The easiest way I've found to get an even extraction is by using a very fast draw speed and keeping the carb closed.I'm having a hard time getting even extraction with the Junior, even after stirring a few times in a session. I'll put @ 0.1 in the chamber, and on the first 1-2 hits, the vapor is amazing but the load gets baked very unevenly, so I stir, hit it again, it's still not even, so I repeat it just to get more even extraction but by then, I'm just drawing blanks despite still having pieces of greenish herb mixed in with the brown AVB. My hits are all in the 8-15 second range. 1" flame on the lighter, and I pulse the flame towards and away from the intake just like others have recommended.
So it feels like I can either A) get awesome hits with big clouds and just deal with the uneven extraction which makes me feel like I'm wasting herb, or B) stir and vape until its evenly cooked, but those last few hits are nothing but wood taste and I'm wasting butane by trying to get perfectly even extraction. This dilemma happens whether I use coarse or fine grind.
Anything I can do to reduce this occurrence? Should I or shouldn't I tamp the herb down?
Despite that gripe, the vapor out of this thing on the full hits is SERIOUSLY nice. Very smooth, full of flavor.
I start with a slow to medium draw, and when I can see/taste/feel vapor I increase my draw speed a lot. I draw almost as fast as possible at the end. I continue to hit it for a couple of seconds after removing heat to cool the intake.
Using this technique I get no hot spots. When I first developed this technique I still stirred every hit or two. I've recently been experimenting with no stir at all and it's been working really well.
I can go through a full chamber with no stir. It does tend to get a little bit of a hot spot at the end sometimes, when it is already pretty thoroughly extracted. Because of this I sometimes do a stir at the very end, before the last hit. Sometimes I just empty and save my ABV at that point.
