Smoke VS vapor : couch locking

I've also noticed this same phenomenon with the "couch-lock"
Vaping is more effective and you end up with high cannabinoids levels of things like THC levels in the blood.
Also when vaping I think people tend to manage the dose better, taking a few hits rather than smoking for longer sessions and getting baked, which I find tends to happen if smoking joints.
Maybe this could be partly why vaping is less likely to induce the "couch-lock" experience?

I'm also sure strain makes a difference, and weed has changed a lot in the 20+ years or so I've been smoking it, I'm sure the stuff I had back when I was in Uni made me more sleepy than the stuff I smoke or vape now.

Hello couch lockers, yeah smoking is definitely more couch locking than vaping it, it's due to elements created by combustion, bads (ex benzene) and goods one ( ex thcv, cbc cbe), their synergy with others elements THC, CBD, terpenes, that it is atm not well studied. And this is only if we compare vape Vs pure weed smoke, if we add tobacco there is more interactions and elements.
There s a lot of additives in cigarette instead of nicotin, that are mainly used to make you dependant, and in theses addidtives you can find somes that awake you, and others more sedatives.. It s when you quit smoking that you realize the impact of that shit on your smelt, breathing, sleep etc.

As you're all seems good guys, I gonna tell you a technique to get couch locked with only vape : do a fast before, for the entire day eat nothing, before weed use vape hops to enhance Thc by its terpene synergy, and add a little of CBD flower in your weed bowl ( 75%THC flowers, 25 CBD flowers). Let me know if that work good :brow:

I wonder if you might not be finishing what's in your bowl. do you vape until it tastes like burnt popcorn? supposedly the more couch-lock cannabinoids are the ones that vaporize at the highest temperatures, so if you're stopping before it's done, that could explain what you're describing.

Most people don’t realize those high temp compounds are the very first ones lost to the cooling units and the water pipes.

Interestingly, the people often seeking those high temp effects are looking for giant hits cooled through water, which is actually contrary to delivering those effects. This is one of the leading causes of VAS.

I'm not particularly a high temp compound enjoyer. But do you know if those compounds would be similarly lost when doing dry hits, but through some sort of cooling stem that agitates vapor flow?

The plain straight glass stem from an Arizer Solo was found to strip about ~10%, anything fancier with better cooling ability will probably pull more. Possibly even more so in convection centric vaporizers which tend to demand more cooling.

It’s a complex issue, if you spread a session out into more hits, you’ll be “skimming the fat” from every inhalation. But trying to vape everything at once tends to demand more cooling, which is sort of inversely proportional to the goal.

Hop is part of a sedative plant used in beer. It cointain a kind of terpene that enhance the THC effect, like fresh mango.. Not really nice smelt, but it made vapor too.
I thought the mango thing was a myth, like orange juice and LSD. Never heard the hops thing.

From what I understand hops are terps.

I did the mango thing when I use to smoke, not sure I could feel much difference but did it anyway…. Refreshing at least

Hops are a distinct flowering plant related to cannabis with many of the same terpenes (and thus flavors and aromas).
Ah right that’s what I meant🤪. Thanks for clearing that up

BTW I do miss smoker couch lock, but for me it use to tend not to happen if I smoked everyday. Best thing I’ve found as replacement is making cbn brownies from 6 month plus sun/air degraded thc abv.

myrcene that’s the main shared terp

Try conduction Vapes or Hybrids. They make more couch lock than convection for me. Other had the same experience he told me.

Eat your ABV. That's where the couchlock lives.
This is the answer. On a fortnight long trip I was using my Pax 2 exclusively in the woods/swamp and couldn't bring it back smelly so I'd eat the AVB on a fresh maple leaf and swallow. I'd do this on long hikes and the one two punch 100% rivals smoking, with the upsides and downsides. Vaping alone does not, but most of the time that is a trade off for being able to make natty edibles every once in awhile.

