you should offer a glove or oven mitt or something on your site. could call it a “Slug Glove” or something. basically an oven mitt. or even one of those “Ov Gloves” made of silicone. idk just spitballin here.
how are you all dialing in the pressure? or are you just clamping down on the vice as much as possible?
right this very moment I was using my Slug and thinking the same thing. It will be done.

Alright, so would one presume the heat is too much if the rosin is quite runny when running out of the slug? In the videos, I see more of a thick, honey-like consistency and look, whereas mine (even with different strains) are runny and dark. My 'glob', which runs down the parchment paper, would run right off if I didn't hold the paper up in a concave fashion...
Wish I had went with the original rather than the Deuce. Trying to get this thing figured out all the while using 2g+ each time can be frustrating. I did not find very good results by getting it primarily compressed and then adding heat...Seems it doesn't 'squish' it out NEAR as good. So, from my findings, a failed squish results in my grinding it up and then vaping or using for edibles...not 'wasted' but didn't turn it into rosin either lol

what about a slug with cartridge heaters and a small readout? youd need a controller of some sort, but it could be a pretty small package. just add vice!

Mine is the same style as what @almost there posted, just older and heavy duty. Probably going to get me a newer one as this one is a bitch to move around. it's pretty effen heavy lol
I still think the culinary torch is just too much heat. Going to get a Whip-it torch like @Nattybushdoctor uses and try to mimick his videos.

yall are using a drill press vice? and youre able to get it tight enough for good returns? i would have thought it would need to be much more heavy duty, but im sure you can get it pretty damn tight. do you mount those drill press vices to something?
If you think that your rosin is too dark or too runny then back off on the heat. In my videos I am at my lowest heat time when I press. What is your heat time? If you are going to compress the material a good portion first it is important to not compress too much.
4 inch drill press vice is what I use. I started on a much larger bench vise. The thing is, not much pressure is needed. Force is multiplied from vise and delivered through the plunger. Not sure how much, but with this style of compression TONS of force is not necessary like the pancake style presses.

just watched a video of a guy measuring the clamping force if his bench vise. he modified a hydraulic cylinder to fit in the jaws and put a nice Parker gauge on it. this was a pretty large/stout vice and after giving it everything he had and doing the calculations it came out to just at two tons.
when i was building my press i used a 5 ton hydraulic jack. and i remember others using 10 ton jacks.
do we know what the ideal pressure is for each slug? or a range?

Well, to be fair, how much material was being pressed on the 5 and 10 ton units? From what I've seen, the systems using jacks with that much power are usually intended for MUCH larger load sizes.
Just my uneducated .02...I'm pretty new to all of this myself.

the idea was if you wanted to use less heat you could increase pressure. so it didnt matter what sized plates were on the press. they just wanted maximum pressure capabilities.
i used my 5 ton press for 1-2 gram loads.

Hmmm, increasing pressure would naturally raise the temperature as well so I could see what you are saying. I guess with enough pressure, very little, if any, heat would be needed.
With the slug, I'm not sure any additional pressure, with the 2.2g load size in the Deuce, would matter. I believe it's bottoming the plunger out completely against the slug. Now perhaps you could load more than 2.2g to increase the internal pressure some but if you loaded too much it would probably squeeze outside of the cavity and therefore not press the entire load completely.
@Nattybushdoctor Have you had any experiments where you tried to load more than 2.2g?
ok very interesting. How much material can be pressed at once with the largest of the traditional pancake style rosin presses??? anyone know? The most I have found people squishing is an OZ maybe 2
You are spot on. Increasing flower material will only lead to flower pushing out the sides. The cavity end is designed to hold a specific amount.
