Discontinued Sonic vaporizer

I don't think the Davinci issue had anything to do with packaging IMO. It was parts from within. I've never seen any vape have a smell issue from packing. The biggest issue for the davinci, again IMO, was the lid. It made cleaning and filling a challenge.

I will say this, the original kicked - it had lot's of power. Not so much as far as holding a charge but with that being said when she was charged she kicked fucking ass.

can someone tell me where i can find more infos about the davince smell issue here on the board, so i can compare them?

My DaVinci definitely did have an issue with smell that came from the foam insert in the packaging. It had a nasty tennis shoe rubbery smell that clearly came from the foam that it had been packaged in. Once removed from the foam, the smell went away in a week or two. All the info is there on the DaVinci thread if you search some of my posts.

I don't think they used that foam very long. So not that many DVs had this particular issue iirc.

I would start in portable vaporizers, look for davinci.

good to know. actually there is some foam in the sonic package, too! at first the whole device smelled bad when heating, even on the outside. right now i just can smell/taste it when i open the herb chamber while heating. anyway, I don't want to put herbs in before the smell is completely gone.

mrweed in my limited experience, doing "dry" burns with some vaporizers will make them smell worse. I have noticed this with the DaVinci and the NO2 at least.

Just wanted to throw that out there. Peace All.

(even running AVB seems better then an empty Vape.).................:2c:

well a good vaporizer should not smell at all and I've made the opposit experience, actually. lots of vaporizers require you to "burn off the production leavings" once and than they're ready to go! Of course there is no such info anywhere in the manual.
It's a bit better already, though. anyway the smell comes clearly from within and this doesn't speak for a clean airpath imho.

I had foam in mine and as I said, personally I had no burn off smell or anything. Maybe at times they've used different foam. I do agree with RB and will say that the flavor from Davinci was similar to the No2.

In that price range the only portable that comes close to high end vaporizer flavor like the cloud would be the Solo.

I'm not including vapes I don't have experience with. I mean, I've only been vaping for 5 years and have experience with over 30 pieces but FWIK. :D

I do always do a bit of a burn in to get rid of any contamination that may be there. Burn in then ISO then burn. I do know I don't want to hit a stinky vape either. Hope the sonic works out for ya mrweed

at the moment I really doubt it. would use some iso but the manual says I'm not allowed to clean with something else than the brush the've included. I assume that's because of the four tiny holes in the ceramic heating chamber. also there seems to be a bit of some glossy fluid on the bottom of the heating chamber. maybe that's what produces the smell. i don't know.

btw. the charger says it can take 100-240V! So i probably would have not needed the converter I'Ve bought for this. Anyway, I'm not sure if it really can take 220V. The manual has no info about this either.

Now that's scary ! Thanx for taking one for the Team!!!(manual be damned, i would still probably at least hit it with a cotton swab slightly damp with some ISO. glossy fluid not good.)

Yes very scary, and there was mention of paint covered glass???? maybe this should have a health warning.

this thread helps confirm how important vapes are that have contactable people behind them who understand that people vape for health reasons and do not cherish inhaling the cheapest massed produced vape making plastic exuding hot melty funk fumes of unknown origin.

as promised you can now find my honest review of the sonic vaporizer on my blog. i don't lie when i say that this is the most baddest (not ment in a positive way) product I've ever recieved for review purpose, measured by its benefit-cost ratio!

Idk mrweed, I iterally never noticed the smell on my unit.I was pretty excited for my first portable, but I can confidently say that if there was a smell, it was subtle enough that I never noticed it. Your case had to be pretty extreme if you couldn't even use it!! My only complaint is the actual vapor production. My roommate owns a Arizer Solo, the sonic doesn't rip anywhere near as hard : ( but at the same time its way more portable. If were just going somewhere and vaping in the car...we rock his solo, if were going somewhere and want to vape once we get there. I bring my sonic. I did have a problem with the mouthpiece coming loose from using it to open the top lid, soooo does anyone know of a better mouthpiece I can buy? That will fit on this unit?

hallo cody. can you do me a favor? please let your device run on the highest temperature setting for a couple of minutes (without herbs in it) and than smell on it and on the mouth piece. the odor it produces is terrible and i don't think it's mine only since the review by medicaljane.com pretty much says the same (but they also said that this smell just appears on the higher temp settings!)

if you still say there is no plastic smell/taste I probably have recieved a faulty device (but I'm definitely not the only one)

I'll be getting one of these soon and I'd like to do a video on it for any interested parties. Still not much out on this vape, I've noticed.
Got a Sonic today! First impressions are a little mixed, but positive overall. Fit and finish could be better, but the build quality seems solid. Looks easy to clean and load. Lightweight, pretty discreet. Heats up in no time at all. Amazing heat up time, actually I'll do an overview video soon and share it here. :)

Wow, this thread is very inactive but for good reason I suppose.

I just received a sonic for a review.
I'm going to have to agree with @mrweed.

I have had the sonic running at 428F for well over an hour to do a burn off and it's still off gassing like crazy. Does it ever stop!!!

The build quality seems a bit on the cheaper side, the unit is pretty much all plastic and too light.
The vent on the side gets "burn your hand hot" and it seems like an ass backwards cheaper knockoff of the DaVinci that will be a PITA to fill and empty. At least there is a cheap plastic brush hidden in the unit that can easily be lost...

I will say this. The battery is awesome on the sonic. I never charged it, I took it out of the box and started doing burn offs at 428F. It's been well over an hour and a half now (still off gassing) and the battery was only at 2 bars from the start.

Ok, while I was typing I went and got an ISO dipped Q-tip, held the unit upside down and swabbed the ceramic chamber while hot incase it has any type of oil in the chamber.
I got another Iso Q-tip and ran it all over the silicon and the off gassing subsided a bit....but its still there...:disgust:

The glossy fluid at the bottom of the chamber @mrweed spoke of is a bit unsettling. It looks like glue almost.
