Smart phones....what do you have? What do you like?

I finally just got my first smart phone this past weekend, and it's a lot to learn, but I'm getting there. :)

I bought an HTC Inspire 4G, and so far I love it! :D I love having access to so many free apps too!

Right now I'm rocking a Samsung Captivate. My cousin has the Inspire and loves it :). Coming from an iPhone, there's a huge learning curve with Android. If you decide to keep the stock settings, then you should be alright. If you're adventurous, you can load a custom ROM and start changing fundamental software features. This is where things start getting hairy and a bit of technical know-how is imperative. Check out XDA forums for more info. Without exaggerating, it took me a good 2 months of intense reading and trial & error before I felt comfortable modifying my phone. You don't need to mess with your phone's software, but hundreds of people work on optimizing and changing things to unlock your phone's true potential. I'm deciding whether I want to "go to the dark side" and get the new iPhone when it comes out next month :/

BTW one gripe I have is battery life! I consider myself lucky if my phone can last a whole day on a single charge with light use. If I use my phone to surf the web or anything else, my phone's battery will be dead by late afternoon. YMMV, but the battery on my phone is no bueno.

I was a victim of the Samsung Fascinate "upgrade and fuck your phone up club" so Verizon offered me a choice of 4 diff brand new phones. The only 2 of interest to me were the 4G ones. The HTC Thunderbolt and the Samsung Droid Charge. I went with the Charge because it was a very similar layout to my Fascinate and it has an HDMI port, better battery life, and a ridiculous screen. It also came with a 32 gig micro sd card (my previous was a FULL 16 gig, which I got to keep too!)

LOVE this phone. I can plug it into my flatscreen and browse the internet or watch movies. Totally cool. I'm like a big kid when it comes to gadgets and smoking devices lol

Some cool apps are:

Ringdroid: take your mp3's and cut out whatever part of the song u want to make a ringtone
Google Earth: just awesome
I heart radio: best radio app IMO

There's even a couple weed leaf live wallpapers on the market!

JDSupreme,
I'm still running a 3gs. The interface is easy to use, and most of my products are apple. I would like to look into a new manufacturer however. . .

Haha yes my Captivate and the Fascinate are cousins in a very dysfunctional family of phones. I feel you on the "fuck up your phone club." Of all the positive attributes the phone has, Samsung did a terrible job in taking the proper precautions and testing/implementing everything before releasing the phone. I can't wait to upgrade soon...

The videos make yours look pretty nice,

Personally I have a hard time texting and using small screens for directions or browsing.

maybe when they make a 13" tablet I'll be happy

nice that it's an HTC - XDA's cooked ROM's really help when you get tired (as it starts to look old to you)
but loading ROM's and packages is about the only thing I remember enjoying about my old HTC Wizard.

I've got the HTC Aria, which suits me fine being of smaller form factor than many of the Android phones on the market. I've been using Cyanogen mod on it as long as I've had it, and I prefer it to HTC's own Sense UI.

wizzoh,
I have a Iphone 3G that kind of just came to me, and I loathe it. It's halfway decent once you jailbreak it and can use unsigned software, because Apple is completely Fascist about what can and can't be released on the app store. A proper droid puts the Iphone line completely to shame, simply by the merits of far more liberal policies, and in most cases superior processing power.

It's another Apple product made for people unwilling or unable or too set in their ways to properly learn the capabilities of their hardware. It's simple, for simple people. That's not what I want in my phone. If you just want to play angry birds and facebook, Apple phones are great, if you want to actually use your phone like the tiny, handy, surprisingly powerful pocket computer it is, then they're an awful choice.

I heard Apple signed an exclusive contract with Murdoch for all the news that gets delivered thru the iPhones - and i'm glad to hear someone else unhappy about how much control they excercise

I have an htc dezire z. (it's called something else in the usa i think?) uses android os. I like it. it's very handy.the only quirks I have noticed are the following:

- when texting sometimes it auto scrolls to the top, and you need to go back down to keep typing. (jsut going back and then back into that persons text will take you right back to the message box) this happens very rarely, but it does happen.

- when texting sometimes it defaults to all caps. again going back and then in will correct this.

- You can't have it set to vibrate and ring at the same time. one or the other only.

I have a Nokia N97 and so far I think this is the worst smartphone ever. Symbian runs like shit, I have an iPad and I love its smoothness, ad with jailbreak and some good app it's another planet. I think my next phone will be an apple one. I also had for a brief time my sister's HTC HD2 and i loved messin' with it, installing android dual-boot with win mobile, trying various cooked roms...then I got back on my freakin nokia brick....since I bought my N97 I only had to say bad things towards the "big" N, they've lost another customer.

iphone, i mostly use it as a phone and only a few apps that work fine without jailbreaking it (pandora, tapatalk, star walk, and a few that came with the phone). i like it, its not exactly perfect but nothing is...works for me. only complaint is not being able to mount the partition like a usb drive and just drag and drop photos or be able to use blue tooth. but since i use macs anyhow, iPhoto grabs em pretty quick...just a little gotcha, would be bigger if you dont have a mac perhaps.