I haven't done it in a while, but yeah AVB is where it's at. A friend of mine gave me some AVB brownies. This was back when I didn't vape and was full on smoking. I want to say he used the sous vide method. Anyways, those brownies are probably top 5 most potent edibles I've ever had. I've had my fair share of edible from the medical market as well. Where I live, you can get high-dosed edibles (It's not uncommon to see 1000-4000mg edibles). But yes, this is probably the closest I can get to a couch lock while not smoking.

I vape about 1:1:1 CBD:CBG:THC, on average, or try to. I save all my AVB, do a simmering and decanting method for about two hours (to get rid of the water soluble compounds left over, none of which I want), and then infuse in coconut oil. After it’s all mixed pretty good, I stick it in a freezer, let the oil solidify, and do a last water separation. Then add glycerin (sunflower based liquid), blend with a stick mixer, and pour it into molds.

Anyhow… two things about my method of making edibles (which are more than 2/3 not THC):

  1. I have a very high tolerance, and eating these in the morning (in my coffee in the morning) provides huge relaxation and “couch lock,” which is what I want with my neurological condition. Makes me less likely to have severe spasms that break me or things in the house…
  2. The only friends that are normal THC smokers and wanted to try my edibles: knocked the fuck out all damn day. “This wasn’t fun, I didn’t end up doing anything but sleeping!”

My theory is same as some of those above: since I end up simmering my AVB for about three-four hours total at ~100C, a lot of the THC and CBD are converted to CBN, CBDV, THCV, etc. Those compounds seem to have pretty great couch lock/slowing down the muscles effects. Anyhow, it doesn’t seem to primarily involve THC alone in my opinion. Vaping definitely is less couchlocky for me. Using concentrates in a banger is even LESS couchlocking, even with GG4-family rosin or resins (super high THC, nothing else going on, and my favorite terps). I usually have to chase THC dabs with good CBD dabs to not get waaaaay higher than I like (my ideal session is lots of couchlock and no high… or just a “body high”).

TLDR: Sorry for the disquisition. To the OP: yeah, vaping seems less couchlocking to me as well, but adding AVB edibles in the mix can take couch lock to whole new and previously unheard of levels.

My opinion or experiences, I believe it all depends on the vape your using too. There are some vapes that won't get you that 100% couch locking. Sometimes I feel vaping takes a bit longer to get couch locked but also to me depends on temps. When using say the Pinky or Cannabis hardware vapes, I can get pretty couch locked pretty quickly. Also, yes it also depends on the strains too. So when I use the Pinky at say temps at 550-575, it will take little longer for that couch lock. If I raise temps get more clouds say at 585-600, I can take 2 big puffs and on the 3rd, I'm couch locked no different than combustion. Though I think combustion we get the same results but with combustion we get it all at once like that 30 min rush. With vape I think the rush spreads out more unless you dial that temp up and really want to get cooked.

So for me, I think temp is what matters on how couch locked you get when vaping. We all can crank up our Pinky or Cannabis Hardware to where we can take 2 or 3 puffs to clear the bowl. All depends what you want and why to me vaping like others here have said is a great way to dial in what the desired effect you want.

IMHO,
it all depends in the terpz + your load
terpz... some terpenes like Limonene, Linalool will make the experience more uplifting
Myrcene will get you couch lock more often than Limonene for example

bigger loads will cause couch lock more often than microdosing but i think we all can agree about that...

Yeah, my last batch of infused coconut oil with ABV and old pressed rosin pucks completely bring my inner contemplative self to next level.

This makes me wonder if there might be another factor making difference. In those 3 methods (vaping, smoking and eating edibles), proportions of cannabinoids and terpenes vary a lot. Edibles, especially when made from ABV and rosin pucks, do not have a lot of terpenes and part of the THC already turned into CBN. I suppose that when smoking, as terpenes seem to be quit fragile, there is not a lot left either. Meanwhile, by vaping weed or concentrate, that's the way we get the highest level of those tasty molecules 😋 I suppose that high temp vaping destroy terpenes too?
