of the material by more than half. It might not taste fantastic those last few hits, but if you want to get the most out of your material, this will do it.
Last but certainly not least, I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who discussed the Stick Brick line on these forums. I searched them and read a lot about it on here before I purchased one, and it helped. So thank you all. And Hi again.

Also, did I miss what type of wood you got your Runt? I got a Canary about 7 months ago. I too use the restriction disk always since I require it when I use my 4 outlet torch for very fast extraction like on a water pipe and native one hit clears. So I just leave it in and feel no loss of control.

Be brave. Don't stop inhaling and using your torch when you start to get vapor. Some end too soon and get baby hits as they get scared of combustion. Don't be scared. Just keep trying and you'll get it in time.
I’ve had it for 5 months and have never really gotten the hang of it. For reference, I also own a Nova (similar vape), as well as owned a Junior; and have/had no problems with either. I also own other convection vapes (Firewood 5, 6), and understand the convection style of draw; so I’m not sure that’s the issue.
Below is good advice as I had similar issues at the beginning. Also, having a clean screen makes a WORLD of difference. Now, even with the restrictor disc out, I’m still unable to get it to extract anything past light brown. I’ve tried multiple torches (vertigo serpent, blazer pocket micro mainly). With these I've tried a bunch of different flame lengths, as well as varying flame distance - from just the blue tip touching the intake, to in the intake - all to no avail.
I’ve also tried draw speeds from as slow-as-humanly-possible, to faster. Faster gives me wispy and butane-flavored vapor, while slow has caused my finger to get burned while holding it over the carb (!?). I've switched out screens, tried a Jr. mouthpiece on it, the WPA - none of it matters. I also listen for the jet sound people describe, and hear it - but this doesn't matter.
No matter what I try I can't get consistent, thick vapor, no matter what the material. I'm also forced to draw forever until my lungs max out to get anything going. My ABV is always light brown at most, never charred, dark, etc. I've honestly tried to combust just so I can see where the edge is and how to get near it, but I don't think I could get this thing to combust no matter what I tried, which seems crazy. I can and have combusted in my Nova, and the Jr. as well. Neither of these had issues with extracting my material. This device has been really confusing, and frustrating!
You provided some good insight into your technique, so I'd like to get some more info on your herb. If you aren't already, I'm a big fan of lightly tamping down the bowl. Tamping creates more resistance and allows heat to build up in the bowl. When I had trouble building heat, I didn't tamp at all. My grind was typically on the medium/fine side. I always filled the bowl to the bevel and then tamped down light.

Thanks! I actually have a really nice Canary wood SB tamp/stir tool from Rogue Wax Works which I've used to tamp my loads. Although per the above I think I need to give it a more solid tamp, rather than super light (just enough to keep it in the bowl). I also don't usually re-tamp after stirs, so I'll try that too.
The only thing I can think of that may be hurting your chances for a good solid hit is maybe your torch flame is just a drop too low. It may be long enough for your junior and nova but not long enough for the slightly larger Runt and it's larger distance between the intake and the bowl.

I did this today, including after stirring, and the performance was drastically improved, as was the color of my ABV. I also bumped my flame up a bit too. It’s now hitting like a brick!