I'm on my second Android phone now after drowning my Motorola Milestone and I absolutely love it. My current one is a Samsung Galaxy Tab which is sort of a crossover between a phone and a tablet. It may be to big for some, but once you give in and get yourself a man-purse it's not really a big deal anymore

Before that I've been using Windows and Symbian smarthphones for over a decade now. I started out with a seperate phone and a Psion Revo to accompany it, but I absolutely love this concept for a all-in-one device.

Also a Apple-hater btw. Love some of their products, but I'll never pay for anything that company produces for as long as I live.

Android user here. :D

I have the HTC Evo and I can't complain about my phone. I love it. I had a Blackberry before this and they're just not keeping up with the times. Their OS is primitive and bland. Plus my Evo gives me much longer battery life. Recommend Android over iPhone any day too.

VAPOLITICS!
Iphone 4 (had all generations): personal
Blackberry Storm (had all generations): professional
HTC Android 4G (had many generations): geekal benchmark LOL

Don't hit me too hard...but handsdown jailbreaked Iphone...
And yes have seen the Apple South Park episode and IMO it might be the best episode of this show...
In fact I'm not fan at all of South Park's humour in general...Looks like I'm a Simpson's geneeration guy!!! :/

I was a blackberry user for a long time...finally switched to an android this year. I must say I'm learning to love it...other than constantly wiping the touchscreen ROFL!!

I got the HTC Evo. I'm even learning to swype thankfully cuz I sucked at touchscreen typing. Any phone I've gotten in the last 5yrs I immediately purchase the Seido Extended life batteries. The Evo I did the same pronto and very thankful as I can drain that sucker quick if I use data heavily throughout the day. Those extended battys rock IMHO.

Thanks for all the replies! It seems like a lot of people like Android phones. I love mine, so far, but I am still learning everything. :)

iphone 4.

have had all generations of iphones.. they just work well for me. Althoguh im aware that the other phones do some things much better, I just like how simple it is.

only major downside is cracking the phone.. as I have done about a month ago. cracked the back glass.. easy fix though, its just hasnt bothered me enough to change it yet.

Couple weeks ago I picked up the HTC desire HD, really dig this phone (except the battery life), and its definitely a step up from my last phone, an LG Rumour

N900.

IMHO one of the best. Hardware keyboard, very powerful, runs Nokia's own linux flavor maemo, or countless other linux variety. Also android 2.3.5 is installable and almost fully functional on the device. Just needs call support and a few other things that are being worked out. You can even install desktop versions of ubuntu, fedora, win95 :o, etc. 32gb on-board and up to a 32gb microsd, very nice 5mp camera, firefox. Excellent media phone with tons of features. Oh yeah, and mostly everything for maemo is completely free and open source with a large development communtiy at maemo.org. Add android dual boot and you effectively get tons more possible apps.

If you are a phone nerd that likes to fiddle around with the os/software until you have the perfect phone, the n900 will keep you busy for a good while. The only drawback is a resistive touch screen, but coming from a capacitive android phone (behold 2) i have no issues with this and the resistive touch screen is much better than the older resistive touch screens on the n810/n800 tablets.

Just got the new MyTouch 4G Slide for T-Mobile. So far I like it. It's pretty snappy and the touch screen is quite responsive. The camera is also pretty darn good, but not as good as they make it out to be (most advanced camera on any smartphone). This is my first smartphone period so needless to say I've been quite pleased. I'll need to use it for a while longer before I can decide how much I really like it but so far I'm really liking it.

I have an iPhone 3GS. At the time I did some research and it was commonly viewed as the best phone for internet browsing.

The Droid X and HTC stuff looks nice...

But I have been pretty satisfied with the iPhone. I'm nerdy and I jailbroke it but I didn't really use a lot of extra apps, it was more cool just looking at different themes n such.

I'm due for an upgrade and I'll probably grab an iPhone 5. I'm all about simplicity and I use a few apps.

HippoRemote, Mint, GoodReader/Kindle, Leafly, Newegg.

You guys should get Leafly, it lists the cannabis strains and allows people to rank them and add descriptions. Quite a cool app for searching for new shit.

I have a white iPhone 4 and I love it. I previously owned a HTC Incredible which I loved at first but very quickly learned to love hating. The software was slow, laggy, glitchy and clunky.

The iPhone 4 feels fluid, natural, speedy, clean, efficient and quick. Gave me much more of what I wanted out of a pocket computer device. I would NEVER go back to android.

The only thing I miss is the Turn-by-Turn nav for free on Android -- helped me out a lot as a pizza delivery driver.
